Post by: Homer on February 28, 2011, 09:48:52 pm

at first yes, purely as you start driving like a loon due to the smile you get when you boot it.  However driven sensibly my mpg improved by 2-3mpg

Yes I think you'll find after a Stage 1 map, you will burn some more juice, purely given the addictive thrust of a Stg1 car.
Goodness only knows how many times I've had to take the long way home recently. Car was mapped in December.
My Ed30 with Autotech high flow fuel pump, Dbilas Induction kit and Milltek downpipe/catalyst with a stage 1 Revo map is just fab. Good fun too..

.
Surely you're not thinking of getting this mod to improve your mpg

Good luck with that! It ain't gonna significantly happen.

How long is a piece of string? It all depends how you drive it. If you are being frugal then it will return a 2-3 mpg gain over standard, start booting it around all over the place and you will see lower fuel economy than standard.

I'm not sure I noticed any change at all

Well my pieces of string measure 53cm , 60cm and 108cm.
My Bluefin allows me to use lower gears/rpm in and around town which helps my mpg around town a bit  ,elsewhere there is no change

.... x 2

Which probably means that we've got the balance right between cool cruisin' and enjoying ourselves on spirited driving. :happy2:

mine was definitely thirsty @ stage 2+ though.  struggled to get 30mpg on a good day lol

....Be careful not to let your piece of blue string lull you into lazy habits and use the torque too much. Torque kills.

...."on a good day" is the giveaway  - Seeing anything over 30 mpg makes me wonder if I'm having a good day. I think that 33 mpg is the most I have ever seen.

Had my stage 1 for around 18 months now and in all honesty if you drive normally then the cold weather makes more of an impact on mpg than the remap. Of course the difficulty comes in driving it 'normally' with the added power.
On my 25 mile commute with a mixture of up, down and flat roads I usually get around 30 mpg. If I try though I can it up to 37 on the same journey but I can never be arsed.

Standard to stage 1 mpg stayed the same for me, stage 3 gives superb motorway mpg @ 38mpg but around A and B roads fairly sensibly driven gives around 31mpg.

I got 38mpg once out of my 2+ ED30 and almost died of boredom. My usual is around 28 :happy2:

....I'm the same. It's the difference between enjoying driving and it almost being a chore  :happy2:. No wonder so many motorists don't enjoy their journeys just sat there in their caccoon negatively thinking about their mpg.

In defence of my 38mpg motorway figure I got this figure on the 150 mile trip home from getting the stage 3. Which was not a really slow trip averaging 80mph with some faster bits
My stage 2 map before this was much worse and only averaged 34mpg on the same run, it was running a bit rich though. Like I say A and B roads I average 31mpg lol.

FAO MARTZINIUK0 what is your horsepower mate now that you are up to stage three? And what other modifications have you had to make to reach this stage,ie brakes etc? Thanks

You're not thinking of going straight to Stage 3 are you, Homer?  :scared:

his stage 3 is the same level of tune as a REVO stage 2+ map.  it depends on what tuner it is as to what they call it.  for instance REVO stage 3 on the k03 TFSI requires new injectors, turbo etc etc.

yet shark performance and DNA etc call the HPFP tweaked map a stage 3. and for the turbo upgrades they call it stage 4.

iirc he has a decat downpipe, BSH intake (think he might have removed it) and autotech HPFP internals.

normal figures allowing for dyno lottery etc are stage 1 240hp-, stage 2 260Hp, stage 2+(stage 3) 270-280hp.  Obvioulsy some dynos will easily read huge amounts more but make of that what you want.

if you after going straight to stage 2 or 2+ all you need is a downpipe with sports cat or decat, and an uprated HPFP.  ideally though you would want an intake and intercooler as well to make the most of the map

I've got no idea on the bhp front yet, I have my name on the reserves at the May Rs tuning RR day so will see then.
Like sy says just a 3" decat and hpfp but I have a BSH intake for the RR day lol.
