what other hot hatches would float your boat after your MK 5 bearing in mind how feckin good they are?
Before i bought my ED30 i thought an S3 or a MK 6 R would be a tempting upgrade in a few years but now after stg1 revo i cant see them as being enough of an upgrade with the 4wd being the only major advantage, think will skip them and get saving for that RS3/ MK 7 Golf...
-
theres only 3 cars id be interested in if were talking PROPER hot hatches. The golf/leon wouldnt get a look in, neither would the octavia. They are all to soft and lack the power.
Meganne RS250
Rocco R
Focus RS
in that order as well.
If i was going for smaller again
it'd be
Clio RS200 cup
Mini Cooper S JCW
or a Fabia vRS with VAT off
-
Money no object of course lol. It'd have to be a Golf R or Rs3, or in another category a TT RS. All big bucks though :signLOL:
Think the Leon Cupra R would be a good shout for the money.
Focus RS one of the most disapointing cars ive ever driven, especially with all the hype. RS500 not much better. Has the looks but cant keep up going quick. :driver:

really? i thought the RS and RS500 would be seriously quick what with that fancy transmission set up at the front? was it just too heavy?
-
Reasonably fast yeah, but no chance of stopping all that weight. Harsh ride as all hot hatches have but still loads of body roll with weight transfer. :stupid:
A standard Leon cupra was ultimatley more planted and quicker round the circuit on the day :ashamed: The RS500 was slightly better but still heavy so was a bit more fun, purely because of the monster angles you can get it back from! :driver: I never drove the RS500, just watched. Speant 2 days in the standard RS though.

.
The RS3 is currently the only one I'd consider to follow my Mk5 GTI.

My car with eibach front and rear anti roll bars, AP coilovers, WALK and stage 2+ had to really work to stay with the standard FRS. I did stay with it, but i had to work at it. Same thing happened when we drove each others cars. (ive also driven many other heavily modded golfs and leons and they were no different in grip or handling etc to my vRS once modded)
The FRS is miles ahead of the golf/leon and octavia when in standard form. Maybe the Golf R, Scirroco R or Cupra R can rivval it but not a normal gti.
Id still take the meganne RS first though
TTRS/RS3 etc dont count as a hot hatch. far to expensive to be classed as a hot hatch

with your thoughts on handling im surprised your not into the meganneRS250 RR??
-
Was this on track or road? If track wich one? Perhaps Knockhill isnt a fair trial for the RS, its never going to suit a heavy car, with standard brakes etc.
I can see the Rs being faster in a straight line than standard cars, but a mapped Edition 30 is all over it.
Really like the the old shape megane, the one with the cage. Cant adjust to the new shape ones wheels
-
em...... private road.

....I don't fancy the styling of the Meganne or most French cars except the Nimik 2CV van conversion with the Ferrari engine:

 :notworthy:  Needs playing loud when the car appears on the road.

im a fan of the new one. A million miles ahead of the old one in looks, build quality and interior

I think the styling on the new top of the range megan is superb, it looks the biz. Far better than the Rocco, although i do like the rocco from some angles. :happy2:
-
My mate has the new megane sport, power is linear but the handling is superb.
When my ttrs was stock waynes stage 2 plus k1 would pull lengths on me rolling from 30 and I wouldnt catch up till silly speeds.
Stage 1 remap on the TTRS against the k1 and you are left wondering if the stage 2 plus k04 driver is still trying. Throw in some twisties and the k1 didnt stand a chance at all.
The only real step up from a stage 2 plus k04 is a TTRS/RS3.
Standard brakes will struggle to keep up though on a track on a mapped car as the speed you will get is just silly.

BMW 1 series M or an e92 M3
not strictly hot hatches but I think the 1M is going to be excellent. The RS3 is going to be a hard package to beat in the hothatch class, possibly the most complete package ever as a hatch????

except it looks like an a4 estate and only comes as a 5 door :rolleye: not really a hot hatch imo.

....Agreed. The RS3 in Sportback is more of a small Avant. It offers very similar interior accommodation to the Golf but I wouldn't describe it as a hatchback.
-
And its only come with 7sp DSG, which is almost certain to annoy some 'purists'
-
Does the RS3/TTRS come with the 'proper' Quattro drivetrain or the second rate Haldex?
Did anyone read last months evaluation of the Golf R v Evo and STI Scoob?
They didn't really rate the Haldex equipped Golf in the snow like the other proper 4 wheel drive systems which are permanent.
Their oppinion I suppose (and mine from track experience)
I'd like to buy the V8 RS4 Avant in black in a few years time. The M3 CS is a very good secondhand buy right now too and has a properly good chassis.
Older RS4 is nice although very expensive to maintain after speaking to APS.
TTRS floats my boat but I don't think they will drop much anytime soon....nice package though.

im not gonna rise to that :signLOL: but no, it looks like an astra trying to be a golf, as for build, the r26 is well put together.
on topic, i will never buy another hot hatch but if i did i would want a golf r.
