Post by: BMX on February 07, 2011, 06:17:46 pm

which size?

- Conti SC5P
- Michelin PSS (if 19")
- Pirelli P Zero (no Nero or Rosso)

But the Pirelli will get noisy when older.

i want quiet tyres that a comfortable good wear rate and good performance in wet (as its mainly raining) most tyres are good enough for me in the dry tbh

Yes, when wet grip and comfort ist more important buy a set of PS3,
but the Conti SC5P are good as well though.

Seen on here recently ppl recommending Vreds. These are cheaper than PS3's though so what are the main differences between the two?
Why would you choose to pay more for the PS3?

without having tried any of them, i would say PS3 are better than the Vred. But the Vred are much better value for money. Michelins are quite pricey and i'm not sure they can justify the extra they cost compared to the Vred's.
But we have to remember that the french has to earn extra as they are getting retired at 50, not 70 as the danes are about to

If you can afford it then PS3. I went from Vred to PS3 and whilst dry performance is the same the wet performance is better with the Michelin.

Having said that I don't think the difference in performance is worth the extra cost over the Vred. I would have got the Vred again without hesitation if the PS3 weren't getting such rave reviews. Try and see if you have an ATS Euromaster near you. When I got mine they had a deal where you bought 4 Tyres, got 25% off and £40 of sainsbury vouchers which worked out at something like £419 iirc for 4 Tyres fitted.

Mine are 225/45/17 though.

Got a good price for some sport contact 3 inc fitting I like these. Did you know they are 1.5kg lighter than a Michelin pilot sport

Nope never knew that. They don't get that good a review on tyre reviews.

CSC 5 P do though not had many reviews yet.

Vred review

Finally PS3 Review

Its funny how they class Vred as a mid range tyre but the others as high end.

I've just fitted these to my slingshot (they are continentals cheap version) and really like them. Had 2 on the front and after 15k miles they still have 6mm on. The car is a mapped Diseasel aswell so has a fair bit of poke. They seem to grip quite well in all conditions. Even in the snow.

I was running Vreds when I picked up the Ed30 and I have to say on a stage 2+ car, the dry performance was ok, but still could spin easily. In the wet, they were quite a lively tyre, but again calmed down after a spirited drive and a bit of heat was put into them.

I am now running PS3's and can say there is a definate difference, the car feels a more planted on these with more confident grip both wet and dry, It seems to grip better on turn in and holds on more before hints of understeer appear.

I also have a set of R888's on my summer/track wheels. I ran these for a large part of last summer. Brilliant tyres in the dry, stick like s**t to a shoe. The car feels incredibly planted on them, but what you gain in grip, you lose in longevity and also there is an increased road noise!

Its worth shopping around. I got my PS3's fitted and balanced at a local tyre shop for £12 a corner more than I was able to get the Vreds for online.

Would have to say Continental Sport Contact 3's are my preference, but lots of people say Michelin's
