Hey Everyone, finally picked up my ED30 today after putting down my deposit just before the new year
Drove the car 120 miles back home, and what can I say they are fantastic cars, comfy, great looking and handles great :jumpmove:
Quick question to other owners...is it just me or as soon as you turn the car on does it sound a little like a derv for a minute :scared: I didnt really notice until someone commented on it. Looks like the Milltek will be purchased sooner rather than later
Also on start up it sounds like there is a wierd squeek/ something that sounds like a cricket to the left side of my engine bay, and it seems to quietern down after the cars warm, any ideas??? maybe something to do with the belt or pulleys. You carnt hear it from inside the car. will post pics when its been cleaned :driver:

Hello and welcome. Don't worry about the noises, completely normal. You'll love it more and more me thinks, get it mapped and the grin on your face will be tattooed forever
Oh and :worthless:

Welcome to the site..think other owners have mentioned the start up noise..via noise could be a pulley squeaking

Great buy, what colour did you get?
If it sounds like there is a trapped bird in the engine bay when cold, its probably the cam belt tensioner. A number of people on here, myself included had the belt & tensioner replaced under warranty.

Oh and :worthless:
it'll look like nearly every other ed30 on here :P

Its Tornado Red :happy2:
yeah it does sound like a trapped bird :scared: If I need to get it done under warrenty even though i only got the car today :fighting:
can I get it done at any vw dealership? As im in the Midlands and I had the car from way down south.

Yes, as tagnut has said, thats the cambelt tensioner that needs replacing, under warranty hopefully , so free cambelt when it gets done, so you can strike that off the future maintance list at 40,000 miles (or 4 years) is normally quite long.
Noise normally more apparent when starting from cold, and lessens when warm.
You have great taste, one of the nicest colours imo :happy2:

Mine has done it for ruddy ages and have asked VW to look at it on numerous occasions and still the same. :fighting: Just had the starter motor looked at yesterday and greased as that started to squeek on start up. That's mint now, but will have to check in the morning whether the bord is still there..

If its still under its three year warranty any VW dealer will do it. Don't know about used approved warranties though.....
Get them to change the water pump while they are at it too........Its easy for them to do, when they have got all the other bits off for the cam belt change.

Hi and welcome.
As above, put up some pics!

Yep pop to VW, book it in for 2 days so they can start it up cold the next day (or book it for o e day and drop it off the night before) so they can identify the noise, if it is the tensionser say you'd like to replace the cambelt and waterpump too you would have to pay for it but only at parts price and you wouldn't have to pay any labour, they wouldn't be able to do the belt and pump under warranty as there might not be anything wrong with it and when they send the old parts back the claim would get rejected,
Book it in to be safe
