After some advice on how to get the following sorted on my MK5 GTi (55 Plate)
1. After getting 2 warning lights (EPC and Engine) on my dash after a long drive in the snow at the weekend, I took my car to the local garage who hooked it up and printed off a report.
There where 2 issues, the first was an issue with the voltage being too low which I was told might be resolved if I replace the battery and the second was that the EPC Warning light was caused by a fault in teh Software and I would need to get the software upgraded by a VW Dealer.
I am just interested if anyone else has had this issue and if replacing the battery resolved the issue and an idea of the cost of getting the software flashed. I was even thinking about flashing it myself I believe you can get kits off ebay.

sounds like the common `check sum error` and the ecu just needs an update. some dealers may not charge but if they do i think its around 60 quid ish.
i would`nt recommend messing with the ecu yourself if you have no experience etc

Could you recommend anywhere that may do this for free, as I have just paid £40 for someone to tell me that this needs doing and in November I paid out £600 in a Service, I really am on a budget now to get all the outstanding issues resolved before I Sell it.

if you post your location someone may be able to recommend a good dealership in your area who might do it for free :happy2: does the car have a full VW service history as that might help you get it done for no charge?
