Hey folks :santa:
So when I finally get my car back this week, first priority is to change 2 tyres.
Currently there are
2 x Falken FK452 on the front (New in July)
On the rear
1 x Avon ZV3 and 1 x something im not sure, think it's a Pirelli! Anyway I obviously want to get those changed for 2 new ones as they are a bit worn ( I bought the wheels with those tyres on already 2nd hand)
The obvious choice reading this forum was to go for Michelin PS3's or Goodyear Eagle F1 Assym.
Having had a few quotes from tyre places, and realising I needed a mortgage for the PS3's I stumbled across another forum favourite, the VREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA, 2 for £235 fitted.
Anyway, in this situation, is it best to put those on the front, and move the Falken's to the rear?

I would leave the Falkens on the front.. and hope that they dont last too much longer (sh1te IMO)
Put the new tyres on the rear....then when the Falkens wear out change them for better tyres!

I would say that putting tyres on the back of a FWD car that give as much grip as a teflon coated frying pan a bit silly! :signLOL:

Unless he's tracking it mate or driving like a maniac Its gonna be fine. I dont remember these Falken Teflon tyres you mention anyway :booty:

I have some 'not so new' Conti 2's on the back of mine, plenty tread, just oldish rubber. They were no good on the front for getting the power, down but fine on the back :happy2:

:grin: I know some people dont like Falkens, I have used them in the past and they are deffo not the best etc, but reasonable all the same.

I have been led to believe that you not mess about with the grip on the rear axle on a FWD car. If you lose the grip on the rear axle, it will break away and promote oversteer.
If the front breaks away it will understeer, and you can modulate that with the loud pedal.
Best tyres on the Rear of a FWD car. I was told that ages ago on a Service driving course, by an advanced driving instructor (ex Royal Protection Driver blokey)

F.Y.I. I had 4x Goodyear Eag F1 Asy fitted last weekend and several places quoted £120 per tyre including fitting, balancing, valve and disposal. I went to Hi Q

I half thought that when I had my accident a couple of weeks ago whether or not the tyres were to blame... Not totally, obviously! But in terms of whether it could have helped having better tyres.
After hitting the brakes the car did slide and when I tried to steer out of it I *nearly* made it and it did leave me wondering whether;
a) If I had better than Falken FK452's on the front would it have helped (were they to blame in some way for not recovering etc)
or
b) If the 2 rear tyres were matching instead of 2 different makes, and indeed if they were 2 better tyres ie Goodyear or the Michelins etc would it have stopped it from happening.
It's all hindsight I guess! It did seem like it broke away.
I don't drive any tracks, most is country roads and motorways/dual carriageways, never blitz it round corners either!

i think it depends on your preference/driver skill. personally i'd rather correct oversteer than simply steer into a skid with understeer.

235 for 2 x VREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA seams very expensive, i brought 4 from mytyres.com i think it was for 77.35 each and fitting is about 12 quid a tyre they were 225/45/17s i think and i have to say they are miles better than my conti sport contacts 3's i had on before

These are for 225/40/R18.
Cheapest i've found any of the 3 brands (Vredstein, Michelin, Goodyear) were about £117, £130, £148 respectively.

Camskill have the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric's in a 225/40/18 for £109.40 each.

Recently got 2 (17") PS3's fitted for £230 :jumpmove:
What a tyre, even in these temperatures.
I didn't get them from there, but ATS Euromaster had a very good price for them online.
