Title: Feeler - Possible Group Buy on Intakes
Post by: SteveP on February 22, 2009, 10:34:46 pm
Evening All,

I have been researching intakes for the Mk5 (specifically the K04 based cars) over the last few weeks and during this have spoken with the very helpful guys at Bulletproof Speed Hardware in the USA.

Some of you may be familiar with their "True seal" Intake for the K03 based cars but at present (mainly due to them being US based) they don't have a version for the K04.

However they may be able to offer a K04 version (initially as a custom run) if we can get enough interest, this would be supplied via a UK based tuning company.

This is in the early stages of discussion so isn't guaranteed to happen and no prices have been confirmed.

Details of their existing K03 intake can be found here: -

http://www.bshspeedshop.com/store/product.php?productid=16958&cat=0&page=1

Here's a quick pic of the K03 intake as well: -

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bshspeedshop.com%2Fstore%2Fimages%2FP%2FFull%2520Intake%25201TN.jpg&hash=4e76e9908f59e8c88956aa30623f3a7bb54cf927)

Let us know if you might be interested or have any questions/comments

Thanks,

SteveP  :happy2:

....

An important question imo, is available through which UK based company?

you should do a K03 and K04 GB, you would get maximum interest and hopefully then maximum discount

I'm possibly interested in a BSH K03 version - The crazy guys across the pond rate BSH products very highly - But I'm also interested what ITG may bring out when it's ready.

depending on cost KO3 may be of interest too.   :happy2:

Do you have to take off the engine cover for this to fit or have they dont it so you can see the system clearly??

Yes, you have to lose the engine cover or do major modifications to it (cutting) for the intake to fit.

Could you tell me what the difference is between the K03 and K04 intake?

Does the BSH intake need modifying to fit the OEM diverter valve relocation on the ED30s?

The reason I am asking is because I am planning to do a K04 conversion on my my K03 so would like to know if the bung in the BSH intake is compatible with the OEM diverter valve relocation or is it only compatible with BSH's own diverter valve relocation?

I suspect you will have to email Phil at BSH directly as the oem k04 car is not available in the US.

KRL - You may also find some helpful info if you visit GOLFMKV forum across the pond : -

Be prepared for the fact that the forum Moderators over there are far more lax about language etc and that if someone tells you your car is sick they are paying you a compliment!

1x KO4 for me!

These BSH ones are rated on VWVortex and also golfmkv.com very highly!

They use metal pipework instead of the EVOMS plastic stuff.

Are there any details as to the difference's between the k03 version and k04?
Title: Re: Feeler - Possible Group Buy on Intakes
Post by: KRL on March 18, 2009, 08:53:55 pm
AFAIK The only diffeence will be for the size inlet going to the DV.  BSH currently has its own solution for the DV relocation and their inlet size is 1.5 inches.  However the OEM setup in the K04 turbos needs a 1 inch inlet.

Therefore I guess BSH mght be making an intake with a 1 inch inlet for the OEM K04 setup or they might supply a silicone reducer so the intake will work with OEM relocation hardware.

Apparently with the bonnet shut, the sound should be less noticable inside the cabin

^^ Is one of the BSH's "plus points" that it gives increased power without sounding too racy?
Title: Re: Feeler - Possible Group Buy on Intakes
Post by: pazz on March 18, 2009, 10:46:05 pm
I believe its along the same lines in terms of noise as the EVOMS kit. Afterall its the same exposed air filter setup.

For reference (if your after a quieter induction system) the quiter ones usually have the air-filter contained in a box somehow. Which insulates the "suction" noise.

Feedback from the US forums suggests it is quite a bit quieter than the EVOMS.  It is also touted as performing better than the EVOMS as well  :happy2:

This chaps done his research! :happy2: I have read the same thing. See http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?s=6630369a9bc3f29c585fc8253ec9e72a&t=77526&highlight=cai+shootout (http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?s=6630369a9bc3f29c585fc8253ec9e72a&t=77526&highlight=cai+shootout)

If the group buy doesnt go ahead, I will be contacting a guy at BSH about sourcing a K04 unit myself.

Ok, to help get this moving does anyone have or could help get some photo's for the BSH guys of the area where the end of the intake will connect?

Also if anyone has any pic's of the connections on the end of the Evoms intake for the K04 cars aswell would be a very big help?

Thanks,

SteveP

....Extremely poor customer service and response on more than one occasion - Hence why I've never used them - It wasn't for lack of trying!

However, I do fully realise that Regal have many very satisfied customers such as yourself.

I hope this clarifies my opinion and that it's realised that I am not on any 'hate' mission etc - I'm merely sharing my personal opinion based on my direct experience.
