Hey all..
My car has the factory xenons, but im considering dumping them for the halogens (if its worth it from a weight saving point of view)
Does anyone know the comparative weight?
Thanks
Jonny

Lol.. Let me find out how much difference there is and ill let you know what im thinking.. I love the Xenons to be fair but I heard that they are 5kg more per unit than the halogen if thats true then I think they have to go..

fair point if they are 5kg per unit difference that seems a lot :surprised:
-
The standard units are stupidly light, so there would be weight to save.
Id say buy a set (£120 from ebay) store the xenons in the garage.
Also I might add ,I have the sh*tty standard lights, and although I agree they don't compare to xenons, lets not pretend the cars can't be driven in the dark because of it.
-
having retrofitted the xenon headlights myself, i really really dont remember there being anything near 5kg difference in the units.
sorry to be unable to quote figures, just from memory i dont remember them being much difference!
and 10kgs.....hmm.....i sh1t that much in the morning, dont get rid of the xenons, they look too cool! ;)

LOL.. Thanks mate. I thought it seemed a lot, im now thinking maybes 5kg for both? Anyways if thats the case I would rather keep the xenons and continue to blind oncoming cars

When I did the S3 intercooler jobbie, I removed the xenons and from memory, I don't think they were anywhere near 5kg in weight for a unit, let alone having a difference of 5kg with standard halogen units... If the halogens are feather light then I could see a 1.5 to 2kg difference per unit which is where your 5kg estimate comes from. I'd stick with the Xenons.
I'm going on a diet to shed weight - reckon I can get a 30kg saving right there
