Hi All
Trying to figure if my Mk5 is broken... I was having a look at the options via the highline, and I noticed that the "mirror down" function was turned off. I guessed this would tilt down the mirror when in reverse.
I set the mirror switch to the left (passenger) mirror, and indeed when selecting reverse (it's a DSG), the mirror drops down. However, when I select drive and move off, the mirror stays pointing down unless I move the mirror switch away from the left position. I'm guessing this isn't how it's supposed to work (I would expect the mirror to return to the normal position when leaving reverse gear) - am i wrong, or does it need a reset / fixing?
TIA
Si

Your correct, when you go out of reverse gear it should angle back upwards again. With mine, it does not do it immediately, I have to drive over a certain speed (maybe 10mph), and then it will return to the upright position.
-
You do have move forwards subsequently at about 10-15mph before the mirror moves back to the 'normal' position.
-
Cheers all - indeed you're right. I didn't go fast enough before, so thought it was broken.
-
I thought exactly the same thing when I first got mine. Great feature, I can park very accurately on the passenger side... shame it’s not an option on the drivers side.
-
is this a function that is only available with h/line?
i had this function on my old 330 and miss it!
-
Also is this not only available on the 2007 onwards models?
I thought I read that somewhere?

You need to have the optional rear parking sensors or the lux pack for the tilting passenger mirror functionality.
-
cheers for that, I wont be having this function then!

Ah ha...I also thought this...question answered, cheers fella's :happy2:

I take it this cant be retro fitted?

anything can be retro fitted if you have the money and time, oh and maybe skill too
-
yep, true. there will probably be a control module needed, for parking sensors. if you fit factory parking sensors, its possible it would work, because you have the sensor installed for the car to know its in reverse. this is when the mirror will go down
-
I dont have factory fit parking sensors, got them done @ my local dealers,so the answer will probably be no
-
im not sure you need parking sensors for this option, as i thought it was standard on early Gti's ?

Correct my 05 plate GTI had this feature and didn't have parking sensors.
On my ED30 it came as part of the Lux Pack I believe.
-
well im going to look into retrofitting this! ;)
-
Excellent keep us posted please JPC :happy2:

I wish you good luck.

Interesting as I have an 05 but don't have this. But then I don't have the highline to activate it either....
All the hardware should already be there in any GTi... the wipers (and rear reversing lights!) are activated when reverse is selected so we have a sensor, it would just be a software tweak to get the mirrors to dip in reverse surely?
-
Hmm mine does not do it either, nor does the hire car either. They both have parking sensors but no Highline. Does the switch mirror have to be moved over to the left mirror or should it do it anyway?
Would be nice and useful to have that ability.
-
On a pre MY2007 car, even if you have the lux pack, reversing sensors and highline MFD, you can't enable this function via software.
-
I have the lux pack but no parking sensors, really want to know if i have this function, How do i check?

Set the interior mirror switch to L then reverse the car. If present, the passenger mirror should tilt downwards.
-
Thanks gotta go and try it now.
-
any luck?
-
no didnt work, Dont know if it has a different controller or if it can be coded in.
-
i've been looking into it a bit more and it seems its goin to be a tough one. Probably just easier to do it manually
-
Seems to be really hit and miss on what cars have this feature. My 05 has parking sensors I think it has the lux pack as well but no mirror function.
Would be nice to have as well, saves me having to do it manually when I want to avoid the kerb.
-
i think the thing that is imperative to this feature working is memory seats. the car needs a memory of where the mirror was before it moves, so it knows where to put it back.
-
Thats odd as my old 54 GTI had the mirror down function but no memory seats or rear parking sesnors ? :chicken:
Make sure the mirror switch is on the left wing mirror and it should go down when reverse is engaged.
On my ED.30 it stopped working, it required to be reprogrammed by the dealer to tell it what to do. It still persisted in the end the dealer changed both wing mirror motors.
-
^i think you just got it on the very early Gti's ?, did you spec it on the ED30 ?

I didn't spec the Car Shaun ,i got it from VW MK stock, but it had the puddle lights in the door mirrors and folding mirrors option, if that helps ? it had the eletric lumbar too.

My, MY2006 does not have this function....I have lux pack, reversing sensors and highline MFD. Can it be made live via VAGCOM?
-
My '06 doesn't have this either and I have the lux pack and highline and im certain there is no option for it in any of the menus. Would be very helpfull if it could be activated though?!?
-
Sorry, 1st post and replying to an old thread and coulnt see another for it....
I have a 2005 MK5 GTI and have the heated seats and rear parking sensors and the mirror down doesnt work either. Looked in the MFA and there is no option there for mirror down and thought this was odd. Could this be fixed by a software update or have I missed something? TIA
