Title: 30-130mph day Sunday 20th March!
Post by: Shins on January 07, 2011, 03:55:11 pm
Thanks again to RAF Marham, I’m very pleased to confirm the MLR's 30-130 event will be held on Sunday 20th March 2011.

For those of you who haven't heard of 30-130, it's probably the best opportunity for you to understand the REAL performance of your car! This isn't a standing start event which relies on good reaction times and puts necessary stress on your clutch and drivetrain, but a rolling start from below 30mph after which you have approx 1.5miles of straight ultra smooth tarmac to pass 130mph - or carry on for a top speed run.

There's no running order so you can run when you want (subject to the queue - which we get through as quickly as possible!)  The average number of timed runs is approx 5 or 6, but we've seen some drivers do 15+!!  If you just want to do a run without a VBox (or have your own) you can bypass the queue and go straight out, but only data from the MLR's calibrated VBoxes being used on the day will be used in the results.

The current 30-130 record is held by RossW in his Evo6 in a time of 5.84s

Please read ALL the following info carefully, paying particular attention to the Security Clearance requirements further below

Main Event Details:
Event Timetable:

30-130:

*** VERY IMPORTANT! SECURITY CLEARANCE! ***

ALL DRIVERS, SPECTATORS & RESERVES MUST HAVE SECURITY CLEARANCE BEFORE BEING ALLOWED ON SITE

I MUST HAVE EVERYONE’S DETAILS BY 28th February 2011 to give the RAF Police enough time to get your security clearance before the day

I need to record ALL names & details even if you have been security cleared for previous events, so please send me your info even if you have been to 30-130 before. If you miss this deadline you will forfeit your place

Please PM or email me with the following details ASAP for security vetting:  ADDITIONAL INFO:

Corner Weighting:
We will have our corner weights at the event as usual, so if you want to corner weigh your car you can do so anytime during the day.  ‘Someone’ will be managing the service and direct you onto the ramps and the scales.  Readings will be recorded and can be taken with and without the driver

Marshals & Emergency Cover:
The event will be fully marshalled and include Medical and Fire Cover

Helmets:
Helmets must be worn by all occupants - drivers and front seat passengers

Fire Extinguishers:
All cars must have a fire extinguisher fitted - preferably in an easy to reach place, eg: in front of the passenger seat. This will be checked on the day and any cars without extinguishers will not be allowed to run

Noise Limit:
Noise from motorsport has now become an issue for RAF Marham. Although it’s understood that running a single car at 30-130 is not the same as running numerous cars together at a trackday, noise monitoring will take place on the day if required but they will be as lenient as possible. We are not allowed unsilenced exhaust systems or “excessively noisy” cars. The static noise limit is 105dBA (measured at ½ metre, 45 deg, ¾ revs)

Rear Spoilers:
For reasons of safety, cars must retain their rear spoilers and blade, unless fitted with a carbon bootlid or similar which does not allow for a rear spoiler

Vortex Generators and Trim:
Debris of ANY type on the runway is the single biggest concern at RAF Marham.  Aftermarket VGs and other trim have a tendency to come off when travelling at over 130mph, so all VGs will need to be taped front and back to ensure they stay on the car.  If it’s not done when you come to collect your VBox we will do it for you!

Towing Eyes:
Please ensure you have a towing eye fitted and/or accessible on the day in case you need to be recovered.  The RAF recovery crew are experienced and will treat your car like their own, but they have to be able to return your car to the paddock, so please make their life easy

Passengers:
Only front seat passengers are allowed and must be 16 years old or over. There is no charge for passengers, but they must complete an indemnity form and wear a wristband

Refreshments:
Food & drink (burgers, bacon rolls, coffee etc) will be managed by the RAF who'll be based in the MLR ’30-130 paddock’

Litter:
It is ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE that no litter or cigarette ends are dropped anywhere other than a bin. Failure to observe this simple rule seriously jeopardises us being invited back, so please use the bins provided (or your pockets!)

Spectators:
All spectators must come with drivers already booked in as we are only allowed a maximum of 60 cars onsite during the day. You need to be security cleared to be allowed on site, so please send me your details (see above) for Security clearance - and bring PHOTO ID on the day

Volunteers:
We need a handful of people to help with putting the V-Boxes in the cars and changing over memory cards throughout the day, so please contact me or Mechell if you’re interested in helping

Video Cameras:
All video cameras must be securely mounted internally via suction mount or bolted to a rollcage. No hand held cameras are allowed. All footage must be for personal use only – eg:  not uploaded to YouTube, forums etc

Photography:
Due to the extremely sensitive nature of the venue, cameras are only permitted for personal use, eg: photos cannot be posted on forum or websites.  No professional or commercial photography is allowed

Rides:
30-130 wouldn’t happen without the help of the RAF volunteers who marshal and support the event – all of whom are petrolheads and would sell their sister (or brother) for the chance to own the cars attending the day. If you’re happy to give them a ride we will give you a sticker for your windscreen so the guys know they can jump in with you sometime during the day.  Thanks in advance from me - it's good to be able to give something back :smthumbup

Last but not least.....
A huge thankyou to Paul, George and the RAF Marham Station Commander and staff who continue to make this event possible. :adore:

Bookings:
Places can be booked by calling Mechell direct on 08451 25 26 23
Price per car / driver: £99
Additional drivers in the same car: £59

Reserves:
If places sell out a reserve list will be started. All reserves should still PM me their details for security vetting before 19th February in case you are able to get a place

Cancellations:
Please tell me if you cannot attend for any reason. Please DO NOT post on the Forum offering your place to someone else as we need to manage the entry list for security purposes, and offer your place to the first person on the reserve list.   Please be aware of the MLR's Cancellation Policy

OOoooooooooooh!

I'd have loved to have done this if I still had the ED30 and the nitrous. It was made for 30-130

0-122 mph in 12.4 seconds with a Racelogic box, so would have been nice to do a 30-130. :sad1:

I want details of the day Pov :happy2:

Would my Aston be allowed on given its 6 litre V12 chucking out 510bhp?
It's noisy though!

Not only will it not be the noisest id very much might not end up being the quickest either.  All sorts of manically hyper modified cars rock up to these events.

Cant make it this year Shins, I've done this a couple of times on the RAF runway, some mental cars there, last years quickest was 8.6 sec  :surprised: I think I did 19 sec.

On one run I was sat behind a Ferrari F40, I can still hear it now  :happy2:

Shhh... don't give the game away! The looks on people's faces as the sleeper's middle age'd man spec dented heap destroys them is what's best about it.

It's running better than it ever has been at the moment, certainly much quicker than last time I had it out to play at Inters, I can see it surprising a few.

If so you done anything else to the car?

Hope you get as good a day as last year not much head winds so would expect the likes of Ben (especially with the DSG) getting into 15-16's! :happy2:

I'll have a go next year at this.  My car wont be built in time for it, but id love to see how it does it, although this is more of a brute power test as a pose to power to weight.  Still good for a bench mark though.  especially if i can switch the map from perfomance to stock settings

It's a bit of both really to be fair Sy. Yeah 100-130 is more about brute power, but the 30-100 is in favour of the power/weight. You'd be suprised at what some the VAG's will compete against..

Even when i get mine stage 2 it wont have anywhere near the power to weight of a stage 2+ ed30.  ill realistically be looking at 180-187Hp/ton at best.  So not slow by any means but small fry in comparison.  Still impressive for a 1.4 if REVO are correct in their estimations though

I'll be all over that when there are uprated clutch packs available for the 7Spd DSG, but until then ill be semi restrained.  260hp would mean over 200hp/ton. now that would be very nice indeed :surprised:  especially considering the fact they can hit sub 13.5 on the 1/4 with just a stage 1 and 215-220hp

Yeah, when stripped out, and on R888's.  They are definately quick upto three digits when put in a light shell (1100-1200kgs) like the Ibiza.. Not sure what the estate will do up the 1/4, but it will be very good to watch..

Comeon then lets read these excuses!

To be fair, there's loads of previous threads over the last few years where Rod has tried in vain to get some of the MK2 lads to attend these events and they never show... But when they think that a 12.0 sec 0-100 time is quick for a JMS-440 kitted RS, it's probably best they didn't...  :signLOL:
At least the Mk1 lads are game..  :happy2:

Are the ST lads game this year Rod? At least one or 2 of them have shown up in the past and looks like some of the VXR lot are coming this year too..

Bought the hatch in the end.  believe it or not the estate is lighter and 1mph faster.  think about the stage 2+ 1/4 miles.  pretty much all the sub 13 second cars are all on R888s with LSD, DSG, and stripped out.  ie Hurdy, DJ horice, OwenLC jabbalad etc etc. so they are only a second quicker.  not bad considering the potential 140Hp difference in power :surprised:

A second quicker, but around 15mph faster as well, which on the road would be huge! Not taking anything away from the little 1.4 as it's a proper impressive bit of kit, but it's forte is off the mark and 0-60 IMO..

fair point, thats why it'll suffer @ the 30-130.  be keen to see what the little TSIs can mange with stage 2 and another 15Hp.  Id love to be right up alongside the FRS boys as this s the sort of times they would be putting in.

I just want to go up there in my SKODA 1.4 and annoy people with these quick cars lol

They all talk about coming but never show, we'll wait and see, expecting a 500+bhp MK1 along but still unsure whether he's doing it or not, I'm not able to make it this year which has p*ssed me off to say the least but that's life I guess!

Hang on, we have an SCC tuned (385bhp I think) MK2 FRS coming, so that'll be interesting!

To be honest all these false claims should be finished now as Ford have given out the latest CJ updates, so cars should now match all the quotes given! Not sure what stage of tune this is but like I said, should make for an interesting day!

Yeah a group of mk2 focus rs owners came down to the local hunting ground and the cupra showed em that the 2.0tfsi k04 is still the . The rs where a claimed 385bhp! Wasnt a massive difference but then  the cupra is manual unlike the quickest eddies.

URGENT! 30-130 WEEKEND DATE CHANGED

I've just been informed by RAF Marham that the MOD now have an "urgent operational requirement" to use the Marham airfield on the 19th & 20th March. This means the 30-130 dates cannot go ahead over this weekend, but the Station has offered us the airfield/runway to run the event over the previous weekend of 12/13th March;

Saturday 12th March: MLR and GTROC
Sunday 13th March: 22B.com, AudiSRS, Ford RS etc

The Station understands this is far from ideal and have expressed their extreme apologies but regrettably it is unavoidable, and as RAF Marham is an operational airbase this is always a possibility whenever this event runs.

Please can any Mk5GolfGti members who are booked into Sunday 20th March contact me immediately by calling 08451 25 26 23 or email - and let me know if you can or cannot run on the new date. If you can you don't need to do anything else, but if not I will refund your booking fee and remove your name from the spreadsheet.

Can I just add my apologies for any problems this has caused, but I'm sure you'll all understand the restrictions RAF Marham are under and appreciate the overwhelming fact that they continue to allow us to use their operational airfield!

Thanks,

Chell

be interested to see how your 380hp handles the rest of the 340hp-360hp stage 2+ cars
Loads of stage 2+ cars on here mate http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,16977.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,16977.0.html)

Would have thought the stage 2+ Ed30s will get the legs on you for this.  They normally beat the S3s on the 1/4 mile, so once you remove the off the mark grip advantage by doing 30-130mph id imagine they should do well.

Whats the spec on your car?

To be fair Sy, an equivlent spec S3 should  be slightly quicker or very close over the 1/4 compared to a ED30, due to the advantage off the line. The Ed30's carry a lot more terminal speed (between 3-7mph difference) over the finish and will be catching very quickly, but it would be very close IMO..
Only problem is, there hasn't been a lot of Stage 2+ S3's that have run at Pod, especially S-Tronic ones. But I would expect a 12.6-12.8 from a good Stage 2+ S-Tronic S3 with launch control etc..
But like you say, 30-130 will be a different kettle of fish and should easily favour the Ed30. All down to me then (being the only Golf going)  :scared:  :signLOL: But who knows against this S3  :scared:

get yourself across to AMDs rollers.  £70 run on them will gain you 40Hp easily then your off and running   what sort of times are you expecting anyways?

be interested to know what a stock ed30 can do it in so we can compare your stage 2+ to it.

Well Cohiba did a 17. something last year in his APR Stage 2+ manual ED30, so i'm hoping for around 15 secs give or take. All will depend on the conditions really (headwind etc)..
No idea what a standard one would do TBH..   But would be good to know like you say..

Yeah its piddly, and yet for some reason the crazy german tuners think its adequate for stage 1

I also have a dilemma in which gear to start in. 1st gear goes up to 40mph but 2nd gear might be too long to get a decent paced pull from at 30! The k1 had the perfect gearing for 30 mph pulls, just stick it in 3rd and ride the torque!

Try doing what some of the Evo boys do Jas and do a standing start. That way you will have some decent momentum when starting from 30mph..

Na, he was to busy doing some practise runs and trying to keep his SWMBO amused before he actually got some timed runs in.. :signLOL:
Certainly didn't let us down though and with a 14.2 was only a second off a R35 GTR, which when you consider it's a manual too is fooking impressive in my eyes..  :congrats:

Good day had by all though and considering the Golf was one of the lowest powered cars there, it certainly held it's head above water IMO..   Quickest FWD of the day too..  :booty:  :signLOL:
Only did the one top speed run and with my milk bottle tops having done nearly 80k, I wasn't arsed about playing russian roulette with the braking zone when showing 170 on the clock  :surprised:, so left it at that..
I forgot my fooking camera again, so no pics yet, but i'll drag some across when the other lads get theirs up..

The VXR didn't get the big blower on in time, but did have a hybrid K06 and was chucking out 340+ apparently, so went well. The 500bhp RS didn't show as he got snowed in up in Scotland, he was gutted and I don't blame him..  :sad1:

wow, and the top speed from the measuring equip was 155, thats some difference lol.  Strange that you were quicker than the 2 S3's (#27/23) on the 30-130, yet they beat your top speed.  i thought you would have been a fair few mph faster being lighter.  Or were they mk1 big turbo'd?
Title: Re: 30-130mph day Sunday 20th March!
Post by: Sunglasses Ron on March 13, 2011, 07:06:21 pm
They were both Stage 2+ mate.. As I said, I could of probably squeezed a few more mph out if I had done a few more runs and braked even later. But my brakes are standard don't forget and I wasn't really arsed about the top speed anyway tbh Sy (hence the reason for just doing the one run). The event is more about acceleration to me, so I left the 2 S3's to battle it out between them as they were mates and nice lads too.  :happy2:
Besides, lightness has nothing to do with top speed and I would fully expect a S3 in the same tune to match a Ed30 top end. The Ed30 would just get there quicker..  :booty: :signLOL:

I knew the speedo on mine over reads at speed (like most), but at 50mph, it was only 0.3mph out..

the normal stage 2 FRS is running 380hp isnt it?  Either way you beat it though   did you have a chat with him?

It was a very good day, very enjoyable being able to legally speed!

Will deffo go back next year, will probably be dipping into the 11's by then!

I took some logs ofmy runs too and what they really highlighted to me was how sh*t my tiny oem intercooler is. Sitting in queue my intake temps were 50 degrees, at 60mph, 50 degrees, at 150mph, 50 degrees, even when going around the bend off throttle the intake temps where still sitting in the mid 40's wtf!

Forge Intercooler is going on wednesday, hopefully I will see a drastic improvement and then I can knock up the timing too!

I shortly left after you ben, did one more run in the wet and it was spinning up so called it a day after that!

A rs4 also ended up in the grass run off area after we left, couldnt scrub off the speed quickly enough from 191mph!

It's number 28 and 29 (2 drivers) which is 4th and 5th from the bottom..   He said it had uprated injectors, intake, map etc and was running around 400 brake.. If so, it's a woeful time really as the ST with 100bhp less was quicker..  :signLOL:

It wasn't a Cossie Dom, it was some sort of horrendous Mk1 Sierra drag car.. Don't think it did a 30-130 time for some reason..

Hi guys,

I was at this 30-130 day earlier in the year and i wanted to come over and chat but never got the chance because i was always out.
My car was quick on the day for us, managed to set a new record for the Focus RS MK1 boys of 18.7 but was still fa off your pace.

Anyway ive been looking at these since the day and hopefully will be getting one when mine ha sold, just wanted to know what mods you have mate.

I would have PM'd you but my post count isnt high enough so far, ill get posting as i could do with asking you a few questions, Loverly car btw mate    :happy2:

Chris.

this is where the guys with the TTRS's normally hang out.  Loads of TT RS's kicking about there, with more than few about to go big turbo
