Title: Replacement grill
Post by: Gtiain on January 19, 2011, 08:15:22 pm
I've just received my replacement grill from parts4euro.com. Now they claim it's an oem part but I for the life of me can't find a vw stamp on it anywhere. Also it looks overly shiny to me. Now I'm a bit concerned that it's not oem. Can anyone shed any light on whether there is actually a stamp at all on this item and if so where is it? Thanks guys.

May be that its made by the same company who sell to VW which is usually what OEM means.........or am i wrong , thats just my understanding of what OEM means :innocent:

Well as long it's made by the same people I'll be happy. My understanding is that oem means it's an original manufactured product, ie made by vw. Again I might be wrong!  :happy2:

Nope it will be non OEM. It should have the VW part number and logo moulded into the back of the grill!

Ring them.

Its not OEM so if advertised as such then theyve not got a leg to stand on!

Iv seen these on ebay uk for £50-£60

I've just emailed them and said I'm extremely disappointed with the quality aswell as the fact it's not oem and asked what my options are. I don't really want to ring them as they are in America! I'm so pissed off it's untrue!  :fighting:

I know cheers buddy  :happy2:
I just can't be bothered with them arguing the fact it's oem because it clearly isn't. And the fact if they do agree to a refund they'll want me to send it back. I suppose the best way to make sure it's an authentic part is to order it from vw.  :sad1:

I've just looked on their website and they will accept returns however, they charge a 25% 'restocking charge'! They must be having a laugh  :fighting:  :fighting:

As I suspected they say 'we never said it was an oem part' even though I specifically asked if it was to which they replied yes it is. The guy said 'oh it's an oem replacement grille'! If that isn't a underhand play on words I don't know what is. Not only do I have to pay a 25% 're-stocking' fee, I've got to pay for the shipping to send it back!  :fighting:

I'm not a happy bunny. I will not be using them again. Jokers.

Why don't you just keep it? The shinyness will become dull soon, if that makes sense!

I know what you mean! But just the fact that I know it's not oem will niggle away at the back of my mind!

I dont think it will.........if its like the ones iv seen the honeycombe is made from the same plastic as the main grille mask.

Its because its one piece. The OEM grilles are two pieces, the gloss black mask comes away from the honeycombe  :happy2:

Just get a sprayer to blow over the honeycomb part with matt black, Shouldnt cost more than a tenner and will look identicle to original.

My MY06 gti has only covered 7000 miles and the grill is a kind of satin black rather than matt. They do go matt with age I notice - my father in law's 07 ed30 is completely matt.
Exactly what do you call shiny? - pics?

If it's one piece it will look  no matter what you do to it.

As far as I am aware all the grilles are one piece.
Do you still have the e mails from the company?
How did you pay? I would not just  send it back, as you are losing out on postage and on the 'restocking fee' which sounds crap to me.
I would not let them do this.
