Title: Timing in racing
Post by: Nasir on December 13, 2010, 11:04:03 am
Bit of a random question really lol, say if someone finishes 1.2 seconds behind you, how 'far' behind is that? Can someone put that into perspective? Is it cross the line and 1.2 seconds later that car passes? That doesn't seem that long.

Depends on speeds involved.

Pretty basic maths.

Eg:

10MPH = 4.47 metres/second. So someone finishing 1.2 seconds behind will be 5.36 metres behind them.
100MPH = 55.36 metres behind them...

Formula - time x distance

^^ You just need to know the lap length and time to get average speed!
