Title: Steering wheel removal
Post by: Lyons on December 31, 2010, 12:22:49 pm
Any good detailed guides on removing the steering wheel in a Mk5 online?

A mate removed mine in a Bora I once had and it appeared easy, but the airbag bit put the fear in me.

Cheers for that.

Any idea what size the spline bit is to remove the wheel?

M12 indeed! Steering wheels has been of and back on, with new wiper stalk fitted.

Sadly I connected the battery again with the wheel off to check that the wipers were working, and now the airbag light is on.

Will a 15minute battery pull fix it, or is it a job for vagcom?

Remember to mark the position of the steering wheel relative to the steering column shaft before removing the wheel.

Please also note that you should only thighten the bolt that holds the wheel in place up to 5 times. Replace it the sixth time.
