Title: Trip to Silverstone Ferrari Thrill............ Conclusion
Post by: Saint Steve on February 25, 2011, 05:52:06 pm
Absolute Pants.....

I am so glad that absolutely everything was paid for, including my fuel up and back to silverstone.

The Ferrari thrill would of cost circa £120+ if i was a buying punter, which in all gave just 5 minutes actual driving time. Over the 2 hours that was stated in visit time.

You 1st of all have 26 minute debrief about the cuircut, health and safety, race line understanding, and then your shunted off down to the track.

Helmets on and then out to the car, for 3 ....yes 3 laps of the southern section of the track. A lap in just over 1 munute.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs264%2Fphilmcavity%2FSilverstoneLetdown001.jpg&hash=6c5fdb3872583b551921dbc450b341c49bc9e6a1)

The car was the Ferrari 360 modena, and have to say for the 1st time, a paddle shift car was absolute sh*te!. The gear change was head jerking horendous ,

speed on the straights was pretty much the same compared to my Eddy. I couldnt get comfy at all, mainly because im 6ft 3 and that i felt cramped like a sardine, and my

head and helmet where against the roof when sat inside the car.

So after my 4 mins 30secs of driving semi excitement, i thought ok , i ask for a copy of a video of my trip round or perhaps a photo, which they were taking as i was driving .

They wanted £25 for a single 10 inch by 6 inch picture, or £35 for the video of in-car and ahead facing footage, but would have to pay a further £5 to have it put on a

memory stick to take it home     :fighting:

Total waste of money , didnt even bother to go collect my Blue peter badge certificate after, just got in the van and headed back home  :sad1:

If youre ever thinking of buying somebody one of these "experiances" is isnt much value for money.

Silverstone itself at the moment, looks like a building site, they are completely rebuilding it, including a brand new Main straight main building and F1 pit area.

Seeing how much is left, is it going to be in time for the F1 race this season?.. Will be tight. :surprised:

Sorry for the short sentances with the way this was wrote

Steve

You know what, when you originally posted I was going to post but thought not, allow you to go nuetrally thinking.

I am so pleased you have just posted this, because I went on the Silverstone Experience (the half day) "Ferrari eXperience" honest to god again 2 1/2 laps in the 360, i had the same problem being cramped etc.

just as you start to get into the swing of it ! "pull into the pits now" you f*cking what mate ? what sort of an experience was that !

i complained and got half the £260 back that my family paid for a birthday present !

Honest to god a joke, rip off, complete nightmare.

...................................................................

and breath

...............................................

honestly that "ferrari experience" thing wound me up so much !

I'd recommend going to Thruxton instead Steve if you wanted to do another experience. Tad expensive but i thoroughly enjoyed the Supecar experience few years back. Might even go again to try the 458 italia.

Although not quite the same I would recommend the 1 hour AMG experience at Mercedes Benz World.

You get to drive the car for an hour with an instructor telling you to go faster all the time.  :driver:

Sorry to hear it was disappointing Steve.

I did the Itailian Supercar experience at Thruxton a couple of years ago, it was good, as British Lion says you just get into the swing of things and your back in the pits :sad1:

Hedge...even on the 1 hour experience do you get to use the handling circuit AND wet skid circle?? Currently £150 and if you're in the car for the full 60mins then that's a bit of a bargain! Certainly enjoyed the 5 passenger laps i had in Dec when i went there for the PH Sunday Service.  :happy2:

Yep the full playground except the off-road section. You can also do the SLS experience.

It's good if a little dear but 60 mins caning an E63 AMG has to be worth it.....

A video clip of someone else doing the same experiance.... he was alot slower then me i must say, my instructor asked what car is my daily drive, and i told him, so perhaps thats why was only telling me about the circuit and not how to opperate the car

&feature=related

As this guy says, its over too soon, and also shows in the background, whats being done to silverstone and its new layout.

They wanted £40 for a copy of my video  :fighting:.. complete rip off

.
How very disappointing :sad1: It sounds like a complete rip-off - How can we milk the customers at every single opportunity?

Ferrari's have always been cramped - Italian stallions are generally much smaller than we are. But it's a shame they haven't got the paddleshift system right - I wonder if the very latest Ferrari's are better.

Did you enjoy the sound though, Steve?

Sorry to hear about the disappointment Steve. I've always wanted to go on one of these things but only if it's worth it. Sounds like Ferrari isn't.

The AMG experience at MBW on the other hand does sound rather appetising.  :driver:

They were introuced around 10 years ago those modena's so not surprising the paddle shift been poor in comparisson to dsg, i am sure the new box's on the 458 are greatly improved  :happy2:

As for track time that is a bit of a con, you should get yourself on a half day at goodwood in the golf, very civilised track day with strict overtaking rules and marshalling with tuition, helmet and afternoon tea included  :rolleye:

I drove the 430 with the F1 box at Thruxton and it was fantastic! You should try the Aston Martin auto box...worse than the windscreen head butting system in the Smart!!!

Sorry to hear you had a bum time steve, But I cant say i'm surprised. I drove a 360 around an short track track (2 hair pins and 2 chicanes) and i thought it was crap.... a childhood dream ruined in 5 minutes!  :sad1:

I have a 360 in at work for a load of new bits and they are pants.  Horrible to drive and horrible seats.

5 Mins of driving is poor.  I did the single seater thing at Silverstone and thought that 20 mins of driving wasnt great.
