Title: Is there an efficient VW that also offers decent horsepower?
Post by: Homer on March 02, 2011, 11:26:57 pm
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows of any VW cars, ideally Passat models that are not only efficient but also have a decent horsepower? Thanks for any input

I like this thought  Failing that, the 1.4 TSI is very good indeed  :happy2:

1.4TSI are ok, but i found the 170 to be gutless.

Is the 1.4TSI good in a passat? not driven one but I would have thought a bit under on the torque front?  my thought would have been a diesel they do bluemotion 2.0TDI 140's with manual boxes if you dont want the full bluemotion models even in a Rocco guess that gets you stop start tech and longer gear ratios (dont know that for sure but my guess)

What about a 2.7 TDI A4 that would be quick and still return good mpg on a 70 run?

Its a smaller displacement of the TSI engine, not the 20v turbo type you can also get it with the 7 speed dry clutch DSG well in Audi's you can as the torque is low enough, saves you couple of kilos extra gear and closer ratios can be a bit more efficient and help with pace.

Good suggestion... the 3.0TDI lump is fantastic, bags and bags of torque, and relatively quiet too.

That sounds brill for a smoker. I was looking at those when I was car shopping last year, but that magic combo of the right price, colour and spec never materialised.  :sad1:

the 1.8TFSI engine is 40+mpg easily and around 170hp iirc.
