I'm looking to change my Clutch and, I was wondering which people have had experience with and, which to go for?
Cheers :happy2:
Phil

am pretty sure awesome gti and a robert (one of chap on here) said the Helix was better, but am sure plenty of people who have the sachs may feel different...
i need to ask the same question and carry it further by asking which is best LSD to go with one of the above clutches...
-
I'm also wanting to know the same about the LSD! And, where I could buy one from!!??

Backdraft in Milton Keynes will do it, PDT said they dont have time for work like this at present but as will be expending they may do at some point in the future. presume JKM, Jabba etc will be keen too...
-
No problems with the Sachs clutch here and I believe it is cheaper than the Helix.
There is quite a bit on this topic if you do a search.
-
I have used, fitted, bought, sold, driven both helix and sachs and no problems with either product. Most of our high powered stg3+ diesel cars we build/map use Helix.
-
I haven't had the same experiencevolume as PDT. I've had one sachs with SMF fitted with didn't perform to expectation.
After trying the Helix pedalfeel i have opted for that the second time around, due to it being lighter to use in everyday use. just my 2 pees

Cheers, Danish! Still doing research and, seeing which people are rating but, so far Helix is more popular :happy2:
-
A friend of mine told me about www.clutchmasters.com . they have an extensive range for the mk 5 GTI
-
Just to throw another option out there, I have a SPEC clutch on mine and it's been great! One thing I would say is regardless of which clutch you go for, if you are planning on changing the flywheel at the same time I would recommended avoiding going with a single mass flywheel! Changing to a single mass is my biggest regret due to the clutch chatter that comes from single mass flywheel, I will be changing back to a duel mass at some point in the future!
-
isnt the GTI's standard clutch made by sachs.... pretty sure it is?..... FIFTH GEAR say so.....
-
later GTI's are Sachs, earlier ones are Luk

any more research on this topic phil?
Quaife diff definately for me but am still unsure as to Sachs or Helix and SMF or DMF
-
sach paddle clutch kit works perfect with my quaife diff very nice to drive
-
I think I may go for a Sachs Clutch kit and run it on the standard DMF!! Not 100% but, 70% certain this is the route I'm taking :happy2:
-
Hi Guys!
I have decided to go for the Sachs Clutch in the end! Does anyone know of a cheap place to get them from?

If you as you wrote in the previous reply opted for the Sachs uprated but with the DMF i think you will be happy as it's the best of both worlds :drinking:
Remember to keep us informed on how you find it, as not many has opted for this solution.
A friend of mine has the same setup fitted to his A4 2,0 TFSI yesterday and his initial impression is the pedal feel is lighter than stock
-
Sweet! I've stuck with the DMF (Stock) and should have it on tomorrow!!
-
The Sachs setup is certainly not lighter than stock, that would defeat the point as the reason for O.E slip is mostly due too poor spring clamping pressure AFAIK.

That the impression he gets
-
To be fair you do get used to it and they do feel quite stock to the owner but in heavy traffic it does start to put a little strain on the leg. Try another car and the clutch feels like sponge in comparison. I love mine and am certainly pleased I got an updated clutch.
-
I've been told its harder than OE but, feels better than the Helix!! So thats what I'm gonna go for :happy2:
-
i have been corresponding with Daniel Day at ZF today and if you have any questions regarding the Sachs clutch solutions he will be able to assist, top bloke :congrats:
-
Cheers, Danish!! I ordered my Clutch from Ed @ APS.. Top Bloke :happy2:!! He did me the Clutch kit for £500 inc VAT and P&P!! Cheaper than JKM, Awesome and AMD! :happy2:
-
Keep us posted as im going to be getting a quaife diff in the future and would appreciate your feedback on impressions once fitted compaired to stock.
The sachs kit you have been supplied should be a 787 and a 502?
-
I'm looking to get a Diff soon, too! Been looking at the ones that Awesomre sell and also the VWR one!

Hello mate,
I did go for the Sachs with the OEM DMF. It's holding up fine but, think I'm gonna go for a south bend clutch and flywheel package soon!
-
How come your thinking of changing? I'm running stage1 remap, have no real aspirations to get any more power and similarly don't intend on ragging the car to within an inch of its life So would the Sachs and oem DMF be suitable?
-
That set up would be perfect for what your intending! I'm looking to get more power so need something that's more capable than the Sachs and oem flywheel!

I have the Helix on my stage2+ ed30.
It does have a higher torque limit that the Sachs equivalent but I'm sure both are more than up to the job.
Price wise, the helix when I had mine fitted 2 years ago was cheaper than the Sachs but things change.
I've not driven a similar Sachs equipped car but the Helix has perfect road manners being only marginally stiffer than standard but not in any way a cause for any fatigue.
