It takes my rns about 10/15 minutes of every journey before it realises where iam, this is obviously a problem when I'm trying to navigate somewhere! Is this the same for everybody? If not what can I do??
-
does it think your in Germany? If it is then its a known problem I believe it only affects A rev units running later version firmware, where the firmware isn't saving the last known location (where the satellites were in the sky) so it has to go through a long tracking procedure of all possible satellites before it can recognise its location. I believe some people on vwnavi (Josi) are or have come up with firmware revisions that solve the issue.

Hi thanks for the reply. No it doesn't think I'm in Germany, it's strange because it's usually only a few miles away from my actual location, I could be one side of town but it thinks I'm at the other! Then all of a sudden it'll change to where iam. It's really annoying though because if I'm navigating somewhere it's telling me where to go from where it thinks iam rather than where I actually are.

hmm, ok sounds odd is it just when the unit has fully powered down or every time? And is it always the same location or random? Also is it somewhere that you've been or go. If no one comes up with an answer then might be worth asking on vw navi.
-
It's everytime, once it finally finds where iam it stays with me then. It's so frustrating, I wondered whether resetting it would work? But then I'll lose all info/songs etc??
-
Do you know what version it is, that sort of info could help as well as firmware you are running. As I said in the first post the navs view of the sky is saved each time it shuts down so that it can quickly re-confirm its where it thinks it is when you start it back up, so if its saving the wrong data or if its using some old save point across town then thats why it takes awhile to re-confirm the current location.
So rather than resetting the whole unit a newer or different firmware would be a better bet and these if they are an upgrade type wont wipe any of your data. I guess this was a retro fit unit? and have you ever updated the firmware yourself before?

It's a b version and I'm only running 1100 firmware as I have an old canbus. Might this be to do with it?
-
Where is your GPS antenna ?
-
Is the B designation based on the product code sticker or the software number via the secret menu? Up until Wednesday I was running a B with 1100 software with the visual fader and bottom of screen volume display and didnt have issue with GPS location on start up. So I am a bit baffled as I have only ever heard of REV A units having issues.
I have just upgraded to 1300 software which has been modified for older gateways and currently have no battery drain issues (but only been two days) could be worth trying a newer firmware to see if it solves the issue or asking on vwnavi or one of the RNS experts like carl or darren to see if they have any ideas.
Sorry :ashamed:

What secret menu??? :rolleye:
It was Darren who fitted it for me actually amongst other things. The antenna is located just under the vents on the dash.
Am I right in thinking if I buy a new canbus gateway I can upgrade to the newest firmware without any issues?

How many satelites is the unit actually picking up (you can get this from the split screen mode). If it's only a few, it might just be that the navigation aerial dongle is on it's way out ?
-
I'll check the satellites! :happy2:
