Is there much to do on site, and off?
Only VW show I have ever been to and camped is Malvern (BVF)  which has loads of cool stuff to do in the town as well,
Will prob go to this one anyway as it's  quite local, is it £30 per person?

£96 for me and the missus if we want to camp, bit too rich for my liking, is Saturday better than the Sunday? Think I am going  to be cheap and just do one day.

We weren't planning o a longer crusade so 9 days are a bit much, i don't think we can rape and plunder that long
I always think of Dave Allen where he was a viking shouting "rape and plunder" and an old toothless wmoan says "yes please" and his horns on the helmet suddenly points downwards. He was a funny guy.  :signLOL:
As much as i would love visiting Goodwood i can't justify that many days i'm afraid  :sad1:

Agree, that's a piss take IMO. You would have to do 20+ runs to make it worth while.. Plus the queues at Inters are hardly quick either..  :surprised:
Title: Re: GTi International 2011
Post by: a89 on March 17, 2011, 03:17:15 pm
I'm guessing they'll be even slower now with the all day sprint pass meaning people want to get as much value for money.

An extra £50 and you can have an open lane track day.
Title: Re: GTi International 2011
Post by: joesgti on March 17, 2011, 03:19:09 pm
they really do cash in on this event!! VC the ques at santa pod are stupid, but inters que is still a joke tbh.

20+ runs in one day isnt possible imo, including dinner and stuff, youd be sat in your car all day. They should drop it to £40, then some people might actually go for it.

Its just off the M1 south of Leicester
I've looked at premier inn's, there's a few in Leicester @ £29 for the Saturday Night  :happy2:
Ain't booked mine yet but looking at either:

Leicester (Brauston South)
Leicester (Braunston)
Leicester (Forest East)

^ All £29 each for the night.

I won't book it yet as could maybe see who else is interested and try stay in the same hotel  :happy2:

Definitely! Ordinarily, you state when you order whether you're part of a clubstand and select which one. You then get a ticket and a clubstand pass in the post. Went to check on this and there doesn't seem to be anywhere to do this! :stupid:

Stand passes will be issued to the designated club stand organiser only from Autometrix.  The club organiser will then send/hand them out to those who wants to be on the stand (or whoever the club organiser wants to...)

Not sure of reasoning behind this but I suppose it gives the designated stand organiser the power to decide who goes on the stand!

I figured it'd be something like this. The question is how far in advance do they get the passes, and how will they be passed onto forumites.

Also how many allowed on the stand and should we start a list?

They will send it out with enough time obviously for the organiser to distrubute. maybe a month before the show but it is down to the club organiser to tell Autometrix how many passes they require.
Also upto to organiser to distribute to attendees. how he/she does that is up to them. Post?Pre show meet? On the morning of show meet pre entry?
There is no real limit to how many allowed...but if you ask for big plot and only use half then you will not be seen in good light for following year. They may also ask you to provide a list of forum people attending to back up plot size request.

9 days oh sh1t

Do you mind if I put some Roccos on your stand steve? Wigit is pulling the plug on the other side! However I'm working on an alternative plan for 2 of them but won't be confirmed for another 2 weeks.

So with that can I take 4 spots for the sunday for now  :happy2:

I'm checking with the other 2 now..... but like i say myself and 1 other might be on the main dealer stand but I won't know for another 2 weeks as they've just started the planning.

I could prolly fill those 2 spots with another 2 Roc's tho so should be safe.

If your on a club stand do you have to be static during the show times (if not taking part in any of the events).. Just want to know coz if not I'll be up for being on the stand Sunday.. Only reason I'm asking is I might need to shoot early depending on circumstances at the time

Being on the club stand is a great privilege.  It means you have been fully accepted into the Mk5 community.  :notworthy:

All you have to do is take turns with the rest of the members selling Mk5 forum merchandise ( t-shirts, leg warmers, mugs and flags ) from the club stand.  :happy2: While it is your turn on sales, the other members take turns trying to beat 13 seconds up the strip in your car.  :happy2:

Would you like me to put your name down for Sunday as well ..    :happy2:

Remember to make sure your clutch is okay. Last time I went to Inters, half of the clutch was left on the strip. TC can be pretty aggressive with his right foot!  :scared:

I will be there around tea time I reckon , time for a shower and some scran , before the pints!!  :drinking:

About the show , Ive never been , is it worth getting advanced tickets or just pay on the gate? Im not fussed with saving the £3 or whetever it is , but if theres less of a queue for advanced ticket holders to get in , it might be worth doing.

Anyone wanting stand passes please email me your name and address and also say which day you want the passes for so I can get them in the post tomorrow  :happy2:

Steve, sorry to sound a bit dumb but what does a stand pass entitle you too?

Is it your car on the stand?

Can you then take it off the stand later i.e. to get to camp site?

Any left?

Have a look in my other thread. Might put some pics up. Can't spot any dents but there's paint damage. If I manage to recover, I might see if it'll "t-cut" out (obviously not going to use t-cut)!

Do we need a forum gazebo to protect the cars on the stand if it rains?

Why are they not waterproof?

I can confirm that I have driven and left mine out of the garage when it rained and it IS waterproof! :signLOL:

A bit pants if it's raining and you can't see the cars. Might've been nice to have them dry and shiny!

Are you one of the lads staying at the Prem Inn? Im guessing we will all go together in a convoy! Im sure once youve got in the gate and paid (remember to hang your pass on your rear view mirror before you arrive!) you follow a signposted route to the show area.

I may be going on the Sunday, depending on weather, hopefully on the club stand, somehow  :ashamed:.

I'm sure if you flutter your eyelids at SteveP, he might be persuaded to let you on to the clubstand. Though I've heard rumours that he sometimes wants more.  :scared:

I'm staying at the premier inn on the Sat night, so convoy on Sunday is fine  :happy2:

So thats why I'm wondering if people are meeting up on Sat morning before the show? Yeah I know about the club passes routine etc but dunno about clubstand setups at the venue etc

IMPORTANT INFO

Whether you approach on the M1 from north or south, we suggest you make for junction 20 ( Lutterworth ) and then follow the main route eastwards, via North Kilworth, using the *A4304, B5414 and A5199. It will be well marked with GTI International direction signs on the day. -  *PLEASE NOTE: Recent resurfacing means that the B5414 (Pincents Lane) between North Kilworth and the A5199 is covered in loose chippings (advised max 10 mph). To avoid the possibility of paintwork damage, you may prefer to continue east on the A4304 to Husbands Bosworth and then turn left (north) onto the A5199 towards Bruntingthorpe.

Money for old rope:

1 x sprint run
        - before 10.30am = £5
        - after 10.30am    = £7
2 x sprint runs = £12
3 x sprint runs = £16
4 or more runs = £5 per run
ALL DAY SPRINT PASS = £75

there was quite a head wind at first when it was dry, then it rained and the wind died down.  Its my excuse for not breaking into the 13s

NeilM one the Mk5 catagory.  Not sure of his time but most peoples seemed lower.  this is another of my excuses.

Fastest cupra and golf of the day was only a 13.7 and they looked fully tricked out.  Think traction was everyones main issue tbh.  Im thinking they would probably have a good half second improvement on a proper strip with a grippy surface.

Yeah, as Sy says, I think everybody's problem was the surface and that horrendous traction. That landing strip is rubbish compared to normal tarmac.  I smell a WALK kit purchase on the horizon
I have no idea how Sy managed a sub 6 seconds on that surface. Well done mate, the fabia is rapid  :congrats:
On the run after I thought my clutch had blown up  :signLOL: I remember if the finish line was 10 yards further I would have pipped you
Ironically my fastest 0-60 time of 6.13 I didn't start off quickly and didn't go near flooring it.
Wish I was there tomorrow to try a few in the dry and with a bit of heat on the track

Yeah, as Sy says, I think everybody's problem was the surface and that horrendous traction. That landing strip is rubbish compared to normal tarmac.

I have no idea how Sy managed a sub 6 seconds on that surface.

Pah!!! sub 6 seconds 0-60 is easy on that track with a piddly little KO 3  :innocent:

If only it was in your MK4. Missed the Porsche run.  :sad1:

An awesome day. A few of the usual suspects weren't there which kind of was a bit disappointing. Otherwise good to meet new faces. Went on a spending spree and for once it wasn't on sweeties. There was only one sweety stand that I could see, which was a bit of a disappointment.

On the way back, silly satnav took me down entire roads of "loose chippings" which was gutting.

Guys, genuine question - where was the forum stand?  I looked in most areas but couldn't see a dedicated one for here. Saw the clubgti stand from it's banner.

I only spent a couple of hours there as I was pretty hungover but managed to briefly bump into Al (Big Al) again, who was deep in convo with someone :happy2:
Saw Jake's car by the Revo stand.

Presume it was Ben's white 135i that was running some decent times(?).
Would have liked to have seen Neil's trials and tribulations but I got there way too late.

Just caught 'the' 911 on a run. It sounded epic

Glad it seemed to be a good day for most

Quite a bit burnt now tho, lol

On the way back, silly satnav took me down entire roads of "loose chippings" which was gutting.

Had exactly the same on the way back, nearly every other road was like it but no where near as bad as the one in from the hotel as was only doing 5mph on that one..

hope the 3 "Scirocco" invaders didn't cause any probs for you guys and girls.

Saw Joe's run in the white 911....very nicely done. Has PDK i take it

Gotta say mighty impressed at how quick JonnyC can change gears in his TTRS and doing some stonking times.

I turned left out of the airfield and followed the signs for Lutterworth. No loose chippings on that road thank god.

Superb day, I kind of got embroiled in the 1/4 mile all day and suddenly it was time to go home!

The black death was by no means quick, surface was a shocker as ever, but at least I had some fun. Didn't bother stripping out, sticky tyres etc, so I've got a proper stock benchmark.

5.2 0-60
13.7 quarter.

I kind of got a feel quite early, as I fishtailed the whole first run!

Tabs was the bad run, he couldn't turn off the TC

Ben's was strong. Obviously his is mapped and has DCT and LC, but I think it was causing problems launching and sandbagging his times. That's got much more in it.

No mate, they started putting PDK in them in 09 i think, mines an 08,

i held my foot on the brake and reved it to 2k biting. couldnt believe the time myself. If it had PDK then it would have been in the 10's i recon, am happy with 11.3 though  :pomppomp:

Good to meet a few people didn't stay too long to be honest due to feeling a bit ropey from a late one with lots of alcohol the previous night. Forge and revo bloody cost me a packet though, decided to give the twin take a shot instead of my custom autograph cold air feed filter,  and the intercooler boost pipes, then got the ths intercooler from revo so got some fitting to get done now. Will post my thoughts once I've got it sorted. See the mk1 was there with his parachute putting in some good results again! Didnt get any runs unfortunately due to my top engine and gearbox mount being knackered, this is die to the lower one being replaced and the top two taking the brunt of it now. Should hopefully be sorted next week, going for the vwr uprated ones or are people's views on the bsh just the same?

JoesGTI, did you come up in your silver MK4? was driving home about 4and kept overtaking/dropping back with one that could have been you?

I really enjoyed the show all in all today, best trade stands I have seen at a show, good quality entertainment (would have liked the half pipe biking to stay on a bit longer) and nice to catch up with a few of you, found it so easy to lose track of time though, was going to come over to the club stand after show and shine judging, but was far too sunburned and  just wanted a nice air conned car to get me home! (Sorry SteveP, especially after you went to the trouble of finding me and giving me the pass)

think u were very very consistent tho mike with the runs i saw.

Did you let Tabs have a go in it? think he was lil bit slower (5.7 0-60 from memory)

Ben did a 5.0 i think.

You're not wrong mate. Soooo frustrating! As much as I like electronic gizmos in this day in age, sometimes they can ruin things..  :sad1: Launching wasn't a problem at all, it was the poxy stability control that didn't like the bumps  :sad1: According to the V-Box on Sat evening, I lost a good 6/10ths on the 0-60...
Never mind, I still had a cracking weekend and it was a shame I saw you so late in that day.  :sad1:

Great day, and like others have said, got a very red head today. I convoyed over there with Joe in the porka and Tom in his mapped TTRS, its the only time my stg2+ S3 has felt under-powered lol was a good drive over though. The porka sounded awesome going through the tunnel in Stoke

Managed a 13.4 on my first run and couldn't better that, sure I did a 13.1 last year so was a tad dissapointed, I'd even put the lighter TD's on in an attempt to beat it lol.

My final thougths are I need a mapped TTRS in my life, Tom's is stunning and goes so well :driver: :driver:

So you were the one i was saying "Seriously, GTI International? Who is letting BMWs on the strip?" about.  :happy2:

To be honest, only VW Group cars should have counted towards the strip times. Although times should have been provided to those not in VAG cars, they should not have been put in the competition pool.

Viper/Vette they all look the same to me.

I paid my money to get in and for my sprints - their decision to run a Misc class, not mine. I've attended and supported International for over a decade, are you saying I shouldn't have run, Luke?

I knind of see your point, a fleet of (insert car) turning up for some cheap action is wrong, GTI enthusiasts who happen to have something else with them on the day is another matter.

You'll notice I didn't put it on the free handling track, which was excellent BTW. I thought that would have been rude and taking advantage. I'm not a complete b******!

Not saying that at all. But it kind of defeats the object of GTI International a VAG owners event, when Corvettes are parked in Club displays and the like.

Oh, and you would have been welcome to take part in the handling arena. Even a Corsa went round. Its just that anything outside of VAG didnt qualify for the competition.  :happy2:

Bum. I should have asked. Although with the ease this thing goes sideways, I'd have been pulling cones out of the arches all afternoon!

I see your point, there's no harm in competition for all, but as soon as you start assigning prizes and it should be VAG only.

Had a great day Sunday, the convoy down and back with Joe, Gaz and Mr. Brown was epic. The tunnel run was just  :rolleye: :rolleye: :rolleye:

Only managed to get one decent run in which was a 3.8 (0-60), 12.4 (quarter) which I was preety chuffed with. On my 3rd run my clutch decided to throw it's toys out of the pram when I launched. Thought I had done some serious damage but it all turned out ok in the end thank god!

Joe's Porka was just mental, it's a seriously fast time he did with his gangsta 20' rimz and the stone age automatic gearbox

Looks like 13.46 was the fastest Mk5 Gti of the weekend, not that quick really, Hurdy, JonnyC, Etc come on back boys

Anything under 14 seconds is fast for Brunters Neil :happy2: you can take around 0.5seconds off for Santa Pod, so you should be sub 13's with yours :jumpmove:

Last year was warm too , but I'd say this year was slightly hotter on Sunday and will have affected times.

I didn't really get chance to speak to anyone much as i got caught up with helping some friends who had their car in the show and shine and with having my first ever go on the strip. Just had a look at the results and i came 11th in class for the quarter with 14.443 and 3rd in class for the 0-60 with 5.67. Not too bad for a 1.4! To say i was surpised is a bit of an understatement!

I thought the times on Saturday were a bit down due to the rain but Sunday's seem no better, must have got a bit to hot.

Looks like 13.46 was the fastest Mk5 Gti of the weekend, not that quick really, Hurdy, JonnyC, Etc come on back boys

Not sure how I ended up on the Mk4 list  Hope John Wilkinson's 13.80 got recognized.

Same thing happened to me on Sunday my mk4 got fastest 0-60 and 1/4 in my class, but a car which should have been in another class got my award and 1st slot.. It was a brill day I loved seeing the 4wd cars get of the mark, and a stock BMW showing a lot of the 400bhp+ car up. :driver:
Nick

I thought it was you I see, I was saying to my boyfriend 'that looks like Nick from R-Tech in that black mk4!'  :signLOL:

Good result.  :happy2:

It was me.  I saw your run on the strip with what it looked like four people in the car and with a huge grin on your face..lol

Nice to put a name to a face, I know everyone by user name but not face.

As for ecu control there aint much I cannot do with an 1.8T 2.0Tfsi ecu, I can even do LC for the ED30s without DSG.. :happy2:

You can't choose where u want to be located, club plots are allocated by Autometrix.

Doesn't stop the club stand organiser asking them for a "better" location tho....if they want to.

It's exactly the same position as last year's IRC??
