Title: Well the Golf is going guys
Post by: Norbreck21a on January 16, 2011, 10:45:27 pm
Well chaps looks like my 5 and a bit year love affair with the Golf is coming to an end.

Due to the wife having a damaged knee, and the manual box in her 2006 Polo Sport becoming a bit of a chore, we've been looking for a replacement. After much looking at Audi, Ford, Nissan etc, she finally settled on Saturday on a new shape Polo SEL with the DSG 7 speed auto box, and a shed load of factory options.

Whilst we were there, the brand manager who sold us the Golf and Polo over 5 years ago appeared, and not only did us a stonking deal on the new Polo, but also offered me a cracking deal on a new car a well. Well after much soul searching between us on Saturday night and working out the pennies, we went back in today and signed for the Polo and.......... My new Scirocco !

It's a Candy White GT 2.0 Tdi (again), with all the usual options, 18" alloys, dual zone climate, auto lights and wipers and the dynamic chassis control. I also added a few options of my own. Winter pack (can't do without the heated seats after having them on the Golf), electric folding mirrors, cruise control, parking sensors and Bluetooth phone prep.

For the first time in my life, I've also added the DSG box (so we both have it). Unfortunately I could afford the £960 for Xenons, or justify the frankly ridiculous price of £1,740 for leather or the glass sunroof, but am still pretty pleased with the spec.

My current RNS-510 will find a new home in the Rocco, and the RCD-510 it comes with will be transferred to the new Polo.

Been told we are currently looking at between 12-14 weeks build for both, so looking at a late April or early May delivery. I will be massively sorry to see the Golf go, as in 30 years of driving I can safey say its been on of the best cars I've ever owned and faultlessly reliable (which we hope the 2 new ones will be as well). I'll stay around here after May if that's ok with you guys (as it's basically a Golf in a party dress anyway), and I do love this forum.

Thanks for reading

Andrew

Thanks Andy. It still seems a bit surreal. I was planning on keeping the old girl for at least another 12 months

Funny how things work out?

I've considered making that trip to the stealers manys a time...I too would consider the rocco in a similar move, sounds like you got a good deal mate. Enjoy the golf whilst you still have her.

I may have a tentative visit soon but each time I go near a sales guy I come out in a rash. I dread what they'd offer though against my 55 plate gti. It's that whole insulting process that keeps me away, you just feel they are taking the total p1ss.

Glad youre happy with the package mate, the wait would kill me.  :scared:

Thanks guys. the funny thing is the wait doesn't bother me because I love the Golf. Even started having second thoughts last night whether I was doing the right thing, after all, the Golf stands me at nothing but the Rocco, I'm going to be paying for for a few years yet  :surprised:

Problem is, the Golf is such a brilliant all rounder, that what ever it's replaced with has to be pretty damn special to beat it. There are things about the Rocco that I'm not impressed over. No exterior boot release, no gas struts for the bonnet opening, and a tiny view through the rear window (compared to the Golf).

I guess I'm just nick picking but you all know me (and many of you are exactly the same), we love our Golf's and defend them to the hilt. Silly as it sounds, I actually feel a bit of a traitor for getting rid of the old girl

Hmmm......was never very good at change.

Well chaps, just had a call from the dealer. My new Rocco has arrived at UK port, and will be with them next week. Oh, I'm getting so excited.

I need to sort out the curriers plate transfer, but anticipate having it either next weekend or the week after (depending on DVLA).

Feel like a child on Christmas eve !

Also been told the wife's new Polo is one week ahead of schedule and should also arrive 2nd week April.

I'll post some piccies when I have it.

Jay, I will certainly get the Rocco detailed at the very least. Unfortunately the dealer isn't too keen on having an outside company at his premises (as you suspected), some bulls*hit about insurance etc.

Not to worry, I'll contact you in the next month or so and get her a good going over.

Yeah, am really looking forward to the Polo arriving as well. 3 door, DSG box, 17" Boavista alloys, flash red, climate, cruise, winter pack, RCD 510 and sensor pack.

Should be really smart !

It's the first time Ive bought the wife a new car ( she usually pays for it herself), so I'm in her god books at the moment.

Damien,

Sorry, must have over looked your post. Yes, don't worry, it will be removed this weekend along with some other parts and will be available to ship early next week.

Will have no bluetooth in the car for a week or so, a good excuse to NOT answer the phone

Just had a call from the dealer, my car has arrived with them ahead of schedule.

They say I can pick it up Monday or Tuesday but I need to get my cherised plate transfered to could be Thursday or Friday next week.

Going down to look at it tomorrow.
