I have just orderer the centre armrest........just had a thought, what do I do about the centre between the arm rest and the gear shift?
Do I now need another part? and please don't tell me it's all one? (centre, gear surround etc.)
Thank you

If you want to replace it with the sliding cover you'll need another part from VW, it's the only one that doesn't come as part of the retrofit kit.

Part number: 1K0 862 531 A UBN
Make sure the interior code matches the associated part number before ordering, the above P/N is for a GTI (interior code RZ).

Ok...so I can just remove (unbolt) the rubbish cup holder and replace this on its own....? is a sliding cover for anything specific? or just a storage compartment?
:surprised: How many tones (interior) plastic are there? not sure if I have the right colour arm rest :(

It's basically a storage compartment with a sliding cover, aesthetically its far more pleasing but not vital (in my opinion).
Getting it out is a bit of a job and a half, if i was you and you're not installing the cooling duct for the arm rest.... leave it.
I did mine and it too a fair bit of time, the entire central column has to come away from the dash to get at the forward bolt attaching it to the column. This guide should shed some light on how to do it:

Would like the cooling duct - but you say it's a real nightmare? do the seats need to come out?
Thats a BRILLIANT link - thanks you.
I have MK5 2004.....GT TDI.........
Does this look complete to you? and colour wise?

Looks like its all there apart from the aditional ducting linking the dash to the armrest. If you want it, do it. There's no point feeling disapointed in 6 months time and having to rip it out again to do it.
If your near the East Midland's and need a hand fitting it give me a shout.
Luke.

Not far chap...Tamworth ish. Can you PM some details?
Are you ex-dealer or something? or just VERY in the know lol
Have you done all the work/mods on the link?
-
Nah mate, I just like to know what I'm doing before I start ripping my car apart, that way when something goes a cropper I'm probably more inclined to where've I've messed up.... confidence inspiring I know.
I've only done the armrest retrofit with regards to the interior.
As for the ducting for the dash you need to get the following: 1K0 819 633
I live in Ripley, Derbyshire. If you want any more details then get in touch.

ETKA peeps/anyone.
Just found out my arm rest maybe also chilled as well.........
Does this mean it will require additional ducting or electrics?
Seperate to the standard heater venting pipes?

Johnny your right its for a/c armrest you see the little bit coming of the ducting you have?? that goes into the armrest and when the a/c is on cold you get that cool air into the armrest...
The only thing you may need is the rubber mat for the inside of the armrest the L shaped bit and there is a cover that goes over the inside of the armrest the big cut out bit inside the cover you may already have that with that armrest.

...and the VW Badged Bottle Opener! :happy2: Or does that come with the sliding covered storage bin when you order it?
