Finally got the Eddie's replacement ordered yesterday and will be with me in 10 weeks fingers crossed.. Will be gutted to see the old girl go after 3 (eventfull ) years in her and many new friends made because of it :happy2:
The car has been pretty much faultless over the 75+k it's done (especially considering it's been modded the whole time :surprised:) and as well as being stupidly quick (for a family hatch), it's been a perfect working partner when cruising the motorways of England and constantly returning 30+mpg figures.
So what is it going to be replaced with? :jumping: I'll give you a clue.. It's German, RWD and some fat bird has sat in the middle of it... :signLOL:
Oh and it'll look like this... (Just for you Mat  )
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg153.imageshack.us%2Fimg153%2F5733%2F3398768490310b785664.jpg&hash=64d8ffda5c1fdc14be3c659b09048eb0aa0825fc) (http://img153.imageshack.us/i/3398768490310b785664.jpg/)
Albeit with black rims of course..
With me now going for a brand spanker, i've not been abe to go with much spec unfortunately :sad1:, but I hope it'll be worth it.
Gone for Alpine White 135i M Sport, with DCT (Same as DSG) box, Xenons, and phone prep. With the addition the BMW Performance Black kidney grills and Carbon fibre spoiler and wheels to be done black pronto. Will obviously put some pics up as soon as I get my hands on her.
It was a close call between this and the S3, but I just fancied a change and feel the S3 will be to similar to the ED30, but less involving. Plus I have always had an itch for the BM and I like the fact they are very rare. With the fact that my best mate has a S3 and there being a 4-6 month wait for a new build, it was just the final push I needed to be fair..
As for the ED30, she will be going back to stock and bits will be available to all the vultures once the have been removed. Although my mate has first dibs for his Cupra.
But there will be:-
EVOMS Intake
VWR Milltek TBE
Autotech Pump internals
Gloss Black TD Pro Race 1.2's
Open Front Grills
and maybe a few other bits...
So boys, look for me in a ditch near you soon.. :driver: :signLOL:
-
Congrats Ben :happy2: good luck in the snow. Wouldn't mind some carbon bits if u sell any!
-
Very nice Ben!
What are the modding plans for the beemer tho? :happy2:
-

Cheers Dom.. Don't have any carbon bits for the Golf mate (see Neil M for that ). The BM will be wearing some CF though
-
Congrats :congrats: Looks nice. Should have some fun with RWD system
PM me a price for the TD's, I may have them off you :drinking:

you know how i feel about these :notworthy: congrats!!! i so want one
-
Thought you had a wedding to pay for dude???
New motor looks nice, as you no doubt know they can be bad in the snow, but when in all other weather conditions they are great, and feel so well made and comfortable when inside.
And as I am one of the vultures, do you have a build thread so we can see what we can get our greasy mitts on? :happy2:
-
You've made a good choice with the BMW, great cars, and just as involved as you are in the GTI, albeit RWD :driver:
Be really good if you could pop in here after a while and let us know how you get on with it, i have been looking at the second hand prices of these falling and am in two minds as to stay with Edition 30 or go BMW (diesel :ashamed:)
Enjoy the new car mate, love the edge the performance pack adds!
Echo the vultures comments aswell! :popcornsoda:

I am fortunate enough to have this as my company car mate, so wedding can still go ahead..
As for a build thread, I don't have one as such, but the bit listed are what will be available...
Evoms is 4 months old
Autotech is 7-8 months old
Wheels have been on the car for 18 months (were removed when I was off the road)
TBE is again 7-8 months old (had a GTI Milly first time round, so not to be confused with that).
Grills are 4 months old.
I will put them all in the for sale section once my mate has confirmed what he definately wants..

Would love to hear your feedback Neil, especially with you having been in the 335i for the past 6 months+.. I assume you have the DCT also? What's your thoughts (compared with DSG)?
I did want the Coral red leather interior, but I was pushing my luck with the car in the first place and had to prioritise what few options I had to be fair (DCT and Xenons were a must for starters)..
Regards the BMW Performance parts, are these the ones I should be looking at?

Is the new single turbo (twin scroll) version as tuneable as the previous twin turbo engine??
As it turns out, the old N54 twin turbo engine is a more tunable engine if you are wanting to go 400+bhp (compared with the N55 single turbo unit). But in my case, I will be going no further than mapping with this motor (which produce the same figures at Stage 1) and will not be going to chase the top end figures that are achievable on the standard blower this time (promise )..
Worst comes to worst, I may dabble in some DP's , but won't be going bonkers with the limits, that's for sure..

Looks awesome, have you gone for the performance wheels in black then? I've only ever seen them in the polished finish and wasn't keen so the black will look wicked
I have been thinking about getting the new performance steering wheel if you've seen it? very tempted, they are around 500 but look soooo good! might be worth seeing if you can get a deal while buying new :happy2:
-
No mate, having standard rims (same as yours), just couldn't find a pic of one with standard black rims and spoiler at the time..
Steering wheel is mint, yeah. Just with the mileage I do it would look a right mess after a while IMO..
-
Nice "Hedgehunter" there Ben :congrats:
About time you took the plunge. Just don't go racing any M3's this time around
-
They look like the same BMW Performance parts Ben, I got my bits here:
http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/owner/accessories_enquiry/subhome/?cat=performance&product=aerodynamics
Mine is DCT, needs to be in Sport to get close to a mapped DSG, I still find I've got to paddle down a couple of gears manually when you floor it as its a bit slow to kick down in Auto, but changes up lightning quick with a nice crack. Does make you realise how good the little old DSG box is in full Auto.
It has a launch control but wont let you use it again 'until you have travelled a certain distance' havent found out what that is yet but its defiantly more than 1/4 mile :ashamed:
On paper the BM and the Edition 30 are about the same (pre strip out) but I know what I'd rather be in when you get to some corners, the 335i is a bit of a lard arse and you couldn't call it nimble, I'm sure the 135 would be alot more light on its feet.
The Straight 6 is properly addictive, sounds great and nice low down pull, never had a go of the old proper Twin Turbo, but I cant really say there's any lag, its not really fair to compare it to the Golf as its a bit hard core now.
I've done 12k in the BM and can easily get mid 30 mpg on a run, I still dont need to change the rear tyres but will try PS3's as the run flats have got better but are still sh*t.
I've looked at the BMW Performance engine tuning kit, (won't effect the warranty) gives additional Rad, air intake, fan & software = extra 50Nm and 15kW (dont know what that is in Hp). She deserves a birthday present in May :happy2:
Enjoy Ben
Edit: 15kW = 20Hp

I think you have deffo made the right choice

It be good to see what the equivalent stage 2 135i will do on the 30-130 day if you do it again next year as well
-

I will no doubt get it mapped/tuning box (just to up the MPG on runs if anything else ), but won't be going down the same route as the Golf in regards to Intake/Pump/Exhaust. So it won't be in the same state of tune as the Golf, but will produce slightly better figures power wise.
Due to the BM being a fair bit heavier, I won't imagine it to be able to touch the Golf from say 30-100, but after that the BM will start to romp on no doubt..
I'm sure we will soon see..

Sounds promising Neil (especially the MPG), cheers for that mate.. :happy2:
I have heard about the BMW Performance upgrade, and seems like a nice bit of kit (no doubt it'll be a boat load of cash though :surprised:). Think the map is a mild one compared to others, but at least it's warranty approaved.
Think i'll be opting for the JB4 plug in and play kit after some research (when it's released for the N55 of course). My mate has had the JB upgardes on both of his 135i's and has been well impressed. Seems the latest one gives 80bhp and the wheels with no other hardware :surprised:. Plus with it being a plug in (15 min install) it's ideal for delaer visits too..
Some cool litlle features with it too. Fuel gauge can be used as a boost gauge when over 80% throttle is applied, diagnostics, shift lights and loads more. All done through the steering wheel controls and speedo/rev counter..

Nice results Neil :happy2: These engines seem to really be able to give great results mpg wise. Especially considering it's a blown 3.0 6 pot.. :surprised:
They get even better when mapped.. This is the result of a mapped N55 135i on a 4 hour journey home sat between 70-75mph on cruise..
