Title: Are All Steering Racks The Same?
Post by: N!CK R on January 13, 2011, 03:53:49 pm
Not sure where I read this now but is it true that all MK5 Golf steering racks are the same (apart from newer generation ones etc..), so could you in theory put one from a 2.0 GT TDI into a GTI?

Also can anyone tell me the part numbers for the steering racks? And if possible the part number for the new loom needed?

Cheers

Can someone confirm this at all?

No I don't think they are Nick. As I said to you before, the documentation mentions 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation which may require an additional wiring loom.

Best to call Peter Cooper's and ask them to give you the numbers based on your chassis number.

Cheers Stu, I've spoke to Peter Cooper already ut they are taking their time with getting back to me.

They did mention that mine was a generation 1, and that a newer generation could be put in with the additional new loom.

Im trying to source a second hand one, just wondered if one from a different engined car would still fit my GTI (if I also got the new loom).

Fuscobal from here has fitted a newer and lighter model on his GTI, worth asking him ?  :happy2:
