Some advice please guys, (thanks to Golfman and EddieNL for their advice so far :happy2:) I am about to gather all the bits for the retro fit of the headlamp washers but I have got a few questions that I can't answer without ETKA.
Is the following all I need?
I already have the Kufatec washer loom. The list I have managed to gather from one of Morty's posts (for a tdi) so far is:
Pump for headlight washers - 3B7 955 681
N903 038 01 this is the O-ring for the pump
Gasket - 431 955 465A
Lift Cylinder - 1K6 955 978A x 2
Speed nuts - n909 591 01 x 4 - 2 per cylinder
Nozzle carrier Left - 1K6 955 103
Nozzle carrier Right - 1K6 955 104
Cover cap Left - 1K6 955 109 GRU --------- Are these for the GTI?
Cover cap Right - 1K6 955 110 GRU --------- Are these for the GTI?
Adaptor - 1T0 955 665
Connector - 1J0 955 665E x 3
Hose in 10m length - 1J0 955 964F ----------Do I need a full 10m? Apparently its £8 a metre??
Angled piece - 1J0 955 665A
Junction - 7L6 955 873
Terminals - 1J0 955 846 x 8
Cable tie with teminal socket - 3D0 971 838E x 1
I am told I may need these too, how I can check?
Water level for the washer bottle.
Water level switch - 7M0 919 376
O ring - 7M0 919 382
Flat contact housing - 7M0 973 202
Questions
Are all these for the GTI? I have been told that most of the bits are around a fiver from VW with the exception of the pump (Approx £50).
I presume the job involves......bumper off, existing water bottle off, hole drilled for pump in existing bottle, attach and route loom from pump to cecm, attach water pipe to bumper, attach lift cylinders and fit new bumper mouldings, code in via VCDS...... Is that close? :rolleye:
Does anyone have the full costs involved here?
I have found this pump on ebay that seems to be a new copy, maybe I would regret getting this  Would you recommend a VW pump?
[ebay]180385085419[/ebay]
Anything else required?
Hesitating to bug Darren on this one (that will come later mate :signLOL:)
-
I'm going to jump in any way buddy  most of them item numbers are for the normal golf bumper and R32 but not GTI they use different shaped jets but the part number for the jets is the same minus the A on the end.
Apart from that you more or less have the know how, also that is the same pump has what I have? Think I paid £17 and have had a couple of them for other people, they have been fine.
Just on a side note measure from the one side of the bumper to the other and add a little extra and thats the amount of hose you'll need. Make sure you have a very sharp knife or cutters.

Cheers Darren, I knew you would know :happy2:
Probably best to start with the pump & the jets then. Cheers for the measuring tip. I will build up the bits over time.
Cheers :drinking:
-
Keep looking on ebay I found about 3 sets of jets on there that i've used on retrofits.
Happy hunting mate, just let me know if you need any thing, I do have about a meter of hose but its no good for the lengh across the bumper,
Cheers

Does the golf use a larger washer bottle for Xenon equipped cars?

Does the golf use a larger washer bottle for Xenon equipped cars?
5.5L i think, for cars with washers.
-
Yes it does Stu although the marks are there so you can drill out the existing bottle, and to be honest I use my washers quite a bit with this sh** weather and it still lasts some time...

If a job's worth doing ..................... :signLOL:

Your absolutely right mate, which is why I have the bottle sat in my shed waiting to go on  it'll get done just like the other million and 1 thing I need to do.. :happy2:
Darren

i have a set of washer jets and the pipe line if any one wants to make me an offer for them
-
How did this one go for you bodger?
I am looking to do this as im very close to having some xenons fitted.
Is that list of parts everything you needed for your gti and also did you fit them yourself or have someone do it for you?
-
I'm not there yet Comms :sad1:
I have all the bits and pieces now but I'm in need of some coding assistance to get it all in and working (Darren has kindly agreed to assist when he is free). I am going to do a retro fit properly with washers, auto levelling and the xenons fitted at once.
Its not the full list above, although its quite close. I will have some spare hose soon if your interested as my parts guy gave me a full 5 metres (which I doubt I will need). I will need to fit mine first though.
Ive just finished spraying my bumper mouldings that attach to the jets and they have come out quite well. Be careful you get the right ones if you buy them new as there are 4 listed.
-
What was the cost of it all bodger...im currently pricing it up for mine. PM me if you wish :happy2:

If you are wanting new kit then your looking at approx £150 inc the bumper mouldings. Obviously if you can get the parts second hand then its likely to be cheaper. If your a keen bargain hunter (mentioning no names) then you can get the lot for about £50.
-
That just the washers, or the levellers too?

You'll get there soon enough im sure :happy2:
That's my exact intention aswell. To do the whole lot in one go to make sure its fully road legal once installed. Just make sure you don't throw that "parts number list" away once you're done, as im going to need a copy lol
If you have any spare bits that I can use after you're done i'll be happy to take them off you if no one wants it.
By the way, are you doing the install yourself?
-
I will make sure I post the full parts no list when done :happy2:
-
If the weather stays like this mate was thinking of brushing the dust off the soldering iron and sorting my tool box out for next weekend????
Let me know if you have any free time Bodger?
Cheers

Yep i'm free
Drop me a PM or text. :happy2:

Chris have you bought the bigger water bottle?
Darren
-
I haven't Darren. I figured that we could cut a hole in it and fit the pump and rubber grommit in the existing bottle. I hardly ever run out of fluid so not too bothered about a larger one. I saw someone do it in a guide you posted a while back.
-
There a bleeder to do thats the only thing? but I do have the tools to do it so don't worry :happy2:

I did yes......I wouldn't recommend it though it took forever and lots of patience.

Fair play
Im quite nifty with car paint to be fair...might even fire up the compressor and do it the professional way

Does the golf use a larger washer bottle for Xenon equipped cars?
5.5L i think, for cars with washers.
I wonder if this applies to the R32. I'm forever running out of fluid, I've always assumed I had a smaller washer bottle because of the amount space the engine occupies.
-
All xenon equipped golfs use the 5.5 ltr bottle :happy2:

IIRC any mk5 with headlight washers comes with 5.5L tank too.
-
my standard golf came with 5.5 litre bottle

hi,
i have retrofitted some angel eye projector headlights to my 2004 tdi 2.0 GT and would like to fit some HID xenons to finish it off.
i know under the new 2012 MOT regulations headlamp washers and autolevellers are required to be legal.
does anyone know if someone retrofits these ?
i think its abit above me to do it
thanks
-
I have, as have several others
maybe you should put where you are

Hi
That would be a good start. I am in Bromsgrove Worcestershire but can travel if required
i can see your in norfolk - about 2.5 hours each way which i can do.
Would be interested in supply and fit or fit only as I could source parts from eBay and vw
Many thanks
Ant
-
hi are the lift cylinders (jets) the same for the gti and the gt sport bumper also the bumper moldings cheers
-
Jets are the same I believe
Moulding depends on the age of your GT sport and what bumper it has
-
its a 57 bumper same as gti one with all black down middle
-
Then it will be the same.
-
Where does the loom run to?? (im interested in doing this retro fit too!)
-
It runs to the CECM under the steering wheel
-
How do i get it up there???
-
I went through one of the grommets above the dash at the back, but theres various grommets you can go through to get it into the car.
-
how long is the loom then??? I used the main p/s gromit to get my power cable through for my amp - that one useable?
-
The loom isnt long enough without extension to reach the CECM from the passenger side - the ones supplied by kufatec are designed for left hand drive cars and they arent willing to make right hand drive ones, so its either find another grommet like I did, or extend the loom appropriately after you are through the p/s grommet that you have already used.

alex that list of parts by boodger is that the full lot or is there any other bits mate
-
Great! I've got so much to do in the next 4 weeks anyway - I may leave this until the summer!

Its a reasonably simple install - just takes time to get it all in place and working.
-
My parents garage looks like an abandoned VW dealers the number or parts that are sitting there awaiting a weekend that i'm off to fit them all - because im moving house on the 28th and i've kind of said to the mrs I wont do any more work on the car until we are fully settled in the new place. So i'm doing everything I want to the car before the 28th March!
-
Love it! :jumping:

Fitting headlamp washer loom this morning...yellow wire to cecm, red to back of relay and purple to the cluster, brown with eye terminal for earth..
Anyone have an answer to where the grey wire from back of relay goes???
Installation just says to fuse box but nowhere in particular
