Hi,
I have a late 07 edition 30 and recently to put it bluntly it feels like the steering has taken on a mind of its own. Say for instance at 70mph on the motorway the steering feels like it is wandering. The wheel alignment is fine as i have had it checked and there is no pulling issues as it would be felt on the steering wheel. Driving on a straight road i find myself having to correct the steering to maintain the car driving in a straight line. It feels like i do not have 100% control over the steering. I was thinking that there could be an issue with the steering rack although I hope not. I was hoping someone may have experienced a similiar problem and maybe steer me in the right direction....

tyres cause this on any car they might look alright but they can wear uneven. if you can swap the rear wheels to front and front to rear and see how you get on :happy2: or if you go on the simple 1st check tyre pressures???
if tracking is alright then there is not alot else it could be have joints being checked i.e like they would be on a MOT??

Worn out tyres or possibly a Worn road?? Doubt its the steering rack chap.

Mine is the same mate, I opened a thread about this a short while ago. Took the car to VW,........ nothing wrong with it apparantly. It does wander around quite a bit still which involves a fair bit of constant correction. I'm hoping after a tyre change it cures it (some of it anyway). I'm on Bridgestone's at the moment.

Which way does it wander left or right ?
I remember a similar thread like this years ago on ukmkivs.Turns out that most of our cars wandered to the left as a safety feature
Basically if you fall asleep at the wheel you would wander into a parked car or hard shoulder rather than into oncoming traffic.

my golf gti is doing this. It constantly wanders around the road following every slight change in camber both to the left and to the right. It does feel like there is a bit of steering play but it sailed through a recent MOT. Only other thing I can think of is it might just be alignment/camber/toe is out of spec, however I did have the tracking done when I fitted pilot sport 3's all round
anyone else got any ideas?
