Post by: Top Cat on February 17, 2011, 03:24:47 pm: Ok chaps, it's that time of year again. We are planning a trip to the ring in May, stopping over in Belgium, for one night on the way. :driver:

We are travelling over there on the Chunnel on the morning of 13th May, staying at a cheap hotel in Kent the night before. Probably taking in, a bit of a tour on the way to Belgium that night, Last time we went to Belgium we had a great night out.
Then onto the ring on the 14th, probably staying at Eddies again, ( not confirmed yet ) we plan to stay there for 3 night's as the ring is open half day on the Monday ( hopefully quieter that morning ) Then travel back on the Tuesday the 17th.
It wont be cheap to do it like this, as there is lots of ways to do this trip a lot cheaper, IE ferry and a night or 2 less but it's planned how we like it, for those on the list to go so far.
it is understandable a few might want to come, but not with this itinerary, so anyone who wants to travel in their own way, and meet us there perhaps, is all good. :jumping:

Been waiting to see how many more want to come before booking Eddies, as there is a variety of rooms available. But we have just started booking the other rooms and chunnel, i will PM you all the links tomorrow Ed, for the Belgium night, the Ashford stop over and the chunnel times. :happy2:

Including fuel, accommodation, tunnel fares and a conservative couple of laps per day you'll be looking at a minimum of about 400 - 600 quid, depending what you drive. That's not taking into account insurance etc and including one night stay in England.

Depending on how many laps you the fuel alone will be a few hundred. Your fuel figures round the ring should be about 9 or 10 miles a gallon, it works out about quarter of a tank per lap. :laugh:

I've never done a cheap one that's for sure!!

Also this might just be me, but I've never had a trip which didn't feature the need for oil, brake pads, a clutch or something.

I've never done a cheap one that's for sure!!

Also this might just be me, but I've never had a trip which didn't feature the need for oil, brake pads, a clutch or something.

Your not wrong! Last year we had two members SteveP and QD as full time mechanics :laugh: my brakes discs and pads were contaminated so we had to jack the car and sand them in drive. :driver:
JoesGTI was falling to bits pieces falling off everywhere. And Tom blew his almost brand new S3 up. :laugh: Marky Mark had to leave his car halfway there, and i am sure i will have missed a few incident's as well. :signLOL:

The NSF Wheel Bearing
Both Front Brake Pads turned to glass
Both Front Brake Disks warped
The diff started leaking oil (not too bad)
Clutch started slipping when hot/at low speeds (not too bad)
Gearbox - broke 4th gear + gearstick started popping out
The undertray came off on the entry ramp and proceeded to make a disconcerting 'tap, tap tap' at anything below about 50mph for a full lap
Something happened to one of the rear suspension arms, but the German mechanic who got me back on the Ring for a third day said it was 'OK for today, but tomorrow you go home!'....

Hence, I traded it in for the Porsche lol.

Why did they do it in the first place the Ring is there for the track not for people to go meandering about in the middle on foot :scared:

I'd love to do this but just too much on with work,

Forza and Gran Turismo games helped me to at least know which way the next bend was going (done thousands of laps on the games machines in total and around 35 laps actually at the ring)

1st lap ever ended up as 9'10" B to G. :laugh:

Hopefully I'll be going again soon in something VAG :happy2:

In the meantime - enjoy the TF all you lucky forumites who are going :drinking:
