Title: Osir carbon instrument cluster cover
Post by: heavyd on February 09, 2011, 02:36:19 pm
Just fitted one of these, makes a nice finishing touch to match the rest of the carbon in the car. Whats the verdict, yay or nay?

Yes, it's comes backed with 3m adhesive and just sit on top of the normal cluster. I paid £53 with delivery, but it is genuine carbon fibre.

.
My first concern would be whether the carbon's deep lacquer finish causes unwelcome reflections.

Went in a new Rocco recently and noticed that the silver trim (bling imo) around the dashboard side vents was reflected in the glass window of the door near the wing mirrors. Not clever, Herr Fritz!

My second concern is a reduction of visibility of the indicator icons.

It just sticks over the old one mate, no need to remove the old one.

....I remember the first time I went to GTI International - I took "International" to mean that there'd be all sorts of traders and VeeDub owners from all over Europe. Sadly it's a misnomer and not the case  :sad1:. It's unfortunately the same every year too - Just gets more and more expensive.

What do you mean by getting to the dials?
They are behind a plastic screen, you can still get to the buttons as there are cutouts

Sorry obviously I have not made my self clear . What I am trying to asertain is how you removed the plastic surround etc to access the dials to enable you to adhere the carbon surround on , or did you just stick it to the plastic cover in front of the dials ?

Have you managed to do this yet?? I've just got myself one of these but see your predicament with the clear panel in the way... Anyway, it can't be impossible or they wouldn't sell them...well mabey.

You don't remove anything. It just sticks on the top of the cluster.

.
It looks good in the photo but OSIR carbon tends to be very high gloss and I've always wondered if it adds reflections or if it's distracting. I'd love to see one in the flesh.

I suppose that if it just sticks on, you could alternatively use the new 4D carbon vinyl wrap but that could be tricky to apply accurately in the extreme!

I've got one fitted. Zero reflections - well that you notice when driving anyway. :)
