You could always approach JKM and ask to book a date and then run/arrange it yourself
Title: Re: Any Plans for a RR JKM meet ?

.
JKM tell me they currently have April 16th and May 7th free for a dyno day - Both Saturday mornings as usual. Ideally they need 25 people to allow for some last minute drop outs and extras.

I'd be up for April 16th - Anyone else? If a list gets going I'll start a new thread and I'll organise it as I have done before.

Bourbon biscuits but no Lemon Bourbon cake guaranteed!

Undo the screw holding it to the bracket so you can swivel it to get access to the other 3.
Unscrew and also remove electrical connector.
Check rubber and or replace with new Rev D DV.  :happy2:

Title: Re: JKM RR April 16th come get your name down in here :)
Post by: Hedge on March 30, 2011, 01:30:09 pm
Will the Revo work with the manifold/cat combination?

My understanding of the Revo R32 map is that it makes the throttle hyper-sensitive which is less than ideal.

Suck it and see I guess. Hopefully the 30 day money back deal will still apply.

well from what i read theres a stage 2 which has been developed with the manifods/cats, but like you say im hoping the 30 day grace period is still valid if not ive got a independent company who said they would adapt there normal r32 map to suit me

can i just add the definition of Voyeurism for the guys who have been branded as sexual spies

From wikipedia (checked other sources and they confirm as well

Quote
In clinical psychology, voyeurism is the sexual interest in or practice of spying on people engaged in intimate behaviors, such as undressing, sexual activity, or other activity usually considered to be of a private nature

Since your Voyeurs(sexual spies) at a car gathering can i assume that  your doggers??

....Apparently they have a poor record for actually turning up after putting their name on the list. We all have to back out last minute sometimes, but usually for good reason.

They organised a dyno day at SRR, came on here for extra numbers and then only 2 of the R owners turned up on the day.

Please add my name to the list. I'd also like to add a second car, a Clio 182 Cup (is that allowed?) with a "hope to make it, but can't be sure this far in advance due to work pressures".

By the way, I don't know if I'm typical, but this is the first time I've spotted this thread, as I don't tend to scan the meets area of the forum; might explain the lower than ideal number of runners?

Numbers are still a bit low? I'll ask some friends and see if they fancy running their cars - potentially a GT3-RS and a Nissan S15.

Hi Guys,

RWD cars are fine but just a quick reminder we cannot run 4WD cars.
We will not be running any 4WD cars, even those VAG cars that the haldex can be disconnected on. The reasult is far to inconsistent on a 2WD dyno.

See you all in a few weeks

....I've spoken to Kate @ JKM and we'll decide on Friday 10th so that it gets the best chance of happening.

What's needed is a minimum of 10 definites - At the moment we have 8 definites and 2 subject to work.

It's a fact of life that people can/will/have to drop out at last minute. That's why i always put work dependant. Some of us just can't confirm till last minute.com.

I'm still a certainty, and my brother is very very likely - he believes he can attend and will do so unless something out of the blue happens at work.

Just to make it clear, his car is a lightly modded Clio 182, so not a "proper" entry, if you like. My friend withthe GT3-RS sadly can't attend, which is a shame, as that would have been hilarious to hear on the rollers.

Oh, and I'm Wimborne way, my brother Blandford, so A31...

Do you know a place then? I'm always up for new eateries.

Otherwise The Churchillian at Portchester nearby is quite good (pub with sit down food) but best to book if a lot of us.

What's the food like at Rownhams? Full English "from £5.99"...

By the time you've added a coffee to that and specc'd it up to something worth dirty some cutlery for you'll need to take some KY with you.

I was born in Buckinghamshire, hactually!

Will we be done by lunchtime then? I quite fancied a steak at the Red Shoot in (I think) Linley. Haven't been there for a while, but it was always good. They bring it out still sizzling on a skillet with lashings of garlic butter.

That's the one. Linwood, not Linley. It doesn't have a massive car park is my only concern (depending on numbers going), but it looks as though food is served all day on a Saturday. This is good, as it means we can arrive any time and get some nosebag!  :happy2:

....That's normal at JKM - They need to give a safety brief to everyone to comply with insurances and also know which cars are attending so they can establish an order on the rollers. Any RWD will go on the dyno last for example. They usually try and group types of cars and an unmodified one first if there is one.

I've been to many JKM dyno sessions and it's worth the effort of earliness.  :happy2:

Also, are we going in order of numbers listed....eg. I'll be going 11th on the RR

....No, the order will be decided by JKM on the day. They usually display a list on the wall.

Hi All.

Please can you all put the make and model of the car you will be running next to your name so we can arrange the running order for Saturday morning please

Regarding timescales if we run apprpox 15 cars then this should be completed by approx 12 noon at the latest.  Depending on numbers this may even be sooner so please ensure you all arrive promptly and are ready for 9am.

See you all Saturday
Regards
Kate

I do believe JKM would prefer cash just because it's far quicker than 15 herberts turning up with a card wanting to pay.

I'm lazy, and that means I never take my VCDS lead out of my car. If anyone has issues they(hopefully not me!) were previously unaware of, there's the option of going for a spin up the road to log the data.

@ Alex:

Please PM me your mobile in case I'm held up by traffic on my way to you (unlikely, but).

And is the plan to leave yours at 7:20am latest?

Hopefully we're not doing lots of pickup stops for others on the way because it could easily make us late at JKM.

Will do robin, and yes 7.20AM at the latest

For those that are meeting at mine, ensure you are there at 7.20 else we will go without you!

No other stops par meeting at rownhams, and departing at 8.10ish to get to JKM

....I hope some of you guys aren't going to be disappointed. It's just standing around outside in whatever weather and getting deafened and making sure your trousers aren't set on fire. But the plus side is the social and banter and interest in other folks' cars and, of course, the dyno results!  :jumpmove:

But be warned that such meets can sometimes lead to spending even more money on modding

Guys - really really sorry but I wont be able to make it tomorrow now

In short, insurance company have taken my payment twice by mistake and have wiped my bank account out. I cant afford a tank of fuel let alone a run on the rollers  :sad1: :sad1:

Will see you at the next one.

For those that were meeting at mine, my apologies. You can still meet outside and go from there if you wish though  :signLOL:

How long do you think the sessions will take, I'd like to put my car on the rollers as I'm not as yet overjoyed with the twintercooler used with Revo 2, seems a little flat in the midband. I have just spent £270 on plugs and 4 new coil packs and hoped it would be 100%

I need to be back in Herts by early afternoon !

I think everyone had a great day in spite of occasional showers. When I left this morning my internet router was down and techsupport on the phone couldn't solve it yesterday and it was bumped up a level too. However, while I was at JKM, my daughter Sky at home 'fixed' it! She remembered all the settings we'd been discussing with techsupport! Not bad for an art student!  :notworthy: So far, so good....

Hopefully I'll be able to post my plots soon......

Here you go

Revos stage 2 mild setting 6,5,9 Miltek TBE, K&N panel, no intake, twintercooler. Interested in any thoughts as to what might be happening at the top end. JKM said it should pull to the red line and not tail off. Looking at other graphs they don't die at 6,000

Nice pics Creatz,

I was not originally that happy about my result, but I've looked at the old dyno result from Dastek (below) and i appear to have a bit more torque than there run but where the graph gets to 252 bhp on Dastek it almost appears to drop on today's run :(.

but also ambient temps were 5c higher.

Really love the amount of extra torque gained from the Revo.

today...

Hmm, strange how your torque plateaus around 2800 rpm then start to rise thereafter and this behaviour isn't mirrored in your bhp curve.

I would also say C2RS's car has a bit of an issue there (Pirelli isn't it)....the K04 naturally makes its peak power at 6200rpm or above when remapped. Fact yours hit it at 5700 and stopped suggests something is not quite right (not enough air, boost leak, fuelling issues). S2 with no proper intake doesn't help matters tho.

might be good to find out what boost it's asking for at top of rev range.

of course JKM could have done a mis match of roller speed vs engine speed when setting up (but Jim takes great care setting up the car on the roller before doing the power run so bit unlikely)

curve other wise looks ok to me  :happy2:

As I said earlier today.

Do you want a map that makes your car faster or do you want a map that gives you headline figures?

It's ok to have 10 million lbft or torque but if the first time you try and use them you spin the wheels then you can only realistically use about half of them.
Not something I am often heard saying but bigger is not always better.

The lines look to cross at around 5250 so speed / rpm appears fine.

there's not much wrong with bluefin on a Ed30, shame either myself or Alex Perkins couldn't make it yesterday, as both our cars at stage 2 arent exactly slow..

Mine ran stage 1 bluefin at 284.6bhp, and still unknown at stage 2, but the bum dyno thinks it's hitting the 300 barrier.

Not sure which car you have jussa? Ko3 or ko4..

As Hedge has said, power is useless without traction, so having Revo isn't always the best map to fork out for.

is it me or did JKM's rollers all run figures about 20bhp above normal readings?

Did someone say the rollers had a problem?

Carrera... I would say that its the intake holding your car back on the top end.

Thanks guys but looking at other graphs with ED30's at 6-7,000 they make over 260 hp before the limiter cuts in, plus the AFR is not an issue at 297 hp, something not quite right over 5,800 IMO ?

Not sure an air filter will solve, I am awaiting something that is quieter than the ITG's to be honest.

i asked they said it was fine,if there was something wrong that meant that Jussa stage 2+ was running at 232 then ?

as for the blue fin, the info i got was when it was put on a stock Gti not the ED30
20BHP Gain for £400 notes is not something i wanna pay out.
anyone else on bluefin stage 1 normal GTI ?

....The first car on the dyno was a completely standard unmodified K03 GTI and that made 217(?) IIRC. I'm not 100% sure but I think that Jim rechecked their dyno setup at that stage. My car was on next and the fact that JKM did an extra 3 runs (to check something else unrelated to this question) did cause everyone, including myself, to wonder what was happening.

At 269 bhp I was up 8 bhp from my previous best of 261 (up 10 bhp if you count the run of 271). My torque was also up to just over 300 ftlb and my curves were as smooth and sweet as ever.

When I got 261 last year it was immediately after installing the Forge Twintake but JKM reduced my Revo Boost to allow for the OEM fuel pump. The last dyno session (at JKM) had peaked at 253 but this was because I needed a new coilpack.

Was everyone's power up from their previous dyno session at JKM (those who weren't first-timers)?

I think I'll ask JKM if they'd like to post an overall comment on the day's results but we don't want to get into one of those never ending someone else's dyno's willy is bigger than yours etc debates!

Going for an aftermarket HPFP and upping my Revo settings would increase my power further, as would also going from Revo2 to 2+, but quite honestly I love the balance of my car as it is even if it's not the fastest and its state of tuning is so far proving to be very reliable (very much as a result of consistently using JKM for tuning and taking their advice). Sometimes when in the company of those tuned Ed30's I think I need more power to keep up but there's no point stretching things - My car is a keeper.

Personally I wasn't too surprised about my increase because the car had settled since its 261 previous best.

I wouldnt day they are out at all tbh if anything id have expected a few more Hp than 3hp as the forge intake was independantly dyno proven to show around 10hp gain on a standard car.

My car made 3 hp more than it did 2 weeks ago. I put that down to atmospherics and nothing else.

These events always bring out anomalies but that depends if you want to analyse something down to the nth degree or just accept the results at face value and move on. If your car made more then fair enough but if it made less then you probably need it looked at in more detail under better, more controlled conditions.

Speculating about such things will only give you heartburn and sleepless nights.

Guys,  it was great meeting you all yesterday and putting some names to faces  :drinking:
As I said, regardless of number chasing I can't believe that a stage 2+ car can be so behind in figures.
Look even at Robins car being just stage 2, no HPFP or intercooler and getting far better figures (with a toned down Revo map)........can only be down to the watered down map that AMD have given me  :fighting: :fighting:

oh im with dom on the nicest looking car for me on the day. Carreras was lovely car and i really love the pirelli interior. sweet car. Dom im sure you will be following me with the mods and let me know as and when as will see if i can sort you some good deals like i got on the intercooler. I dont think it will be too long before i start the ko4 upgrade.

As spoke about on the day we all have a limit to how far we will take our tuning. Sadly i have found rubbers very usefull in erasing the line and moving it haha :signLOL: :driver:

Dom, you need a new scanner  :signLOL:
Guys,  it was great meeting you all yesterday and putting some names to faces  :drinking:
As I said, regardless of number chasing I can't believe that a stage 2+ car can be so behind in figures.
Look even at Robins car being just stage 2, no HPFP or intercooler and getting far better figures (with a toned down Revo map)........can only be down to the watered down map that AMD have given me  :fighting: :fighting:
I just hope that Revo will sort me out at Inters

Before dismissing the map, have you had a vcds scan for stored engine fault codes? Not all stored fault codes (soft codes) are associated with a dashboard CEL.

Seeing that you have a 55 registration car, do you know if your low pressure fuel sensor on the hpfp has been replaced? Cars of that year had that sensor as an Achilles heel that often needed replacing. VW themselves have an internal recall on that part that would be replaced FOC if found on your car.
The most common symptom with that faulty sensor is a loss of power.

Great to meet a few more guys from the forum, thanks for the kind words about my car.

I have pretty much decided what to do with my car and engine tune. With stock Revo 2 on 6,5,9 it was sweet, seemed much crisper and quicker than it does now with the same map and the twintercooler. I will speak to REVO and TTRS for some thoughts, if I am not convinced that a remap, by REVO will sort if I am going to go back to exactly as it was before. This might be less powerful than the current set up (seems strong to 5,700 with over 300 lbft between 2,900 and 5,000) but simply ran sweeter and felt quicker.

If one trip brings the crisp responsive running back with inlet temp and better response in the hot weather great, if not then I have two options :

1. Go back to stock
2. Fit the THS intercooler

I like the idea of headroom and lower inlet temps, 300ish hp is more than enough for me and the chassis, so I am not tempted by 2+

See, I just reckon the settings need tweaking, B6 seems low... My money is on upping boost and adjusting timing to suit... But that's from my limited knowledge and personal feelings... Hope you do get it sorted as the rest of the car is spot on... ;-)

i admire your self control   :signLOL: im never quite happy and want more. I personally am unsure that will solve your problems. The twintercooler and ths both get good reviews so would be surprised if the difference between the them would be noticable. Like suggested maybe and intake would help and the settings adjusted on the timing which would give higher power towards the top of the rev range. Other than that have you have any logs done with vcds to check fuel, air temps etc?

Hi Bacillus,
My car is actually an 06, the 55 is a personal plate
Was there that same problem with the 06 cars?
I know that Lee (Apollo13) has had VCDS on my car numerous times, but not found any faults whatsoever other than the ones not worth mentioning, like issues with my cruise control or GPS losing signal etc.....
I left my car at AMD for the whole of Tuesday to see if there were any issues with it (As JK911 is stage 2 as well with an AMD map and has pretty much the same bhp & torque as me), so I can pretty much be sure there are no problems hardware wise, as AMD said it's running fine??

carerra worth noting that the map on the Pirelli is not the same as the Ed30 and has some recoding, ours was hitting peak power around 5,600 but had more torque (not dyno'd it recently to compare), after some logging at Revo its set up as B6 T5 F9 on Stage 1, just has a plug and fuel filter change (due to having to have fuel tank and lines drained) and much better

The AFR on Jussa's car is pretty rich.

The AMD graph comparison is interesting, as the Yeti made something like 150 on AMD's rollers, yet it made 173 yesterday at JKM, with no changes made between runs.

It did seem reading people's results and especially some that have run many times, got a near 10% higher then usual, also stock cars appeared to have been higher then normal bang on the money results.
Yet the skoda boys are happy.   ..  :innocent:
it's just a dyno lottery..

As Robin, and hedge have said, big numbers don't mean nothing, having a smooth and progressive torque curve is the ultimate to wish for, and it's more kind to the health of the car in general...... In terms of wear and tear.

Maybe the dyno was not calibrated correctly that day. Didn't RR say there was an issue with his run?

Guys,
Maybe the dyno wasn't calibrated correctly, but if thats the case then I'm even more doomed than ever as I got 30bhp less than expected, and everybody else got an extra 20bhp?????  That's a 50bhp swing, and I was the only person not happy out of the group with the results

The AFR on Jussa's car is pretty rich.

It's not that rich though!
In any case that won't be responsible for his low hp as the tfsi engine thrives on petrol, making a bit more hp as you richen the mixture.

just a thought, all the cars that claim to have run accurately, were new cars??

Would having lower tread on the front wheels cause differences in RR readings??

If all models of cars were strapped down the same, yet the newer cars ran nearer to their Pre claimed bhp..

Anyone with a a mk5 GTi running new tyres and what bhp did you get yesterday? Maybe tyres not gripping aswell.

I know Jim commented on my vreddestein tyres not getting enough heat in them causing issues on my 1st few runs before.

As long as there was no wheel slippage on the dyno then variation in thread depth would make no difference.

but would tyres not being up to temperature cause an issue Bacillus?

If the tyres weren't up to temp then they will have a slightly lower pressure. This should only have a minor effect when the dyno is trying to calculate the coast down losses to convert wheel hp to crank hp.

The above again assumes that no tyre slippage has occured on the dyno.

The dyno dynamics RR works on a default loss calc, there is no run down loss check. I enquired of JKM after everyone had gone, as I was curious to understand how they work out the losses on a DSG, which to my knowledge isn't meant to be turned at high speed in neutral.

Good news,
Just spoke to AMD and they're going to remove that map and Revo the car for me at the price difference, so should just be just over £100, I'm also going to have the pipercross venom removed at the same time and having an ITG fitted.
Will let you know the RR figures (before and after albeit AMD 1's) after the fitting and map.
I may take another drive down to JKM RR just to see the difference, unless somebody knows of a closer dyno dynamics roller in the South East?

Jussa, good news, move to a REVO map  :happy2:

REVO said the same as JKM the best inlets are EVOMs and ITG. Hmmmm a real 280 in the offing ?

I am at REVO this week so they can have a look at mine, my power at lower rpm is actually very strong looking at other cars figs it just dies at 5,700 ! It doesn't run right part throttle either.

I run low tyre pressures which will possibly lose as few hp (my fronts are 32.5-33psi cold).
