Title: help with itunes and ipad
Post by: gtipirelli on January 17, 2011, 10:45:46 am
Can someone please help me workout how I get our family videos (the little ones I take with the digital camera) from my desktop to my ipad.

I have all the photos in a directory that I point the ipad at but despite copying in the videos and checking the 'add videos' box on the itunes sync bit, it still does not add the videos.

thanks in advance

The iPad will only recognise certain video formats (.mp4, .mov)

If you can find online the VLC App then download that as you will be able to play them through that. (It was removed from the App Store recently)

If not then you will need to convert the video's into iPad friendly format :happy2:

Carl
I thought you would be able to help thanks
I have just checked and my video are type 'video clip' which is obviously not recognised by iPad

Next question is how to convert them without losing any image quality ?

Thanks

Hmm depends really

I mostly use iMovie which is a Mac App. However if your on Windows then i would just do a search on Google for iPad Video Converter.

I used to use Xilisoft Video Converter and still do for some stuff when iMovie won't handle it (it is both a windows & mac app) so that would be a good starting point. Xilisoft will literally convert anything to anything.

If you have a Mac you can use

iMovie
Handbrake
iSquint
Xilisoft

If you have a Windoze

Xilisoft
Erm.......... Google is your friend

Give Handbrake a try. I find its really easy to convert videos/dvds to iPad format or any other format iPhone/iPod Touch etc as they have presets for each device. Then import the converted video into iTunes and jobs a good'un.

Let me know you get on. :)

http://handbrake.fr/

EDIT: Supports both Mac OS X and Windows by the way. ;)

Get CineXPlayer on your iPad - its free from the App Store.
Use that to put your video files onto the iPad, and play (in iTunes, select your iPad, select the 'Apps' tab, scroll down, next to CineXPlayer click 'Add', browse to your file and add.

Simples!

Thanks, I have just had a look at the app on the appstore and it only mentions that it plays xvid format. Do you know for sure if it will play 'video clip' format from my little canon digital camera.

I know the app is only £1.79 but I want to try and avoid the hastle of loading it all up to find that it does not work.

thanks

I'm pretty sure it only plays XVid. I have tried it using other formats and it hasn't played them so i deleted it and got VLC instead.

The VLC Player app was removed from the App Store.

You may still be able to locate it elsewhere on line it just won't ever update.

Ah, Ive only tried DivX and Xvid so far.
I thought you could try it since it was free when I downloaded it!! Must have started charging now that VLC has gone!

If you want to send me a short clip, I can always try it for you?
