Title: Steering wheel question
Post by: Gtiain on January 10, 2011, 11:11:00 am
Is it possible to replace the plastic cover at the front (the bit with the vw badge) without having to mess about with the airbag and vcds? I'd like to replace mine as it's really tatty and scratched. God knows what the previous owner was doing with it!

I 'think' it the airbag is all one piece including the cover you mention.

Even if you could change the cover you'd have to remove the airbag itself from the wheel. Not difficult but if not done properly you could trigger an airbag fault which would need to be reset with VCDS.  :happy2:

Actually I'd say you can't change it, thinking about it that is the bit the airbag breaks through when it goes off so I'd say its def all one piece.

So that means I'd have to replace the airbag aswell. So if I put a wanted advert up asking for an airbag it will come with the plastic cover? How much are we talking? Cheers  :happy2:

Just found this on ebay...

Looks like you can replace it.
