Does anyone know if the audi R8 oil cap fits onto the golf gti with no mods? if you do have to modify it does anyone know how to i.e a guide please.
Thanks in advance
-
Yes it does. One was for sale a while back on here. :happy2:

^ I think you might find the standard R8 cap needs modifying to sit at the right angle ?

Copied from another site
Cheers guys!
I've dug mine out and reminded myself how I did it!
Basically turn the cap upside down. There is a very small line running around it (maybe hald a mm or so). You will need to carefully prise this open - I used a flat head screw-driver and did leave some little marks, but once on the car they can not be seen. Prise it open all the way round and then the cap will split into two pieces.
This is where you brain will start to heat up!! There are a number of plastic bits that stick out which ensure you the unit will only click back together one way - basically you will have to figure out at what angle you need to click it together to get the fitting you want then cut some new little gaps for the plastic bit to sit flush in (ignore how I'm saying this, it's obvious when you get the unit open!!!) I used a pair of clipper to cut a few new little gaps and hey presto all done - the unit is simply clicked backed together and job done!
I've took some photos to cover what I've said - when you do this it is pretty simple but it did take me some time to figure out how to open the unit up.
When you lining it on the the oil hole in the block to get the finish you want make sure you cover the hole when not using it to stop muck, dust etc getting in there.

thanks guys you are great :drinking:

Very easy to do, I have had one for a while.
The coolant cap fits too, much more expensive and I've not had the balls to try and modify it
-
On an R8 ok,glass cover & you can see the engine etc but on Golf ?
-
Little off topic. I have this on my GTI, and it fitted without any mods, but it did go straight onto the engine bay without modding)as I don't have the 'neck' that some have on here, does anyone have the part number for the neck part I have mentioned so that the cover sits flush with the cap.

Al,
Just looked and the 'neck' is a part of the rocker cover. Not available on its own.
Part for a new cover - 06F 103 469K about £90!

.............point taken but it's an open forum & now having found out the price of £90.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!,don't think i would bother for a part you only see when checking oil/coolant & screen wash.

The price of £90 aint for the oil cap, its for a cover that al said is missing!
