Several cars i have seen and i have on my car.
There is a join in the metal work on the part of the door that runs up the A pillar from the wing mirror. Why or what is it. It show quite clearly to me on the cars that have it and i havent seen one without it. You can only really see it when you it on the seat , either passenger or drivers.
I thought it was a repair that hadnt been done very well and looked like the damge had been caused by an attempted entry to the car and been badly repaired
So also the area under the headlights just where it meets the front bumper. On both sides the paint of the bumper is pitted. It appears to have been caused by the water dripping off the headlight. Anyone else got this . It shows up on my Silver ED30 and will lead me to have the area resprayed.
The car is perfect apart from this !

Might be worth putting up some pics to clarify exactly where. That way, we can all have a look and report back. :happy2:

Have updated original post.
Show the Nearside door....other door is similar but better finished
The pitting below the headlight is odd. Will add one or two more
-
The headlight one is the bumper solid I.e can't move under the headlight?? Other thing is if the front bumper has being off when fitting it back on if they were not carfull it looks like it could have being rubbing and scuffed it maybe??
-
Just looked at my doors and they have that join also but they are nice and neat no lumpy bumpy
-
The join part way down the door on either side is normal. Some joins are slightly worse than others. The joins on my old GTTDI were worse than on the ED30. :happy2:
Don't know about the bumpers though. There shouldn't be a join and any dodgy paintwork around that area could point to a modification or a bump repair.
-
Did you get it second hand from a VW dealer? They can sometimes be a bit too keen to blow over a stonechipped bumper/bonnet to make it look 'better'... TBH I'd rather have a few stonechips and matching paint, but some buyers are funny so I can see why they do it.
If it's just the bumper, I wouldn't worry too much but if you're that bothered, whip it off and have someone wet-sand and re-polish it. :happy2:

Bodyshop doesnt know how it has been caused. The bumper hasn't ever been off. Its only done 16800 miles , as i say rest of car is perfect. It looks like a load of stone chips all in one place as its gone throught all layers of paint to the plastic underneath. It is as you can see under both headlights. I may try to gradually fill the area with gradual fill from a touch up stick then rub down with compound and polish etc. I am just very fussy and will do it as i see it every time i go to the car

Just checked my car. The doors are smooth. No chips under the headlights (though there are stone chips elsewhere :sad1:).

Open the door and look half way down the A pillar. There WILL be a join there, but it may well be smoothish, but will be noticeable :happy2:
-
Visually, yes it's there but just not bumpy - very smooth join!
-
mine has the joins on the door too and just a thought here but could the pitting on the bumper be caused by astrong mix of screen wash concentrate when the head light washers are used?
as someone said above mate id try getting it polished out before going for paint :happy2:
-
Well its definitely something thats dripped from the light onto the bumper , what it is i think we will never know. Haven't got headlight washers so no answer there. Perhaps? is there a polish that is used on the plastic lens to get the scratches out that may have dripeed and caused this ?
