Title: Richard Keys and Andy Gray....
Post by: Nick S on January 25, 2011, 01:13:56 pm
I might be blind but no one seems to have mentioned this.

They have to go don't they, what a pair of bigots.  Ron Atkinson hasn't worked since his off air comment so why should they?

I agree with Del-Boy. We all have private conversations where we make comments we probably shouldn't. The pair are brilliant commentators, probably the best and that hadn't changed has it? Ron Atkinson's comment was on a different level. There was no need for it.

Richard Keys, now there's a name from the past....

I once described a girl I had an encounter with at a school disco as having a fanny hairier than Richard Keys' back.

This sounds like a typical Daily Mail reader's selectively taking offence at an innocuous comment they make themselves every day type farce. Yawn...

Was listening to a radio phone in today.  People are cancelling their Sky subscriptions because of this.  Is the world going mad or what?
Not sure if Richard Keys will get the boot.  Apparantly, he rang the lineswoman today to apologise and compliment her on her boobs probably!

That either of these guys should be even reprimanded, let alone sacked, is shocking and outrageous imo.

This is PC gone mad. Both genders make 'gender comments' about each other - It's healthy. Any woman worth her salt who doesn't like such a comment would be better to say that it's these blokes who have a problem and she doesn't, and move on.

Storm in a tea-cup but it's outrageous if someone loses their livlihood over such trivia.

Did I miss something with this?
I thought she had a good game - she got all the big decisions right in my opinion. There's plenty of male Premiership lino's I'd take out of circulation before her.

We're at a point where if the male officials are that inconsistent at the highest level, then I'm all for women having a go. Probably get more respect than the likes of Mike Dean and Stuart Attwell

It's hugely damaging for Sky's values to be associated with this sort of behaviour Robin.

They are still yet to decide Richard keys future. in due course it will be known.

....I'm thinking that Sky wouldn't be needing to present itself with such 'high values' if a certain Mr Murdoch hadn't been such a naughty boy.

What are these 'high values' anyway? The sort practiced in prudish bible-belt good old U S of A?

The doomsday brothers are trying to buy sky back which is also being publicised  currently in the media.

Its absolutely ridiculous that Sky have sacked their best commentator over private off air comments.
Surely now every football supporter who now gives the poor woman pelters for bad decisions is now walking the same tightrope.
Everyone has made comments about the opposite sex at some point as jokes, this PC nonsense has got out of hand.
I`m getting out I`m cancelling my Sky sports after the weekend ----hope I get a woman on the phone too

@ too hot.....

Your canceling your subs because Andy gray got the sack??? Or because you didnt like his comments???

andy Gray has been warned of his conduct back in December, and this latest episode was the final nail. That's why he's been axed, and not just over this one incident.

I personally am glad he's gone, gives Sky a chance to bring someone else in that WILL do a better job then Gray done.

Richard keys I feel will get a repremand, rather then the boot. But it will be known in a few days his fate.

I think you may have misunderstood how this came about. The story was leaked to the media, so in reality Sky had no option, fortunately or unfortunately depending on your view point, to deal with it through the media, instead of behind closed doors. In doing so they could only be seen to uphold the values they want to portray as a company, which in answer to Robin's question, are those of good, family fun for all the family, not male chauvinism. The fact is, many of us make sexist remarks in our everyday lives, but not many of us have a platform with which such comments could cause such widespread criticism and offence. Having been warned already he had to go, and I can't say I've came across many people today who disagree with that decision.

Most people I have spoken to, both male and female, think that it's a storm in a teacup and a very sad day when people aren't free to banter, especially at a football match. As a bloke I spoke to in the queue at Waitrose said to me today: "Does that mean that my wife's comments about me not knowing how to boil an egg are sexist?"

The guy who got sacked might be a complete arsehole - I don't know anything about him as I'm not a footie fan - but he's just as entitled as anyone else to have his opinions and to express them however he chooses. It's impossible not to offend someone somewhere whatever your opinions are, and so what. Why be offended by someone else's opinions or comments?

... but he's just as entitled as anyone else to have his opinions and to express them however he chooses.

I think you're wrong Robin. If he's just a man sitting in the football terraces then yes, he can say whatever the hell he wants, but when his comments reflect badly on his employer, then he has a problem. People are looking at this in the wrong context. It's not what he said, or why it offends people, or whether it's right or wrong that it does offend people. The simple fact is that Sky are a company that have a vision, a brand to build, and any negative press harms that. So no, in his position, doing the job he does, working for the company he works for, he has no entitlement to express his opinions in anyway he chooses.

....So in other words he's a paid lackey and must tow the company line.

I've never been someone who follows the herd or tows a company or any other line but I do understand that both men and women in such public positions have a responsibility to keep their opinions private. I think there should be a law prohibiting the publishing of opinions when expressed privately. Otherwise the next step is The Thought Police.

I am sorry but you talk some sh*te at times. Its you who is looking at it from your world of corporate branding image smimmage pap. He clearly should be careful were he voices his opinion's but it was not said on air, His manager should just pull him to one side and say you cannot voice your opinion;s like that in public places at work in toady's age. He was sacked because it was made public by the papers who are complete scum and have unbelievably bad double standards.
Companies like this only act holier than though because they are worried about their image being tarnished,  IE profit's going down from bad press. I bet under the surface they quite happily ruin individual lives to get a story.  :fighting:
Your job is helping companies maximise prophet's and that is why it is you looking at this in the wrong context, because it put's bread on your table.  :popcornsoda:

And if like Saint Steve is suggesting, there is another reason why he has gone, then that is even worse, because they have just spotted an opportunity to earn public browny points and get rid of a problem.

I am sorry but you talk some sh*te at times.

You've got nothing to be sorry about, it just might have been less offensive if you'd just said that you disagreed and put forward your argument as to why.

One question though, how many times have you heard of a presenter being sacked because of something they have said or done that has caused controversy? You're right, he did get sacked because the papers published it, but Sky sacked him because they cannot be seen to protect someone who alienates a section of their audience.

Oh and by the way, my job is nothing to do with divine spirits

No doubt everyone finds it hilarious, with one exception. I enjoy putting forward my point of view, and more often than not I don't follow the herd. But it's one thing having respect for another persons view point, and another dismissing it in such a rude and insulting manner. I'm not interested in coming up against a barrage of abuse every time I say something that goes against the general consensus, particularly when it is executed in such a cliquey manner.

And with that, I bid you all farewell. Laters.

....I happen to be very much the same as you, Andrew, inasmuch as I wasn't born to follow the herd and I often have views very different from others. I too, sometimes get stick etc about what I say. Blokes on car forums will always jump on every single opportunity to have a laugh/banter and most humour is always at someone's expense.

Many of us have been the subject of TC's own particular brand of abrasive humour/comment but having met the guy a few times I can assure you he's okay. Perhaps he just needs to remember he's a Moderator here and ought to be more tactful (he's a Northerner ) and respectful of other people's opinions he doesn't agree with.

As for cliquey, I find that this site isn't especially cliquey compared to many others. Any cliques here are just small collections of folks who have met each other regularly and have become closer friends as a result. An analogy would be a collection of many villages which make up a city - Like London. Oh dear, have I set one up for a Village People post!

I for one, enjoy reading your different opinions and discussions with you :drinking:

But it's one thing having respect for another persons view point, and another dismissing it in such a rude and insulting manner. I'm not interested in coming up against a barrage of abuse every time I say something that goes against the general consensus, particularly when it is executed in such a cliquey manner.

And with that, I bid you all farewell. Laters.

As someone that you have personally abused and dismissed the opinion of in an offhand and insulting manner I am glad you can now see it from the other side of the fence.

Oh and if we are talking about being dismissive and trivial.

:congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:

I don't think you really understand what you're applauding. Best get back to your PS3 eh?

no need to get personal andrew, just because nobody likes you

A bit unfair Joe as I personally will always read what Andrew has to say as he's probably one of the most intelligent people on here (although his PS3 comment was a little infantile for him). Yes I may have a had a run in with him in the past but I put that down to my own ignorance as I probably misunderstood Andrew's manner as he seems to see things quite differently from most of us. And for that reason I'd be very miffed if he did leave this forum as although I may not always agree with what he has to say I do respect it.  :happy2:

Now back on topic, Mr Keys himself has backed up Steve's slightly speculative comments as he said there were dark forces at work with regard the ex Villa scum bags sacking and I for one wouldn't rule out Murdoch's involvement!

Murdoch has absolutely no involvement Nathan..He is a stakeholder in bskyb, and that's it.

Him and his son are trying to buy back into bskyb , a move that's being blocked by the coalition.

Only thing good for sky about all this, is it's share prices are set to sore if Murdoch does get the deal he so badly wants.

sad to read whats been said about Andrew.Topcat isn't the most suttle at times.

I don't think you should quit the forum over what one person has said.

I've had run ins with him aswell in the past, but no one see's eye to eye or agree's with each others opinions in life.

No need to quit chap, just ignore

A bit naive to rule Murdoch out Steve, he's known to be totally ruthless and unforgiving when it comes to business.

But he is no part of sky Nathan, he owns news Corp, he sold his control of us years ago.

if he gets his take over wish, then I would possible agree, but currently he doesn't mate.

But his dirty little fingers are still in the pie Steve no matter how many shares he has!

....That's right - Any number of shares equals a stake holding. Reverse takeover, Steve?

Did Murdoch not 'create' Sky all those years ago then 'merge ' with BSB?  I thought his son effectively ran Sky?  From whats said I take it he sold a fair chunk of it years ago and now wants it back?  How many other people own such a large chunk of the organisation?

Regardless I'm sure a lot of the senior people at Sky are still there from 'his' day, fully understand which way the wind is blowing and will toe the line accordingly either out of loyalty or fear.

Not entirely convinced that Rupert is the 'dark force' in this particular debacle though - did these guys have a beef with him?

Murdoch's son passed the rains of sky to a man called Jeremy Daroch.

People still think that they run our company, but they haven't for the past 3 years :signLOL:

Interesting times ahead.
