My rear door is refusing to opening. I can hear the door lock clicking (twice) but I can't open it from the inside or outside.
Any ideas what it may be and how I can get the door to open please?

.
This happened recently to a friend of mine who drives an Octavia taxi - Door wouldn't open. His dealer replaced the whole door lock mechanism but it still didn't solve it. Following my advice he went online and found out that a plug connection had come loose. IIRC the connector is in the rubber flexi thing at the hinge end of the front door on the same side of the car as the problem door.
HTH for now but I don't know any more. I could ask him for more detail when I next see him but that might be a few days.

Thanks Robin I will have a look. Presumably the plug connection cannot be accessed unless you can open the door? BTW, I can hear the lock mechanism clicking as if it is trying to open?

^^^^
Apparently the plug part is in that concertina rubber on the front door.

I read this on here the other day. Don't know if its any use to you.
If you have vagcom/VCDS go into central locking and perform an output crash test this will pop the doors regardless of a fault.

....A crash test, did you say? You might pop more than just the doors

Does any one have a screenshot of where in VCDS I can pop open the doors please?
Thanks in advance.

I went into Module '72-Door, Rear Right' and did a 'Output Test-03'. Door still didn't open.
I did notice a message saying that the door lock unit was in 'safe mode' when I go into 'Measuring Blocks' 'Group 05'
Any ideas?

Mo, have you not checked out what I suggested (the physical connections)? - It worked for my friend with exactly the same problem. Water and moisture can get in there over a long time.

I tried...but it was too dark to work out how to take the rubber bits off. I will have another look in the morning.
P.S. I got the door open by constantly unlocking and locking the door and pulling the outside handle. I suspect the problem is still there though and may happen any time.

Car booked in at dealership for this Friday...let's see what they come up with.

Cheers, car going back in on Thursday. Replacement door lock mechanism on order.

Thanks everyone for their advice. VW replaced the door lock mechanism and some cord. All fine now...took them 3 days to sort out... They had to break into the door!!!
