Title: DaBoy3000's GT Tdi 140+ *March 2012 loads of new pics/updates on page 4*
Post by: daboy3000 on December 30, 2010, 11:21:48 am
Hi Folks

I've been hanging around a few Golf forums for a bit and this one seems to have the best community with the most helpful members, so I thought I would introduce myself and show off my new ride.

I used to be a member of Boxa.net and Seatcupra.net, I like to be as helpful as possible on the forums, but I have a lot to learn about the mk5's so bare with me.

Previous cars include - in no particular order and missing out the bangers!!

Fiesta XR2
Fiesta XR2i
BMW 325 E30
MK1 Golf Clipper
MK1 Golf GTi
MK2 Golf GTi 8v
Golf MK4 GTi 2.0, 1.8T, TDi 130bhp, Bora TDi 130bhp (all company cars when I used to be a VW salesman)
Corrado 16V
Seat Ibiza GTi
Seat Leon FR+ TDi (Remapped to 192bhp)
Skoda Superb TDi 130bhp
Porsche Boxster 2.5 (an amazing car but was costing me around £1000 a month to run, now sold)

and now.....

MK5 GT TDi 140bhp

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5009%2F5351854176_75cdd5b23e_z.jpg&hash=7304ab0e2bbaf8a63489c1a844faaa36fef03d3b)

I have lots planned for this car including new bumpers, springs, exhaust , wheels and a remap.

So far I have replaced the OEM stereo with an Alpine X100 IDA and put a GT badge on the steering wheel.  Replacing the stereo was a lot more work than I'm used to, I needed a fascia plate, aerial booster cable, aerial adaptor, wiring loom and had to run a ignition live to the fuse box, but it was well worth it.  If anyone needs help doing this I will be happy to answer any questions.

I got some gti side skirts and bumper which are being painted this week, I'm bidding on a gti exhaust at the moment and then a remap will be done by AMD hopefully later this month.

That will do for a while at least

I know can't wait, I had my Leon FR done and achieved 192bhp with enough torque to spin the earth, after that and my Porsche the Golf just feels a bit gutless at the mo!

how was the boxter costing a £1000 a month!!!  :surprised:

I bought it in May 2010 and soon after it needed a new clutch & flywheel, new brakes all round, 2 new tyres, header tank, ignition switch, link arm, starter motor and a few other bits + fuel, tax, mot and insurance. I did know that some of this needed doing when I bought it but with money the way it is these days I thought it was unfair to my family to keep sinking money into it.

I loved my Leon FR+ TDi so I'm hoping to recreate a VW version.

I finally got it back from the workshop and although it cost a bit more than I thought it would I am very happy with the results, It was well worth getting all the grain smoothed out of the skirts, rear bumper and front splitter.

I will take some better pics once its had a clean and the sun comes out!

Got my oldskool golf ball gear knob on now, does feel a little odd in the hand, i guess i'm just not used to having a small knob in my hand

Also fitted LED front indicators and have my armrest to put in this weekend.

Have booked it in with AMD for the remap!!!   I must stop spending now

Sorry to hijack your thread. I'm having the same issue with the vibration at idle and the wobble at 1k revs. You haven't discovered what it is by any chance. Love the car by the way, really transformed since you first had it. Great colour, but I would say that :)

Got my armrest installed too, not very hard, just a little time consuming.

Now, any ideas where the best place to get a power cable from the battery into the cabin?

I have the same engine mate, did you have any warning signs before it went pop?
Title: Re: DaBoy3000's Oil Burner
Post by: daboy3000 on February 18, 2011, 02:27:43 pm
Not really, maybe a wurring noise when I was crusing on the Mway and AMD said the turbo was a little noisey.  It went into limp mode first but I guess they pushed it till it popped.  I have heard its quite common, might be worth taking out a tesco warranty or similar, £300 warranty would be better than a £1500 bill!!

AMD phoned me today, said the turbo was done and the remap was done but a white van smashed the mirror and drove off when they were test driving it so now AMD will be fitting a new mirror case and glass.  I'm must be jinxed or the car is!! :rolleye:

Hey,

I've been directed to your sale post from another forum.  I absolutely love this car.  I can't PM you or reply to that thread - However, I am interested in your car, assuming it's still for sale.  I just need to sell my SDi ( :scared:) (On sale right now).  Could you take a few pics of the interior - absolutely loving this car.

Hi Zet

Yeah the car is still for sale, I've only stuck it on a couple of forums as I'm in no hurry to sell it.  In fact after a lovely 260 mile trip this weekend I'm in two minds and it only cost me £20 in fuel!!

I will get some pics up at the weekend if I don't get time before that.

Post by: zet on June 21, 2011, 06:01:35 pm
wow, £20 on diesel?  :surprised: Honestly, if I buy that car I intend on flooring it now and again.  I own an sdi 57 plate, and I still do 80-90mph ...250miles a week and it costs me £50 on diesel (full tank).  Anyways, your car is sooo lovely.  I'm hoping my SDI gets at least £5,800-£6,000 on ebay auction (ends friday).  If it does I'll be looking to buy this weekend/next week.  If not - feck, I'm stuck with it.  'webuyyourcar' are offering me £5k for it...so i know its worth around 5,800-6,000.

I have a flat bum steering wheel in there now but you are right, it's a bit dull and grey. If I had the cash I would put either some leathers in there or some tartan gti seats but my money has to go in to the house and family right now.

Any suggestions for cheapish mods to make it look more snazzy would be very welcome.  I am very tempted to paint the interior strips and centre console in gloss black but it's a lot of work to make it look pro.

not really too sure mate. i have leather in mine but suffer from a similar problem, everything in there is black. black dashboard, seats, carpets, mats, headlining....everything!

gloss black would be nice, but defo agree. its a lot of work to do it to get it right.i painted the interior of my Coupe (Ford Stardust silver) and turned out pretty well, but it took a lot of work

Car looks beaut man! Are they the eos alloys? I thought about doing this for my golf but I'm thinking R32 alloys for me

Is your bumper genuine parts? How long did it take?

Title: Re: DaBoy3000's Oil Burner
Post by: daboy3000 on October 07, 2011, 08:36:58 am
Cheers mate.

I believe they are from the EOS and Passat Coupe they are called Chicago Lightweight,  would have normally come in two tone with dark grey inside and polished faces but I think they were refurbed(badly) at some point, would love to get them back to the original look.  I do like the R32 wheels too.

The bumper is from Xparts in Germany, it's a very good copy but not quite as well made as OEM and it comes with the lower spoiler/splitter moulded onto the bumper.

How long did it take to do what buddy?

Change the bumper over. Was thinking of putting a GT sport grill on mine woth gti lowers but i dont know how much work is involved. Theres a couple of threads about it but they make it look a bit TOO easy! The other thing that gets me is changing the crash pad bit so the tow eyes match up! Haha

should just get on a do it

It took 3 weeks!!

....well, about an hour really, first fitting didn't take long but it wasn't fitting perfectly, but well enough to stay on.  a week or so after the car went to the garage for the paintwork and a few other bits and while it was there they trimmed the bumper a little to get it to fit flush.

3 weeks after the bumper arrived I got my car back all painted up and looking lovely.

Very similar to vRS Neptunes, I am refurbing my vRS Zeniths currently and may try them out on the Golf.

It's been a while since I've updated this page, there have been a few changes with the exterior and interior but I'm waiting until I have finished refurbing my wheels before I get the pics up.

I did have a go at vinyl wrapping though, my first attempt and although it looks perfect in the pic its could be a bit better.  The only issue i'm having is it's reflecting off the windscreen so I might have to go with piano black and I will probably paint it.  I think in the long run I will get a better and long lasting finish.

So over the last few months the Gti interior has gone in, the rear spoiler was all painted up and fitted and I have had THS decat downpipe fitted which makes the car respond a touch better and feels like it has a bit more power.

I refurbed the Chicago's over the winter and i'm very happy with the results, as you can see from the pics they look like new.  The only thing I would have done better is more lacquer, but I was worried that if I put too much on then I wouldn't get the bolts through the holes.

Over the next few weeks I hope to eliminate a few annoying rattles, get a wheel bearing replaced and get the front wheels balanced.  I also have a badgeless grill on the way but i'm not sure if I'm going to like it due to the cut out on the bonnet.

Good to meet you today Ben, some cracking little touches to your motor. I really like the badging and the Chicago wheels in particular.  :happy2:

Cheers, I do love the colour of your car, it's not as common as us Reflex Silver and Diamond Black folk, when you have it detailed it's going to really sparkle.  Look forward to seeing what you have done at the next meet.

Cheers Ben, the sun totally changes the colour. I'm looking forward to getting it looking mint, but the next time you see it, the only changes will be under the bonnet!

Yeah, really makes a difference to the look and the comfort, the old GT interior was just a bit too plain.

Not done much recently, the rain doesn't help too.

Did change to GTi lights though, i'm very pleased with how much better they look.

I would email you but you didn't leave an email address and I can't PM you.  Get your post count up a bit then PM.  Don't want to put phone numbers or email addresses on the internet.  :happy2:

Oh and yes, I might still sell it.
