Title: Canbus Upgrade For An RNS510
Post by: bodger00 on January 30, 2011, 08:45:20 pm
I am not too sure I understand the naming on these??
For example to ensure the battery drain issue does not occur you would need to get an L revision or greater.
Then I read if you get an AF canbus then that is the latest.
L , AF I am confused :ashamed:

Can anyone shed some light in this?

I know I would need one as I have an 06 plate.

L with only one letter, after that revision range they starter using 2 letters, you know like 5 and 13, 13 is after 5    :drinking:

Imagine A to Z then after that AA to AZ

So AA is after Z

Therefore AF is newer than AD and AD newer than L

Ah that's how they do it then. Fair enough. Obviously A isn't after L so hence the confusion. Don't want to be buying an old one just to find it doesn't work.
Cheers

I upgraded to the RNS 510 version C LED just over a week ago and had to upgrade the can bus also (my 2007 (56 plate) had a can bus version K).

As you will have to upgrade the can bus you may as well get the latest version, AF.

Only if your buying it new. If you can't find an AF secondhand/cheap than many others will do

Yes any can bus L or later will do as the op seems to know.

But this is the one I went for:

Great price I thought :happy2:

The seller has 100% feedback and I have to say he/she deserves it.

I opted for Standard international shipping as half the cost of UPS and it was sent by TNT. Took 3 working days to arrive and worked fine.

It is listed as ‘new’ but not sure if it is. Came in a bubble wrap bag in an envelope, not retail packaged, so most likely used but no marks on it.

These are about £150 from the dealers; I got it for £68 so even if its used I’m happy.

Just to confirm, whats the latest revision and ETKA number?

Also, will the replcement need to be programmed to work with all the options, e.g. Satnav, climate control, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, So how do I go about examining the previous settings?  Will it be in the VCDS read outs?
