.
I got my 'VW05 RED' from DVLA web site - £699 in 2005. Absolutely no regrets, quite the opposite. I didn't plan to get a private plate but was just curious what my local ones would look like. Spontaneous shopping

The DVLA is the cheapest place but if they don't have what you want thats no good.

I have been making my way through the list of dealers listed on the DVLA site.

I got mine from the DVLA I cringe at it's tackiness now and then and they are a royal pain in the arse when you change cars as often as I do but I've got it now so sod it, it can stay.

Dvla is by far the cheapest a lot of the other sites even sell ones on the dvla site and add their percentage to it so beware.

There are many places to get reg numbers from. All are on the internet , do google search "registration numbers". Biggest dealer by far is Reg Transfers and they have virtaully all numbers that are presently available and coming up for auction. DVLA do auctions every year and hae about 4/5 this year. Serach their site under auctions.
Due to the high cost of advertising the dealers mark up is quite high....about 30% plus. Then vat and dvla fee eat away at your cash aswell.

If you buy something like AG55ABC then it will only appeal to a very few. If you buy VW555 it will appeal to many will cost more but will be easier to sell.

Depends what you want the plate for aswell...is it to hide the age or to personalise the car or is it to show off.

What is your budget?

I would say a personal plate is something like RG63.........which is what i am looking for but thats about £5000 plus. About £8k at reg transfers.

If you are after something specific perhaps advertise for it. Most plates put on to personalise car are sold with the car when sold . They generally relate to the car linked to the person. I would say find one and keep it forever......it is then very personal and everyone will recognise you even if you change the car.......or don't you want that (I doubt it )

I am very into registration numbers if anyone wanna ask any questions :happy2:

BE VERY WARY OF ANYTHING THAT SEEMS CHEAP AS THERE ARE ALOT OF CONS INVOLVED IN THIS INDUSTRY

Followed a smart black BMW M5 today: 'M5 WOA' Cool plate I thought.

Then later met a guy with a smart pearlescent black V8 Audi S4: 'V8 BKK' - He's thinking of supercharging it!  :notworthy:

I think a private plate needs to be fairly obvious to justify the cost.

Apparently, so I'm told today, 'VW57 RED' would cost £800 from DVLA.

Tara, how about 'T666-RRA' for £255 on the DVLA site?

I much prefer the old 'prefix' style plates as it's much more apparent that they are private numbers, IMHO.

Always toy with the idea of a private plate. A few years ago I held back from buying S7 VYD (STEVEY D) tacky yes but would have hid the age of my cars and all for £249.

I think they all take offers they are only on retention so they just text the seller about your offer. When i got mine i saw it for £ 1100 and thought i would buy that for £ 500 made an offer of £450 and got a yes straight away.

So best to make an offer, just got to try and work out how much to offer now on one that £1195 exc VAT & 105 transfer fee.
Thanks  :drinking:

So anyone got any advice of what sort of figure may get it?

You will find the same number advertised at different prices with different companies. Reg Transfers own a large number of Numbers and have bought them from DVLA auctions so you can see what they paid. Rememebr they had to pay extras ontop of the hammer price. The ones they own you will have to pay VAT on. I have seen numbers for sale with them for 10 years plus with my initials but i only want specific ones .DVLA will also be selling numbers over the next ten years or more at auction . There are still large numbers of numbers not issued yet. The holders of large stocks of numbers have to hold all the similar numbers to keep te value of their stock. The laws of supply and demand should gradually drop the prices eventually due to there only being a certain number of people who want private numbers.

I am after RG or RJG with the numbers  63 , 136 or 1963. I will pay nearly 5 figures for the one i really want which hasn't been issued yet

Any links to private persons with a number that i am after will benefit from a reward Ifi make the purchase:happy2:
