Ok, so in the book it says 120k miles, vw dealer says its changed to 4 years (40-60k).
Has anyone had theirs done, should i be thinking about it now as the car is 4 years old?

If it's 4 years old Steve, then yes, regardless of mileage,it will need doing.
Dealer bill is expensive for it, near £500 I was recently quoted :surprised:

just had a good read, yeah looks like it was changed to 4 years... what a change!!
people also reporting their belt comes off as new.. shame at that expense we cant find out exactly when it needs doing. well better prepare myself for this cost!

I just got a leafet in the post today from my garage quoting £319 :surprised: is this good?! The car will be 4 year old in March and has done 25k

The price seems to vary massively - VW usually have a deal where it's £299 for the CAM belt + Tensioner or to have the water-pump changed at the same time £399. My local dealer has a footnote on the offer saying it excludes the 2.0L TFSI - I queried this and was told "there's a lot more work involved" and walked away with a quote for £540 notes. Mine wasn't due when I got this quote, I just happened to be at the stealer's for other reasons and knew it was on the horizon.
Mine is due in March (4yrs) so I've been gathering quotes again, I called the same dealer to get an updated quote. I now have a quote saved on their system for £399 all in - I told them the engine and said I was told that the deal didn't inc. my car but the lady I spoke to was sure I could have it done for that price (she even queried it with someone while I was on the phone). I called a few other stealer's and out of 4 only one told me they wouldn't do my car in the £399 deal - so with this in mind you should be able to negotiate to save having to travel too far. I also came across this (stolen from another thread) and they quoted £380 ish I think:

Most specialists want around £450 pounds, I got a quote from Awesome GTI for £360 but they're a fair distance from me.
