cheers  :happy2: i think the main one is the stance, for a decent stance the best way to go is coilovers, then just wind them right down  also the two cars you have given as examples both have bbs wheels with red centers, i think these are the first things to be doing, then you will be on the slippy slope

oh and welcome  :happy2:

choose your wheels before you choose your stance then you wont be restricted by size, unless you get adjustables

most cars can be transformed from standard with just the right wheel and drop

all good advice  :happy2:
Mark M's car looks great because it has 19's  (so much better than ed30 18's which tend to look small and fall into the arches) and dropped.
[edit : Jays right they are 18's!  does have spacers though and parada tyres which have beefy sidewalls ]

rear wiper delete really tidies the mk5 rear end too

Joes is different again, its 18's but an even bigger drop , R32 rear  , no front number plate (!) conspire to make it even fatter and lower.

see also Greenouses spacer thread where just filling the arches makes a very subtle but noticeable difference!

Visually they both give the same 'look' , which seems to balance some aspects of the mk5 shape.  :happy2:

they are ed30 alloys i think. just the drop/colour/tyreshine makes them look bigger! ;)

THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP. AM LOOKING AT MY -oops caps!!
first gti to buy for ten plus years and have never modded a car before so most of the jargon and technology is alien to me.
but i,m a quick learner and i love what i see.
luckily  i,ll have very few spare green to spend for a while as i,m crucifying myself for next 2 months to get this car if it comes off.will be living off cans of tuna and baked beans i think for next 8 weeks!

but i wanna change the wheels i think to ed30s and the stance 'oh and the grill and its already got xenons.
and even if i dont add valence then i,ll be very tempted to get the bumpers sprayed up to match.

is there a thread on coilovers?

fanx again guys any more info or threads pointed at please feel free!

is it just his bbs and the red "splitter" at front that sets it apart for me or without insulting him what else dont i know that he has done visually.i,m sure the stance is different too. has he lowered it?

Greenouse has lowered it with just springs, and he has got 10mm spacers on the rear. So that is why his car appears to have the stance that you speak of

I like how your new car has the ED30 steering wheel, very nice touch!

Congrats on the purchase  :happy2:

....

Welcome to the forum, matsu (I think I 'know' you from another forum).

If you get coilovers (not a cheap option) I'm advised by people who know, that you should never wind them right down to the max bottom as Joe suggests (if I've understood him right).

Cheers Matsu  :happy2:

Your car looks very well specced from the off! Hang around here and you'll soon learn all you need to know. See The Wheelman on here for spacers if that's the look your after. I have 10mm front and rear  :happy2:

yeah ive been looking for "this" car for a while and hated getting rid of my mk2 10yrs ago ish and vowed to return to the gti fold one day.
once i stared looking i jsut didnt like anyhting else for similar money or spec and once test driven it was game over! :fighting:

greenhouse , thanks for the heads up, i will search a few more threads and prob go with spacers first.then who knows!

i gotta lot to learn, i love cars but know very little about them under the skin but plan on starting NOW!. even talked about me and my 15yr old buying  a mk1 and restoring for him to drive in 2-3 yrs time.

i doubt i,ll be able to contribute much here but i,ll be reading up shed loads

Thanks for that. Looks a huge improvement but am concerned over the experience of bacillus and animal. I can do stupid things when it comes to corners and rolling over isn't something I want to experience!
