Hey folks!
To those of you with heated seats, how long does it take for the seats to warm up?
My leather ones take about, 5 minutes on the highest setting(5) before they get warmed up, is that about right? I know the cloth ones tend to heat faster due to the material.
Just wondered, more of a comparison really!
-
The ones in my Pirelli seemed to heat up very quickly when I drove it last week and it was only on number 2!
:sad1: Havent been able to drive it since!!
-
Yeah, my leather heaters also take about 4-5 minutes before I start feeling the full effect.
Andrew
-
Yep about 5 minutes for mine as well. Then i have to turn them off after ten mins before i melt.

x2
And toasted balls happens at about 10mins :signLOL:
-
about 3 or 4 minutes
-
As above, about five minutes. Honestly can't tolerate level 5 for too long as it becomes very uncomfortable. Even 4 is very warm for me. 1 and 2 are barely noticeable so I use 3. If I need the heated seats (which I do in this weather!).
-
can you please confirm - with the heated seats do you simply roll the dial from 1-5 and they heat? regardless of the actual heater settings? or do you heater(s) need to be on as well?
Sounds silly I know only got the car today still working out the setting.
-
My missus think's it's funny to sneak it on at 5 in the height of Summer, she pretends to turn the stereo up then waits for me to squeal. :fighting2:
-
mines about 5 mins too, as my journey to work takes about 6 ish mins i just start to feel the warmth then have to get into another cold car with leather and no heated seats :sad1:

Have you not actually sat in your car yet? They were one of the first things I fiddled with once I'd bought the car and drove it home.

 I used to do exactly that to every person new to my car. It was fun to watch them squirm! Got bored of it and stopped doing it until recently.
-
I put it on 5 when I leave work in the evening, and the drive home is about 20-25 mins or so, and the other day I managed to go the whole way home with it still on 5.
... I think my coat was taking most of the heat though!!! Otherwise I may have had to turn it off
-
.......About 30 seconds....
I have them wired directly to the alternator, thats right is'nt it??

Bloody hell Lee, is that through leather or cloth ?
If it's through cloth, then it's about the same time as my wife Polo takes (with cloth upholstery). If it's through leather, that's the quickest I've ever heard of ?
-
Mine take about 1 min as I have Cloth :happy2: heated seats as Standard Spec :P
-
Had mine set at 2 yesterday when i picked it up & ''yes'' warm up very quick.
-
Mine are very quick and start getting toasty within 1-2 mins, but that's on ED30 seats with cloth inners..
I never use to think heated seats were worth the extra cost when mates had them on some of their cars.. I can now safely say that I would have them everytime (if they're an option), especially after this winter.. :scared:
-
Here here Ron.... i'm so glad i bought my car in sept before this cold weather hit us!

........same here.

I have the leather and only seems to take a couple on mins to warm up... I always feel guilty for whoever is in the back lol...

My mate did this to me aswell, was 25 degrees outside and the seats were on 5, just hits you all of a sudden haha!
-
Not long, a few minutes. Cloth btw.
-
I was suprised how quickly they heated up, had to dial it down after a few minutes.

x3 , mine heat up really quick (cloth ed30) , not really something i considered mandatory but now Ive had it Id miss it on another car :happy2:
-
wouldnt mind a heated steering wheel. nothing worse than when it feels like a block of ice
-
^ = Driving gloves Sy, jolly ho chaps!
My heated Interlagos seats take at least 4 minutes to warm up then as already mentioned, they come on like coals simmering behind your back all of a sudden. Once they're hot, they go straight off in my car and that's usually only ever on setting 3. I've never gone higher!

Ditto ^^^ Mine take no more than 2 minutes... very surprised how quick the warm up..
Level 5 is unbearable lol :scared:
-
Mine take around 3-4 mins when set to 5, then I have to turn down to 3 in order to keep myself on the seat
I have leathers btw. An optional extra worth every penny IMO. Didn't have them in my last car, E46 coupe which had leathers too and it was like sitting on ice! :scared:
-
Ahh, for me it's number 5 all the way baby - I wanna BURRRRN! Haha, yeah man, with this weather, the 15 minute drive to work means my engine doesn't even get to 45'c, so crap heating  So heated seats coming on within 3 mins does me just nicely :pomppomp:
:xmaspresent:

 I was messing around obviously!!! They take about 2 mins to heat up on 5, this is for leather.
And I hav'nt wired them to directly to the alternator either!!!
-
I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to the cold and like to be warm and cosy. However, 2-3 is the most I can bear on my heated seats. Sometimes it goes up to 4 when it's really cold but gets turned down once they reach temperature.
They warm up pretty quick, I just wish the rest of the car was as quick!
On my old car with leather seats I regularly had it turned up to 5 because leather is thicker than the cloth so it didn't actually feel that hot.
-
Bringing up a kind of old thread, but didn't want to start a new one...
I've got heated seats in mine (cloth), the passenger side works fine, but for some reason the drivers one has stopped working now??
It worked when I first got the car (about 3 days ago), but now the drivers side has stopped working completely
-
Have you checked the plug is connected? It's under the seat, if its driver side, then move the seat back, then there will be a black plastic panel, pull it off, and the wires are under there;
Yellow = Airbag connector.
Black = Seat occupant sensor.
Big plug = Heated seat wiring.
They run off the same fuse so I doubt it's that, although worth checking, alternatively could be the control unit of the seat itself? (Little box under the seat!) You can't see it unless you take the seat out and turn it upside down though!
-
I haven't checked anything yet, completely new to MK 5's. Thanks for the information though.
I will look at it tomorrow. Is there any chance it could be the heating element itself?
-
Potentially, but doubtful as im sure there are 2 elements, one for the lower back part of the seat, the other for the base of the seat.
Give the connector a try first, be careful, don't pull the airbag plug out else you'll get a fault light on the dash and need someone with VCDS to clear it for you.
I hope it's just a loose connection mate.
-
oooooooooooooh no...............not heated seats :rolleye:
-
I usually crack it straight up to 5, within 2mins it feels like its burnt a hole in my trousers! I spend the rest of the journey trying to cool my arse down! :booty:
Gotta love it in the winter months though... :jumpmove:
