Picking it up at 5:15 today, 55 plate, black 5 doors 17" Monza's and only 40K on the clock!
Going to get the alloys painted Gloss Black, get the windows tinted then put my theloudest.com amp and speakers in (yes on the parcel shelf which I will have to make myself as there is no where else to put them!) and replace the CD changer in the arm rest with an Ipod Dock!
and that is all for now, maybe some Xenons!
-
good times :pomppomp:
cant say as i'm a fan of "look through the window and steal me" speakers on the shelf though dude, but etto :happy2:

I know, I cant think of anywhere else that is strong enough to hold them though, and it's why I would like tints. I have them in my current car (05 Polo 1.4TDI, stage 1 revo remap) and you can hardly see them.
They are really heavy and the only thing I can think of is what I have previously done with making my own parcel shelf with a bit of MDF and cover it in carpet etc!
I can't not have them, the Amp is 3000w and I have two 6x9 2000w Speakers too, the sound that comes out of them is just unreal!
-
you could always uprate the speakers in the doors? just a thought
unless of course you flush mount to the shelf so they are sunken and hidden with audio carpet?

Yeah I could but I absoloutely love the amp and speakers
That's a good idea actually, I will look into doing that and see how it will look! It's a pain having them there but I think that having 70% tints at the back covers it really well, well it did in my polo!
Just so excited to get the car, I've had to wait a few days longer than planned due to VW not having the coils in stock (SHOCK!).
-
Enjoy, you really will :pomppomp: :pomppomp:

i dont blame you, the standard set up in the golf is shocking!
it was the first big mod i did to my ride getting a decent audio system installed, everything else wasnt so urgent and could get done over time

I know, the plan is obviously to put my speakers in with an Ipod Dock in the arm rest then to get a new HU! Need to find the money though!
This day is going so slowly..... :sad1:

i bet dude, its gunna proper drag!

Yeah when I first got mine I was looking for any excuse/reason to drive

In terms of upgrading the door speakers, what size speakers are in there as I was thinking about doing this...also anyone got any good recommendations as to replacements?
-
i can strongly recommend the focals :happy2:
this is what i have:
The front speakers were replaced with these:
with some speaker rings:

the rears for these:
Focal Polyglass V1's
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMy_R32%2FCandy%2FImage1.jpg&hash=d7fd0d220460f4f773771788c6fd01d46b76fecd)
the speakers are all factory riveted in so you need to drill them out, easy process though

Nice, how much did they set you back if you don't mind me asking? Did you change the tweeters as well? Also what are the speaker rings for? Are the speakers too small for the original holes?
-
a few hundred all in, the rings are to space the speakers out a little and give them room, they all sit flush and hide away once the door card is back on :happy2:
I did all the speakers, front rear and tweeters :happy2:
also added a sub in the boot too whilst i was at it:
and amp:

to achieve this:

and sounds like this:
... to save spamming this thread anymore, full details of the install are on my build thread :happy2:

I've been a busy boy this weekend! Put the first full tank in so see how that goes!
Got a couple problems though but taking it to my local VAG specialist today to see what they say.
When I start the car up, it sounds a bit like a high pitch turning noise, car starts fine etc though!
The lever to open the bonnet isnt working now and my brakes squeek everytime my foot is on the breaks!
The ignition problem wasnt there until VW replaced the coils and the bonnet worked before then too (not blaming it on them though, could be anything!)
-
That high pitch turning noise will be the cam belt tensioner,(goes away once warmed up)
Will require a new cam belt same time, and depending on what type of water pump it has, might be worth paying the extra (more so on earlier GTi's) get that changed too, then your good for another 4 years non major maintenance .

Thanks for that Steve, will mention it today when I take it in!
