After a number of PMs with Carl I have moved my antenna and now got a better signal and less Regenburg syndrome :happy2:
Mine is now mounted at the furthest most point under the central air vent whn before it was at the furthest back point under the same vent. I now get 6or 7 out of 9 sats instead of 3 or 4 out of 9 sats.
What other places have you guys and girls put yours?
-
On the vent arm thing that moves up and down when you twiddle the knob.
-
On the Dash and i get 10/11 of 12 Sats :P

Fitting guide here. :happy2:

Normally 10/11 on mine.

I have used the first pic from the link above.
The red arrow shows where i pushed mine in between the 2 layers of the dash. There is a metal structure there, and it being magnetic, meant it didn't rattle or give and problems.

Mine sits on top of the metal structure;-

How many sats you guys getting and how long until Regensburg clears on start up from cold?
-
I get 10 or 11 satellites normally. I jumped in the car last weekend and for a few seconds the satnav thought it was in it's Motherland but it only took a few seconds to realise it was actually somewhere else. I would say it took less than 10 seconds for it to untwist it's undergarments.

Looks quite nice actually, wonder if we get a forum discount for all the free adverts we've been giving

Ok getting annoyed now, got 5/6 sats this morning and after 8 mins I was still according to the car in Regensburg :fighting: No idea how long it would have taken to find itself as I got to work and couldn't sit in the car all morning waiting for the car to arrive.
So the F/W is 2760, antenna is in a similar location to where other (see above), what else can it be??
Also wondering why the MyGTI guide two antennas?
-
Never had Regensberg syndrome, mine sits above the metal beam as all the rest, only time the unit has ever had problems locating was when I first installed the unit and it took it awhile to figure out I wasn't in Tewkesbury (clearly where the unit was removed from a car)
DOnt think the my-gti one does have two gps antennas, I imagine the other cable goes to either video input device or as he is an AUS some form of different radio antenna is it Cirrus in the USA???
-
There are 2 antennas on the MY GTI site;-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs337%2FRobGTIPhotos%2Fvolkswagen_golf_jetta_mk_v_gps_antenna_installation_dash_002-300x225.jpg&hash=f3bc11b9d600ece04204e73bf0d2b1bb5ec92da1)
I'll try moving to that position but I'm not convinced that will drastically change things.
-
I think that will probably be a Sirius satelite radio puck

I could be wrong though, but I dont think a second gps receiver would provide any benefit, especially so closely placed to the other.
-
That makes sense. Maybe I'll have to go to the extreme of putting my antenna on the outside of the car as well :rolleye:
-
Rob you could try and place the antenna in the top of the screen or if you don't like the thought of looking at the little square puk then take the wire to the rear of the car and place it in the top corner of the rear screen??
If its got a direct view of the sats then it should be better than something between the puk and the sats.
Cheers
Darren

In my work van that has factory fitted sat nav the gps antenna is stuck inside the windscreen above the rear view mirror (not sure why Iv got a rear view mirror as I can't see out the back!!).
When i had the screen replaced due to a stray scaffold pole the guy who replaced it said the screen was a special heat reflective type and the gps has to go in that particular place because that part of the screen is not coated and therefore would'nt interfere with the signal.
Do the early GTI's have heat reflective screens?
Oh and my gps antenna in the golf is just under the top tray and I get 10/11 out of 12 :happy2:
