A friend of mine is considering selling his Golf, but wanted an idea of how much he should be looking at:
VW Golf GTi Mk5 (05 plate)
Metallic Grey
5 Door Manual
iPod connection in glovebox (installed by VW)
Body is in overall good condition (no scratches etc that I know of).
Wheels have the odd scuff mark (original Monza's).
Car has covered 100,000 miles.
Full service history from VW.
He's considering a trade in for an Evo, Subaru, or a Monaro....
How much would you think its worth if sold private?

Bit of a drop down in quality for him/her....I would guess its a 05/55 so about £7500

I couldn't sell mine for £7750 and it has a higher spec (leather, sat nav etc) and lower miles (92,000)....I think the market seems a little flat for these at the moment
EDIT - plus mine is a 56 plate...

Just before new year a VW dealership gave me 7.5k part ex for my 05 boggo spec gti with 92k on the clock against an eddy. First offer was 4.5k though :surprised: and I was just willing to walk away from the deal. Guess I was just in the right place at the right time

I think it depends where you are in the country as well as the time you are selling it. I am in Surrey and paid £10,500 about 4 months ago for mine and I would like to think it hasn't gone down too much since then as I might have to sell it and replace it with a Diesel version

House mates just been looking at GTI's and the North South has a big divide on the cost of well specced cars, all the fully loaded low mileage decent GTI's where in the North of the country equivalent car in London area was £1,000 to £1,500 more expensive. High mileage on that one and low spec would put it down in the regions suggested 7-8k but you still havent told us the year.

Mine is a 56 plate pretty high spec 55k on the clock (50k when I bought her) Leather seats, winterpack, monza IIs etc.. but we might be relocating to Brighton soon and my girl uses the car twice a week to travel to Uxbridge and I dont really want to drive her (my car) into the ground whilst racking up some serious petrol receipts.

Looking in this months Glass guide book the car books at:
£8,875 @ 59k Miles Trade Price
£10,275 @ 59k Miles Retail Price
Retail price is for a main dealer so private will be less.
When you adjust it for the high mileage it reduces it by -£1675 so correct value is:
£7,200 @ 100k Miles Trade Price
£8,600 @ 100K Miles Retail Price
But as a trader realisticly I would say trade in for £6,000 and sell private for £6,990.

Thanks guys - will let him know :happy2:

Glasses guide............is only a guide.
Try finding any car on a BMW/MERC/AUDI etc forecourt thats NOT well over the retail of Glasses Guide ! Its what you can get for it , always whatever you're selling.....just look at other cars of similar spec and price accordingly. Never P/EX is what i would advise unless you can afford to lose money , does make the process so easy though :happy2:
