This might seem a silly question from someone old enough to know better but:
Having recently kerbed my wheels I'm thinking of swapping the 225 35 19 tyres for some used (I only use the car on a non regular basis so cover a very low mileage) 235 35 19s.
Having scoured ebay many tiyres in that size say they are Porsche spec N1, so does this mean they have a special compound and aren't suitable for Golfs?

I could be wrong but if they are good enough for Porsche!!!
The only problem could be insurance as if they are marked up 'Porsche Only' it might be a problem.
Although saying that if you can prove they exceed the VW spec then no problem, maybe?

The tyres are listed differently on Camskill etc as being Porsche spec so wondered if the tread and compound may be a Porsche (RWD or AWD) specific grade.
as long as they are Z rated you'll be fine :smiley:

Should be fine :happy2: its just the other way round, non n rated tyres on porsche, can effect your porsche warranty even insurance. Rwd mid/rear engine cars are more susceptible to altercations arising from using different tyre types than fwd, but still when buying 2nd hand make sure you try and get a pair as different thread depths and wear patterns might cause you problems

Porsche spec (N0 - N4) are/have:
- better quality/'roundness'
- better steering feel
- better dry grip
- less wet grip
- less ride comfort
- different construction *
* depends on manufacturer:
e.g. Michelin PS N0 looks like PS2, but has PS (1) belt construction.
More details please !! Which brand ??

I'm currently on 225 35 19s so it shouldn't be much worse in the ride quality stakes. There's not much sidewall to take the bumps on the 225s for sure. Thankfully I'm on standard suspension so ride quality isn't too horrendous!

I thought I'd do a quick thread update.
Ended up buying a set of slightly used 235 35 19'' Conti 3s off another forum last weekend, got them fitted and a couple of wheels refurbished at the same time during the week.
So thanks for all the advice, much appreciated and I learned all about Porsche tyre specs to boot! Ta :happy2:
Watch out for a set of 225 35 19 FK452s hitting the for sale section soon (or maybe I'll just ebay them? Never sold tyres on their own before so don't have a clue about couriers for them - time for another thread on that subject?) :signLOL:
