Think the dock is designed to take the 3g version with the rolled edges, whereas the iPhone 4 has the flat bottom,
If you did want to remove it then it is a pretty easy swap for the cd changer. Or you could move the charger/connector into the glovebox.

The old still ipod armrest will only work with much older ipods 2nd gen I think, the charging is via firewire which was dropped when they introduced the touch and 2nd gen nano.  If working it only acts as a cd changer for the ipod first 6 playlists so has limited functionality.

The cabling is exactly the same for the cd changer and the swop will take you about 5 minutes!

Hi mjt,

I have the very same unit, Ipod dock in arm rest and an Iphone 4.  At first mine would not connect either,  tried it a couple of times fitting it into the dock but no response.  I had to keep pressing CD on the RDC300 unit for a while until it connected after a minute or so    Now its fine everytime i use it.
