Thinking of getting an Audi S3 but do you think its worth swapping 08 gti with 21k miles for an 07 S3 with 50k miles? Full history plus 12 months warrenty with the extras it has it was £35k nearly 4 years ago, my golf was £24k 3 years ago. Probably going to cost me another £3k, which I dont mind, but do people thibk its worth it?
Any input would help!!!

Older car, double the miles, money on top....,
I'd keep the golf and spend the £3k on new toys

Keep the golf.
But then you are on the golfGTI forum!
Would suggest if you asked on the S£ forum they would say get the S3
If you are having to ask then don't change :happy2:

Kindov in the same boat myself, went to test drive an a3 tdi on Friday ... left with strong ideas about a 09 white S3 sportback instead ... decisions decisions.
One thing I was surprised at is how mean audi are with spec, auto lights and wipers an option on all a3's? Non heated leather? C'mon ...
They did offer me £9.5k without any haggling for my 05 plate with 55k miles which I thought was pretty good. Not sure if I'd get that privately.

Tear their hands off for that PX :happy2:

If you want an S3 get something a bit newer with less miles.

^^^^ Spot on! :happy2:
The bottom line is to test-drive back-to-back on the same road. I think you'll find the S3 more sure footed but far less fun, being not so tactile. It depends what you want from a car.

Heated seats are standard on the S3, not anything below though.

Yeah ... the TDI (S-Line) i had a test drive off had leather but not heated. I thought with leather you always got heat but obviously not. You certainly need it with leather in the winter for sure.

I was pleasantly surprised, told me the book value was 7 something, immaculate condition was just over £8k but they'd give me £9.5k. I think the fact its the end of the month helped... the guy was keen I keep the TDI over the weekend and buy it on Monday. Quite a difference to the VW dealer experience when I bought the GTI, the salesman barely gave me a 10 minute escorted test drive.
Was pleasantly surprised with the 2.0 TDI engine, and in many ways a fantastic car, but it didn't stir the soul in anyway whatsoever.

Well having looked at that S3 with that mileage, i thought about it and then walked way!
But on passing the next garage, I spotted a black S3, after stopping a checking it out, taking it for a test drive and then talking to the salesman I bought it!
2008 model (same as my golf), but with fewer miles (15k)
So my head is spinning now  so the golf is up for sale as of now!!!
Anyone know how much I should ask for it?
2008 '08' 5dr gti in C.W. got heated leather, ipod docking in center armrest, monza II, tinted rear windows (from factory), 20300 miles
Any ideas on price? Garage wanted to give me £13750
My head is still spinning dont know what to do next!

.
I'm happy for you to hear that you've fallen in love with a car and bought it, even if you are now like a dog chasing its tail . But what's wrong with 50k miles on a VW or Audi? They're quality German and built to last.
-
Yeah I agree it was good enough and felt just as tight as my 20k golf but just was not sure about going from my golf to an older and more mileage car so I just left it to think about it.
Stupid cars pulling you into showroom!!!! got no money now!!!

I was obsessing over 8P S3's last year, but personally I decided swapping to another 4-pot turbo that costs so much more than a GTI, was pretty pointless. :stupid:
I know it's a more premium marque, the AWD, blah blah, but I'd rather put my £££ into an ED30 than an S3.
Ignoring the fact I'd rather have an R32 than either a ED30, or S3...

How about a 5-pot turbo RS3?. It's the engine which make it so attractive...
