Title: Laser Blue GTI, now caged ready for some track action
Post by: Obese on December 14, 2010, 10:31:40 pm
hi im new here, been lurking for a little while and it seems to be a nice forum!

Anyway after a couple of years of wanting one iv finally bit the bullet and bought a mk5 gti.
A few things have changed so i don't have massive amounts of time to complete the my mk2 20vt project to a standard im happy with so im going to have a true cool daily and play as i go.

These are what i currently looks like, private plate comming off as its not mine.

Currently has

turbo back miltek system
autotec uprated fuel pump
neuspeed inducton kit
forge recirculation valve
Revo stage 2

276bhp with 302 torques and it flipping flies allthough anything feels fast after driving a van daily for the past 18 months.

plans are to sort the stance which will probably entail airide and a set of 19's but hope to have it as an ever evolving daily toy!

That looks very tidy mate! Nice to see another laser blue on here. I bet it sounds as quick too with the milltek and neuspeed fitted! Have you got res or non res system? I've been you tubing sound clips but laptop speakers don't help me!  :happy2:

Looks excellent  :happy2: One of my favourite colours.

What do u think to the Neuspeed Induction kit?
Title: Re: Laser Blue GTI
Post by: Obese on December 16, 2010, 06:55:10 pm
Cheers guys im so happy with it just got the itch to start playing more and only owned it for 5 days!

The miltek is a resonated system so its nice and quiet at all times.

the neuspeed induction kit is nicely made and fits a treat and seems to do the job but couldn't say if it worked better than any of the others as iv not got anything to compare it too.

Im luckey to find the laser blue as it was my first choice, it was the only one out there in my budget and as a bonus it allready had the mods that i would have done allready.

Have a new set of wheels sitting ready and waiting to go on and hopfully going to be looking into an airlift air ride setup, i know its not everyone cup of tea but it will allow me to do what i want with the car :happy2:

Really i didn't know that its a strange one.

Not overly keen on all the black trim on the bumpers and skirts so im going to sort that out early spring hopefully!

funny i was gonnna say the only things on a red and laser blue is,.... they need to be colour coded to look a bit more "gti" like IMO.....(as he runs and hides) but i do lurve this colour.
theres a guy lcal to me(old boy) who has his laser blue coded with sunroof and stunning audi splits on it and it looks the dogs- he always flashes his lights as he drives me, cheeky old timer!!

niiiice car mate- subd for the air ride pics

I do, it just looks plain when colour coded or more like an R32.  I was told that the reason they stopped doing Laser Blue was because it is a bugger to paint match the rest of the car when bits required fixing / replacing.

Really, its already had a few touch ups but going to get them redone, one of those things you get what you pay for and if your not happy take it back until you are.

Thats also the precise reason ill never own a silver car again as it never quite lays the same and drives me nuts!

Title: Re: Laser Blue GTI

:popcornsoda: don't you just love a picture of shiny new bits makes me want some ha good choice on the r32 rear!! Same as above what exhaust you going for???
Title: Re: Laser Blue GTI
Post by: Obese on January 13, 2011, 11:40:02 pm
The rear bumper is going to have the reflectors deleted but still have the groove for them, slightly narrowed numberplate recess and then have the towing eye and exhaust cutouts smoothed.

Im then going to dismantle the rear backbox and remove the 2 outlets to take a single 3" diesel style tip so it wont really be seen.

Should look quite good, hopefully get some ed30/r32 skirts and colour code them and an ed30 splitter and it should look fairly good.

Its going to get out of hand this one

Its the only thing im not happy about, no matter what i do i cant get it sitting correctly and iv not had time to play with it anymore, unfortunately i can see it staying too long.

I was actually admiring your blueflame system the other day and looks to be the perfect solution im guessing its a custom jobbie??

Yes the Blueflame back box is so much better than the Milltek R32 style one, i dont think they spent much time developing it because it is not going to be a big seller. Were as the Blueflame has a tiny back box which makes the design simple. Not sure what the new blueflame one is like, but i spent the day at there old factory and the spent all day getting it just right. My full system might be up for sale in the summer i will give you a pm before posting it up if you like.  :happy2:

215/35/19

not the best for getting the power down but look good for the moment

thanks for that, do you get any sort of rubbing? with the above tyre specs
Title: Re: Laser Blue GTI
Post by: Obese on May 07, 2011, 06:24:01 pm
Well my wings have the lops folded back and i have trimmed the arch liner to it dosent catch and thats with an 8.5 wide wheel et 45 on the front and it et35 on the rear but i have added some camber so the wheel fully tucks inside the arch, but it does run fairly low on coils :happy2:

there is no rubbing but thats more down to getting the correct wheel offset to start with
Title: Re: Laser Blue GTI
Post by: M44NTU-3.2 on May 07, 2011, 06:35:26 pm
im going to be going for ET 45 ALL ROUND 8.5 wheel

and its prob going be lowered on springs rear 20 fron 30 mm

so do you think i should use 215 35 19 tyres

i dont want to lower too much as my car is used with fam in back, kid and the mrs

thanks!

After seeing a few on here i thought i would treat the car to a new blueflame de-cat system with r32 tails, mainly because it flows alot better and looks better on the car too :happy2:

Its a fair bit noisier than the milltek resonated system but not too boomy so its not overly intrusive inside the car

I think things are going to change a little for next year so im going to have a few bits up for sale so if anyone is interested in any bits let me know and ill keep in in mind once they come off the car in October!

Wheels Rotiform MIA 19x8.5 et 35 and 45 with 215/35 falkens with lots of tread

Interior, front are rear seats and potentially headlining etc

S3 front brake setup 345mm disc and a perfect upgrade for any mk5 platform car

K04 Turbo conversion, including injectors and any other relevant parts

Blueflame 3" decat downpipe

Forge tfsi catch tank

Thats it for now but im sure there will be more, and its quite easy to see what direction the car is heading  :happy2:
Title: Re: Laser Blue GTI

Made a decision that the car is going up for sale, i will do a proper for sale ad once i get back from the alps. If it sells it sells and if it dosent i will keep it im not going to loose sleep.

Reason being is i just fancy GT30ing an s3 or something simular but if not ill just have to GT30 this :happy2:

If there is any intrest, just give me a shout. It will be for sale in the exact spec that its in at the min!

Yeah they do look a bit like ET!

some of my favourite seats of all time, i have had a pair before in black from a gt3 rs but couldnt find any for love nor money. I initially intended to retrim these but when i got my hands on them the oem goodness is just too good to get rid of.

will make alot more sense once i have built my half cage and the interior is finished :happy2:

I think you could get away with the colour if you did the entire interior in complementary colours but it would take some pulling off.  Or cover the whole dash in cardboard.  :innocent:

I personally would be changing the colour.  :happy2:

I know exactly what you mean!, im not a massive fan of mega trimmed interiors either so thats not an option!

My mind changes every day with how and what im going to do with the interior.

Just struggling to come to terms with getting rid of all the original markings on the seats :signLOL:

As rear seats go they were a bit of a pain in the arse to get out but not too bad really. a few bolts and belt to get out the way and dont be too scared with them!

Nope they are 19" rotiform mia and yes i need spacers having the knock on affect of loosing my wing gap so i now need to get some camber adjustable top mounts. nothing is ever simple

The calipers need a refurb, the laquer has cracked over the whole caliper and looks awful up close!

Massive thanks to Si Sweetland (e38 forum) for sorting these top mounts out, these aren't commonly available to the general public and work with both types of spring (oem style or traditional coilover style) and allows you to add an traditional 2.5 degrees camber  :happy2:

this gets me round my wing clearance issue as i have to add a 5mm spacer to clear my new brakes and allows me to continue running the car nice and low

then i have been messing around with a few other bits too

i also have a set of these wheels, not sure if to run them as a stop gap, and i dont suppose anyone knows what they originate from as i dont know! all i know is that they are 19s et41 i think they are 9'wide and weigh a poop load

How hard was removing the steering wheel?

Also how much was the tb pipe?

Thanks

Steering wheel is easy when you know how, just turn the wheel 90degrees each way and i will expose a hole that you just pop the airbag clips off of each side and a big splined bilt and thats about it

bsh throttle pipe was £140 on my doorstep

cheers i know what you mean, its a bit fancy but still very functional :happy2:

Going to keep my eyes open for an s3 engine to build up with pistons/rods and finally a gt30 as it would be rude not to

also need to find another set of wheels to enjoy the car on that i dont have to worry about so much!

Cheers mike, there wasn't anything on the market that took my fancy or i wanted to shell out that much money for especially as i have built a few cages in the past so i bit the bullet and made my own

On a side note the forge catch can that was fitted to my car is now redundant now i have the integrated engineering cam cover so that will be up for sale, ill do a separate add once i have some pics  :happy2:

I've missed the bit that explains about the intake pipe on the right of the engine, nice swept curve into the filter area.

Is it a hybrid between an itg and something else?

The tyres are 235/40/18 ns2r with an 8x18 et 45 team dynamics 1.2.

I know the tyres arnt quite 888 standard but at 1/2 the price and not a bad review i thought they were worth a go!!

I know that feeling mate, had my last major build for nearly 7 years, kinda drags you through the mill deciding whether to carry on or get rid.

Not even a year into my GTI and I'm well lubed up on the slippery mod slope... been reading up on haldex and forged internals, and I must stop!

ah wicked, I'm still so happy how its turned out, was a little unsure when I started out that it could meet expectations with never building a full cage before just doing a few rear show cages. as for my trade I am a fabricator/mechanic/restorer so I coiuld do anything from a simple service on a car to restoring a citroen hy van to welding up and reparing a horse box. so basically I am pretty versatile

yeah 7 years is way too long, I started a mk1 16vt project in my early 20s and got 3.5 years in and who knows how many thousands and had a pile of parts to show so lost interest, find it easier to concentrate on doing one aspect of the car and keeps the car off the road for shorter periods
Title: Re: Laser Blue GTI
Post by: AJP on December 26, 2015, 07:50:20 pm
Not cheap to do a 16vt though. Considered it for my ACE engine Audi Coupe, then changed my mind to do a 20vt swap, then figured it'd take the same money again to get the brakes and chassis up to scratch for that power, then decided it wasn't worth it.

I like the fact the mk5 is quite nippy with just a remap and the rest of the car handles it. Unless you cook the brakes! (TTRS fronts are priorty...)
