Hey all I'm after some info from your good self's :happy2: As most of you no I picked up a set of 19'' Bbs splits at the weekend which are going for a refurb in the next couple of weeks! I was in at my local tyre garage last night on the way home from work looking for a good deal on a set of tyre's Now I was told 235/35/19 would be the size I'd need! Currently I'm runing 225/40/18 Michelin Pilot Exhalto's which I find Great :happy2:
Here comes the fun part for 4 of them in 19'' It will cost me 830quid :surprised: with a friendly discount whereas they'd be 1147 without :scared:
So any other recomedations would be good bearing in mind the car has 320bhp goin through the front wheels :driver: I'm after a good tyre!
Thanks in advance

go with 225/35 ;)
-
Out of interest what are you going to do with the pescaras?
-
go with 225/35 ;)
Why, as that'll make your speedo inaccurate?

I know its not much help Toastie but i have just paid £ 760 odd for 4 PS2 in the size you want, that was 20 % off at costco.
Now it still felt like a kick in the knackers but as you say 19s are silly money. IMHO you need to bite the bullet and get those lovely wheels the best you can afford, as they wont look nice upside down in a ditch.
By the way these tyres were sorted for me by StevePG who as usual is always helping me and i owe him a beer. :drinking:

Should help you find the right size of tyre you after.

Toyo Proxes / Avon ZZ3 both good and cheap..
-
prefer the Toyos to the Avons, had a few quality issues with Avons
-
the Toyo T1r is a reasonable tyre too cost wise, comparable to the ps2's in the dry but skittish in the wet
-
I got toyo proxes t1r's for £80 a tyre on 18"s few months ago, cant be much more for 19"s :happy2:
dont last long tho

PS - This costco offer has now ended so they are back up at £240 per tyre :surprised: :surprised:
-
Ive told you get them tyres dressed ready for pick up, see the detailing section for best product. :signLOL:
-
you can buy mich ps2's for £226.35 delivered from http://www.blackcircles.com
-
235/35R19 in Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym's is what I run, last price was £140 per tyre although tyres have seem to gone up in price recently.
-
if you can still get them for that NEG, buy a load and stock pile them :happy2:
-
Probably not anymore - the 225/40's went up from 106 to 116 last week - something split the side wall on one of the recently replaced front tyres on the mk4 - grrrr!
-
I'd go for 235/35/19, keeos the rolling radius the same as the stock 18, im sure if you ask Shaun he can get a set at very good prices for Goodyear Asys ! :happy2:
The Michelins seem to wear out very quickly .
-
Hey all just back home From Snow Patrol Gig in Glasgow :jumpmove: They were Awesome :happy2:
Just had a read through all your helpfull comments :happy2: I've spoke to my mate who works in the parts dep at Toyota and he said he'l price me some tyre's in the morning he gets them cost then 10% discount so we shall see But I will check these other website's out too!! Damn these 19'' wheels :jumping: lol
And also I'm keeping my Pescara's for the moment use them in the winter but if I change my mind I'll let all interested party's no! :happy2:

The only reasons to run 225 section tyres on a 19" wheel would be for the stretch look (Not to my taste and ruins any handling characteristics) or if you have space issues in the arch (by running a different offset or spacers).
225 section tryes will reduce your rolling diameter, but not by enough to be noticeable. The tyres will probably be more expensive with the smaller 225 section as they aren't as common a fitment as the 235 section variant.
-
Thanks Hurdy good info :happy2:

I go for Goodyear Eagle F1 assymetrics everytime. Reasonable price, but superb grip and characteristics compared to other tyres.

All the people i asked about these 2 types of tyre have said the opposite the PS2 last a third longer. :surprised:

i have to agree....maybe it's a driving style thing?
my last set of ps2's lasted much longer than most of the other brands i've had and i live amoungst some very twisty roads to wear them. someone in milton keynes and its roundabouts will wear a certain tyre differently than say someone from wellingborough surrounded by duals and motorways
alot of factors come into play
-
My mates waiting on a price for the Mich's Ps2's :happy2: He did say they had Continental's in 235/35/19 in stock?!

go with 225/35 ;)
Why, as that'll make your speedo inaccurate?
if you plan to lower :) ,the 235 will rub ,as the 225 will not ,a friend has them ,and they rubed ,put the 225 and all is good :)
-
really.... (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.unity.i8i.co.uk%2Fforum%2Fimages%2Fsmiley_no.gif&hash=774afa463773888014ce96604cd9d57f2b5599e6)

That is a strange statement, Dario.
It completely depends on how low your friend has it and what the wheel spec is. :chicken:
Of course on your friends car that little bit extra angle on the tyre wall fixed his problem, but so would raising the coils a bit or putting a more friendly offset wheel on. :rolleye:

i agree, bit too much of a sweeping statement to say they will rub, i know alot of people running the 235 and are lowered without any issues fella, maybe your mate should check his setup?
-
one of those being myself... wheel offset is the key I expect
-
type of tyre too can make a difference even within the same supposed width ?
