Title: HTC Screen Issue
Post by: rdfcpete on February 12, 2011, 07:39:49 pm
Ended up using my HTC Wildfire just after I'd been writing on the white board at work in a meeting, where I'd got marker ink on my thumb/fingers.

I stupidly and unfortunately added a calendar event on the phone shortly after and got ink on the screen. No issue I thought, so got home and tried a Johnson + Johnson wet wipe on it, but the mark didn't come out. It looks like it's quite deep into the screen.

I turned it all off, got a soft old dish towel and tried rubbing it out with some neat alcohol (the domestic stuff) but this hasn't worked either.
It looks like its pixel damage now, a bit like when you get those very small thunder fly things in picture frames and similar. It doesn't show up on black/dark backgrounds too well, but very evident on lighter contrast and colours.

The marks are as below;

Do I need a new screen now?
Any other 'removal' or drying techniques that might work, perhaps the boiler room for a night with the fascia off or is it beyond that?

Thanks.

Have you got a warranty?

Plead ignorance and say its just gone like that. Not sure what else you could do apart from replace the screen.

Thats screen damage. Pleading ignorance may work for warranty, but HTC are very hot on things like that

Eep, alcohol on a capacitive touchscreen  :scared:

Best to go to HTC with that one...

Never seen anything like that before  :scared: I don't know how ink would penetrate the coating though.....still its better than having a resistive touch screen. Best claim it on insurance if you have it  :fighting2:

I don't, that'd be wise in hindsight!

Would HTC support me in a replacement without warranty or insurance though?

I know, I know...  :scared: But a new screen is around £30 from eBay so it was worth a shot although the alcohol failed miserably.

It's bizarre, I know. I've a contact at Vodafone so it shouldn't be an issue at all replacing tbh. Just thought I'd seek advice from you lot to see if you've had a similar thing and if there was a get out of jail free card with it  :happy2:

Cheers all.

Thanks for all the little pointers  :happy2:

Happy ending: Got the phone back today with a nice brand new screen courtesy of HTC, courtesy of Voda  :jumpmove:
