Title: Engine light has just come on.
Post by: dnLcal on January 16, 2011, 04:57:27 pm
As above the engine light has just come on (thankfully only half a mile from my mums house) doesnt seem to be limiting performance, sounds like there may be a bit more popping and banging on the over run than usual (but that said i dont usual drive with my door open and head by the sill).

The car has no modifications and has Momentum 99 in the tank.

I can smell unburnt fuel in the exhaust aswell.

After reading through the manual it seems to be refered to as an 'exhaust gas light'.

I have left the car for 15mins and then gone back to it and it is still there.

The car has been left standing for a week and today was the first day ive driven it, although i have covered around 50 miles and it only just came on as i was close to home.

Anyone know anythink i can try before taking it down to the garage tomorrow as i was planning on going home tonight and im 60 miles away.

I dont have any codes for it as i dont have Can Vag com so cant read this car.

Any help is massively appreciated.

as you already know, really need VCDS for the code, however a fair guess would be a failing coil pack (given you let it sit for a while)

Took the car to APS and got the codes cleared and no problems, cars back to her normal self (even after 150ish miles of varied driving).

After a discusion with one of the guys down there who had been talking to one of his techs we've put it down to the car sitting for a week and potential moisture in the tank or bad fuel (although it was momentum 99).
