Hi all,
After reading Markymarks post about another beloved motor being taken it has seriously made me think about taking action and looking into a tracker. I have wanted one for a while, not so much to get my car back as I would have no emotional attachment after it has been stolen, but would like to help see where these people are taking them, or maybe even catch them with it.
I have heard that having a tracker is a good plus point with insurance companies, but was wondering which companies do the best ones and the price.
Possibly once a good manufacturer is found then proposing a group buy and discount on some.
Am sure it could be good publicity for the company, and also a great use of our cash.

I'm listening :happy2:
-
invest in revo and switch then shut the engine off with the switch  stops it running
-
i will also be interested in buying tracker if there a good price :happy2:
I think it also helps bring insurance cost down ?

I think Cobra Trak are the recognised VAG offering.
Not my cup of tea to be honest, if my motor goes then I don't want it back once the scum have finished with it.
-
+1. Would you want your car back after some thief has ragged it to within a whisker of its limit, done untold damage to engine, overstressed the components, god knows what else, and put 40k miles on the clock?
That's what put me off a tracker - would I want the car returned?
-
TT did a great thread about trackers and was singing the praises about one kind, think it was the name sake TRACKER, He was saying it can tell if if the car has been stolen even if you havn't reported it.

I had a tracker on my old A3 but never bothered activating it for this very reason, i'll just take my chances with return to invoice gap protection :happy2:

And cheaper too

its something i would consider. what other options could you have to reduce the insurance?
What Category are the std vag alarm systems?

yup god knows why i did both options on the R! idiot.

I don't think insurance companies give great discounts for them and last time I checked the annual cost of the tracker outweighed the reduction in premium.

You buy a tracker yourself which works off a simcard

Clifford blackjack system... 300 yds away thats all they will get away then car comes to a halt and all he'll breaks loose .... Sorted :happy2:
-
Ive got a Tracker installed in my ED30.
Cost to activate it for a year.... £160+ some extra random charges
Reduction to insurance premium... £0
And for that reason, i didnt bother activating it.

But a ball ache to turn off every time you get in, a better option is something that uses a separate transponder , I.e they can still Nick your keys, get in and drive off but if no transponder is present the car dies down the road, Sempal used to do a card system but not sure if they still do it, Autowatch do a hidden switch which is a compromise I guess.

I had a Trackstar on my WRX a few years ago cost c£300 - it was an insurance requirement. It detects movement without the engine being started - I once rolled it into the garage and I got a call half an hour later from them saying my car may have been stolen  one nice feature was that it beeped when approaching speed cameras if you were travelling over the speed limit.
As others have said, I would not buy one unless forced to as I wouldn't want my GTI back if it got nicked......

Exactly the same as me mate, RAC Trackstar fitted to the Scooby. Good system but expensive.
